NHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK- WEEK 3

Forward:
Week 3's forward of the week is GET_ON_UR_KNEES. He shredded the league last week, putting up 36 points (21 g, 15 a). He currently leads the league in goals and points. On top of putting the puck in the net every night, Knees also only took 2 penalties all week. He only has 14:00PIMS all season. Another thing worth noting is Knees has put up at least 1 point in every single game this season. He is actually going above and beyond in the majority of the games, averaging 3.71 points/game. Very easy to see why the defending champs are still the favorites.

Defense
While there were a few candidates for dman this week, DONUT-DOUG gets the nod. Playing in 7 games this week, all wins, Doug put up 2 goals and 10 assists. Doug has been a rock for Minnesota at LD all season. He added 30 hits to his weekly stats, currently 4th in the NHL on the season. A highlight of the week was his extraordinary play vs Anaheim and L.A., shutting out both West coast teams (2-0).

Goalie
MikeFleury29 is this weeks goalie of the week. He was 4-2 on the week, which is modest, but let breakdown his week... Sunday he faced two very tough teams in the Devils and Lightning. He went 2-0 allowing a goal in each game. Monday, another tough night. Top teams Washington and Florida. 1-0 loss to Wash and a 2-1 win vs the Panthers. Wed. Mike came out in game 1 and shutout Buffalo, 1-0. So through those 5 games, Mikes stats were 4-1, .940 sv%, and a GAA under 1. Outstanding. He couldnt seem to get the wins verse the Capitals though. His only 2 losses were both to them by 1 goal each. MikeFleury is still climbing the leaderboards. He is currently a top 10 goalie, statwise.

AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK- WEEK 3

By: xstcopleyx

Forward:
Maze_z8 of the Albany Devils is this weeks forward of the week.  He posted up an outstanding 15 goals and 11 assists in only 8 games to help solidify Albany’s current 5th seed.  He does this while dominating in the faceoff circle with 56% to put him as the true number 1 offensive player on the team.  He helped albany get 12 points this week going 5-2-1.

Defense:
D man of the week goes to X-silverthorn-X with 7 points in 4 games and a +/- of 4.  In this time he showed great discipline as well only taking 2 pims while putting up 24 hits.  His team may have only gone 4-3-1 this week, however his stability on defense gives them something to build around

Goalie:
Your_anis posted up a .889 save percentage with 1 shutout this week, while keeping his GAA at the lowly number of 1.5.  This put him at 4-0 on the week with his outstanding play.  He helped his team in Norfolk have an outstanding breakout week for them going 8-0-0.  This week may have won him the continued starting job for the Admirals.

PHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK-WEEK 3
By:PudgeyMoose

Forward:
ScottyBoy55 8gp / 19 G / 21 A / 40pts / +18 / 5ppg

Simply a NO BRAINER for this category! ScottyBoy was unstoppable this week to kick off the PHL season. Although the Winterhawks lost 2 games that shocked them, Scotty recovered with no struggle to put up ridiculous numbers to finish off a solid team week for Portland. This guy no matter the situation, can get the job done one way or another, therefore, i would like to name the PHL Forward of the Week!

Runner-Up:  iTzzDuubie 4gp / 13 G / 9 A / 22pts / +14

Duubie started the week with 3pts in 2gms and finished the week off with a big turnaround, helping Portland take 2 blowout wins 14-5 and 8-1 and finishing with 22pts in 4gms, an all-around successful week when he was needed most.

Honorable Mention: SIR-_SMOKE-_ELOT 7gp / 11 G / 11 A / 3.1ppg / +8

Defenseman:
Dante_Luc / cheapieeezzzz

Cant pick just one! On the same team , These 2 Guys might’ve not appeared on the Stat cheat very often, but are by far the 2 best defensive-playing defensemen in this first week! Dante with 6gp and 2pts, has an outstanding +/- of +10, and not ONE penalty taken! cheapieeezzzz with 5gp and 3pts, holds an outstanding +/- of +13, and just 2 minors taken. Overall, these 2 D-Men deserve the most recognition after the reputation they exemplified for themselves the first week played. Both show great discipline, great teamwork, and obviously great results as Lethbridge stands in 1st place in the PHL after 8 games.

Runner-Up:  Qw3rty9401 8gp / 1 G / 16 A / 17pts / +18

As Owner of the Portland Winterhawks, Qw3rty was a main aspect to the Hawks success in Week 1 of the season. Any D-man who pieced a team together like Qw3rty did and averages 2.1ppg playing EVERY game in the week, without a doubt deserves the most recognition. Definitely going to be a huge defensive threat for teams in the PHL throughout the season! But here’s the question.. Will Qw3rty still be this dynamic when he loses Scotty,Duubie, jdheagle, etc ? That’s something to think about for the future.

