I do, very well.

Each round of competition, once a team has lost they are eliminated.  Just so happens our rounds are decided by a best of three series.

So in your mind a tennis tournament can only have one game to be considered single elimination?  lolol..

Game-SET-MATCH!

World Championship has always been ran at the end of the season. This will have no impact on the WC.

This is being offered because I'm actually staying around the house this Christmas and want something to do with NHL 14. We will see what kind of response we get and move on from there.

If they were double elimination the teams would still be alive after losing a series.

Not that wikipedia is authoritative, but it states that "Of the big four American sports leagues, only the National Football League uses [a single-elimination tournament] for its postseason."

Who needs to hit the books?

There is a difference between a single-elimination tournament, and a best-of-series tournament. What you are describing is a best-of-series tournament.

That wiki entry is stupid.

MLB, Hockey, Tennis and others use a "BEST OF" format to determine the winner of a round. Single Elimination means that once you lose a round you are out of the tournament. But thanks, you may have just motivated me to participate in my first wikipedia entry.

Show me a source besides your say-so that states that the NBA, NHL, and/or NBA use single-elimination tournaments to decide their postseason.

You need a source?  How about this one?

Lets agree to disagree then. Moving on.

I just love VGHL staffers. None of them seem to have ever made a mistake. And even if they have, they certainly have never admitted to it.

Not that Wikipedia is authoritative...

In a single-elimination tournament, only the top-ranked competitors in a fixture progress; in 2-competitor games, only the winner progresses. All other competitors are eliminated. This ensures a winner is decided with the minimum number of fixtures. However, most competitors will be eliminated after relatively few matches; a single bad or unlucky performance can nullify many preceding excellent ones. Some single-elimination tournaments such as NBA use a multiple-game format, in which teams would play each other more than one game (e.g. best-of-seven series in NBA) in order to determine who is the winner of this round. Other knockout formats provide a "second chance" for some or all losers.

Odd, there's not a single source cited in that article. You guys are goofs.

Maybe in Canada they define the word "single" differently than in the States.

From that wiki page anason:

American professional team sports have a "regular season" (group tournament) acting as qualification for the "post season" or "playoffs" (single-elimination tournament)

Do you know what Wikipedia is?  why this page would say one thing ( American professional team sports)  and the stupid one you pasted (only NFL) says something else?

Under your definition tennis or volleyball can NEVER have a single or double elimination tournament, yet every major tournament in their sports are considered as such. its common sense.  but, you did read it on wiki, so ...