Honorable Mention: ARROWFLINGER777 6gp / 3 G / 8 A / 11pts / +8

Goalie:
xl0l_Hiller_l1lx 5gp / 4-1 / 2.66 / .770 sv%

Hiller was a big name in Week 1 between the pipes. With the Bulls standing at 5-3 after 8 games, Hiller picked up 4 of those wins, 2 including the Rangers and the 6-1-1 Storm! This goalie should be a big name in the AHL when he gets his 5 remaining games needed. I predict him top 5 when he gets signed by a team. He is a potential top 82 game NHL goalie in the future in my opinion, so eyes open everyone!

Runner-Up:  zimDman 4gp / 1-3 / 2.98 / .827 sv%

Although he holds a 1-3 record , his play between the pipes this week were stellar. He held 2 potential top teams in Kitchener and Guelph to 1 point games, losing both in OT with a score of 4-3. He picked up his lone win with a 5-1 win against another solid East team, the Belleville Bulls. As his stats show, the 5-1 win was the only time that the score wasnt close from HIS play.

INTERVIEW WITH A SOBO
Interview:MikeFluery
Picture:Dalton
Special Thanks:Sobolioni

I took some time to talk to Mike Sobo (sobolioni), the rookie co-GM of the Washington Capitals (with his brother sobo18), about their road to going from AHL captain in Season 8 to NHL owner in Season 9 and the first two weeks of his rookie campaign.

Fleury: Thank you for taking some time to talk to me. Why don't you start by tell us about your journey from AHL to NHL owner.

Sobo: "For my brother(sobo18) and I, we've travelled a very similar road. This will be our 5th season in the VGHL and we've been fortunate enough to stay together for 4 out of the 5 seasons.

After a sub-par AHL season 7 where we were split up we knew there was only one way to be successful; Staying together.

So we applied about running an AHL team. Wasn't all but a day or two after we posted that Peerless had approached us with an opportunity with the Grand Rapids Griffins. (They were) an AHL Team that had a history of solid Leadership. We hoped to continue that success.

We had a strong outing last season. Had a great relationship with those guys and wouldn't have done it with anyone else. Even if I could do it all over again. I'd like to thank Peerless for the opportunity. He is an asset to this league and a great resource.

This offseason, we were approached by VGHL Mngt and asked if we were interested in a squad. Couldn't pass it up. So we accepted and here we are. Excited to get this opportunity with the "Big Boys"."

Fleury: This off-season you were given an NHL team and went through bidding with NHL talent and cap space. What was the adjustment period like?

Sobo: "It's funny you ask about the cap. The entire time we were bidding, I was thinking in percentages and breaking it down like I was in the AHL again. Cutting them in half to keep the same thought process I had for the prior season. When it comes to the talent, yes there is some guys out there we should've resigned or kept bidding on. But the fact is, I really wanted to go players I knew and know our expectations. Players I've also played against during the AHL Season 8. Wanted to go into the start of the season feeling comfortable. Not having to worry about making multiple moves. I think we accomplished it.

Fleury: Did your pre-season preparation change between AHL and NHL?

Sobo: "Not really. Only difference was that we asked around about players a little more than usual. We also did our research on returning NHL players for certain positions. Pretty much just rolled with the punches."

Fleury: You've had two weeks in the NHL under your belt and the first question is; What is the major difference between the AHL and NHL?

Sobo: "The team play. You can tell that some of these teams have been together for a few seasons, maybe more. Better puck movement, better passes and better puck possession.

Goaltending can also steal you games. Didn't lose to a great goalie performance often at the AHL level.

On the other hand, there's a lot of NHL players who went idle. Which means there's a lot of players that played in the AHL last season up here. I can't speculate on that. I don't know what the talent was like at the NHL level until now. I can't imagine it is much better than the top 4-6 teams from the AHL last season. There were a few very tight teams. Same teams that happen to achieve NHL Ownership this season. Congrats to the new owners."

Fleury: What is the biggest lesson you've learned so far that you can apply to future weeks or seasons?

Sobo: "We've learned a lot thus far. This being our first NHL Entry Draft and NHL Bidding Period, that was the biggest experience yet. We saw where we did well and where we could've done something different. Otherwise, it's been smooth. I have a great leadership team in the AHL with Glieden and twoATRfour. They are great communicators and leaders. The Hershey Bears are off to a really good start! These 2 accepting our offer definitely made our start a lot easier without having to manage the minors. A choice we made that has already paid huge dividends with their abilities to run a team."

I'd like to thank you Sobo for his time and wish the Capitals luck for the rest of the season.

NHL POWER RANKINGS- WEEK 4
By: Mesmerize and MikeFluery

EASTERN CONFERENCE

1. Toronto Maple Leafs - This Week 6-1-1 Last Week 6-2-0

The Maple Leafs are still doing good for the 3rd week, They currently
have a 10pt lead over the division. Their only loss in regulation
coming from the Washington Capitals who have been doing really good
lately, This team is getting consistent play from Rich2k8 and Dasnipa,
Having Dydy on D also helps, DK_Kassicus was solid this week going
6-1-1 with 2.35 GAA .806%

TEAM MVP: Rich2k8 GP: 8 G: 11 A: 10 PTS: 21 +18
Next Week Prediction: 4-0

 2. Washington Capitals - This week 6-2 Last Week 7-1

Capitals keep up their good play for the 2nd consecutive week going
6-2, Beating a good Toronto team 5-3, Winning a close game 1-0 against
the Islanders, They are currently tied in the division with Florida,
Washington keeps proving everyone wrong, They are getting good play as
a team, They had 3 different starting goalies this week, Chitownmobstr,
Sobo, Nyisles, They stepped up when needed to when there was no other
option in net.

TEAM MVP: LayDownFool61 GP: 8 G: 9 A: 8 PTS: 17 H: 62
Next Week Prediction: 3-1

3. Philadelphia Flyers - This Week 4-4 Last Week 5-3

The Flyers dont have a much better week, Despite that they still have
the division lead, I rank them 3rd because i expect them to bounce back
and remain one of the top teams in the league, They played 3 OT games
this week, Coming away with 2 wins losing one to Ottawa 3-4, Also won a
close game 1-0 against Ottawa later in the week, They lose a key game
against the Penguins who are trying to catch up to them for the
division lead. VanillaGorilla seemed to have a rough week going 4-3
with 3.17 GAA .694%

TEAM MVP: SnipeShow_21 GP: 6 G: 7 A: 8 PTS: 15
Next Week Prediction: 3-1

4. Florida Panthers - This Week 6-2 Last Week 3-5

Panthers have a much better week going 6-2, They are currently tied
for the division with the Capitals, Florida starts the week off with a
3-1 win over division rival Tampa Bay, They lose a close game to a good
Toronto team 3-2, It seems their Goalies have found their groove,
Roosta 4-1 with 2.61 GAA .809% Deadlynasty stepped up when needed going
2-1 with 1.34 GAA .867%, The goalie seems to be the strong point of the
Panthers, Which wasnt the case last season.

TEAM MVP: Coorsi88 GP: 6 G: 9 A: 10 PTS: 19
Next Week Prediction: 3-1

5. Pittsburgh Penguins - This Week 4-4 Last Week 5-3

Penguins pretty much have the same kind of week as the last, They get
a key win over the Flyers to help them gain ground on the division,
They acquire CCPiper in a trade, He is a great LW who will bring some
good two way style hockey that this Penguins team likes to play,
BMIDG2121 having a rough week in net going 3-3 with 3.11 GAA .712%, He
is a veteran goalie in this league i will expect him to put up better
numbers next week.

TEAM MVP: CCPiper GP: 6 G: 11 A: 5 PTS: 16
Next Week Prediction 2-2

6. New York Islanders - This Week 4-3-1 Last Week 3-3-2

Islanders seem to be improving slowly each week, This week they had 5
games decided by 1 goal, Losing a game to the capitols 1-0 in OT,
Islanders also win a tight game against buffalo 1-0 in OT, The offense
seems to be struggling at times to put up any goals, This team relies
on defense and goaltending, If they can find someway to score more
goals, This team will be alot better in the coming weeks, MikeFleury
going 4-2 with 1.33 GAA and a great .897%

TEAM MVP: MikeFleury GP:6 W: 4 GAA: 1.33 SAVE: .897%o
Next Week Prediction: 2-2

7. Tampa Bay - This Week 2-6 Last Week 5-1-2

Tampa Bay takes a huge step back from the previous 2 weeks, Most of
these losses are decided by 1 goal, They could have came away with a
few more wins, Tampa Bay struggled to score any goals this week, I
expect this team to move on and start getting some wins, Every team has
struggles throughout a season, Vito played solid the 3 games he was in
net, Going 2-1 with 1.67 GAA .808%, Djones scored his 1st goal of the
season, Encelidus-Strike goes the whole week without scoring 1 goal.

TEAM MVP: None
Next Week Prediction: 2-2

8. Buffalo Sabres - This week 5-1-2 Last Week 4-3-1

The Sabres improve this week getting some wins and staying in the
race
for the division, They lose 2 games in OT, A very close game in a 1-0
OTL to the Islanders. They beat a hott Washington team aswell , They
are getting better little by little each week, When they have their
starting 6 they are a good team, Murloc is solid in net this week,
Going 5-1 with 2.16 GAA .812%

TEAM MVP: Laplante94 GP: 6 G: 9 A: 7 PTS: 16
Next Week Prediction: 2-2

9. New Jersey Devils - This Week 4-4 Last Week 2-5-1

The Devils improve from last week getting a couple more wins, They
had
a hot start to the season, Now they are probably right where they
should be, The goaltending on the team is mediocre and its starting to
show, New Jersey was scoring goals after the 1st week, They lost some
close games this week, They acquire Bigyan through bidding after being
bought out by STL, Checkmate is hoping Bigyan can bring some much
needed goal scoring to this team

TEAM MVP: MAK-10TEN GP: 8 G: 8 A: 7 PTS: 15
Next week prediction: 3-1

10. Boston Bruins - This Week 3-4-1 Last Week 5-2-1

Boston have a let down week, This team was picked to be one of the
top
teams, Boston is a weird team, Some games they are really good, Then
the next they are really bad, Seems they are in high scoring games,
Could either be issues with goaltending or there isnt much team defense
going on, Ovie and Greek can score goals, But in order to win you have
to play defense, They ended the week with 2 wins, I would expect them
to get back on track and start winning again.

TEAM MVP: Greekelite GP: 8 G: 12 A: 7 PTS: 19
Next Week Prediction: 1-3

11. Ottawa Senators - This Week 2-6 Last Week 5-3

Ottawa gets worse this week going 2-6, This team looks great on
paper,
I am not sure why they cant string some wins together, XxDRSWAGGERxX
goes 1-3 with 3.48 GAA .763%, The save percentage is not bad for the
record and shots against which is 59, Seems like Ottawa needs to get
back to playing team defense, It is still early, Im sure they will
start coming together soon.

TEAM MVP: Jay6219 GP: 7 G: 7 A: 6 PTS: 13

12. Winnipeg Jets - This Week 0-7 Last Week 1-6-1

There is no surprise here that the Jets are 12th, They have yet to
show any sign of improvement, There is a lack of goals being scored,
Seems to be no team defense found anywhere, TIAD goes 0-5  with 3.00
GAA .769%, All the forwards on this team are barely over 1ppg, I think
CastroGStar is a solid center, He has no help around him. Hopefully newly acquired players couture and guilbalt can get something going soon, Otherwise its going to be along
season for Winnipeg again.

TEAM MVP: None
Next Week Prediction: 0-4

WESTERN CONFERENCE

DALLAS STARS
Last Week (1) -- This Week (1)

The Stars continued their domination of the Western Conference going 8-1-0 this week (they played a resched, I counted it, deal with it). They boast the week's top two scorers in GET_ON_UR_KNEES who had 36 points (21 goals, 15 assists) and ReJecTz_ReaPeRz with 29 points on 16 goals and 13 assists. Defencemen MY-GLOVE-ULL-LUV led defencemen with 15 points and a +22 rating. And captain Danger-Rally was unsurprisingly a top two goalie (among starters) in save percentage with .857 over his seven games of action. They received contributions from pretty much everyone in the lineup.

Team MVP - GET_ON_UR_KNEES (21 goals, 15 assists, 36 points in 9 games)
Next Week Prediction: 4-0

MINNESOTA WILD
Last Week (4) -- This Week (2)

The Wild went 7-0 this week during what has become an 11 game win streak that has seen them shoot up the standings. Leading the scoring has been three_eleven07, former assistant captain in LA for Season 7, with 16 point in 6 games (2.67ppg) and 4 game winning goals in what has been a fairly balanced offence. ChiTownMenace had 14 points in his 5 games of action, while D-man Donut-Doug has been a +7 with 12 points in 7 games. In net Chrono526 has been solid going 5-0 with a 1.60 goals against and an .800 save percentage.

Team MVP - Chrono526 (5-0  1.60 GAA .800 SV%)
Next Week Prediction: 2-2

DETROIT RED WINGS
Last Week (3) -- This Week (3)

The Peerless- led Red wings had a bit of a rough week going 4-3-1 with losses to Minnesota, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and the Stars. Their offence had an okay week averaging 2.87 goals per game but it was their defence that failed them allowing 27 goals in eight games for 3.375 per game. Peerless had a decent week making it into the top 20 in scoring with 16 points in 8 games while A-GM Hardik88 had 12 points on the blue line but was a -2. Meenwhile, Skillszy had 13 points in his four games of action. Goaltending duo MYLEFTNUTTT and Nevernavok had an off week, Never managed only a .700 save percentage in his five games while MLN was sub .650% in his two games.

Team MVP - Skillszy (5 goals, 8 assists, 13 points in 4 games for 3.25ppg)
Next Week Prediction: 2-2

EDMONTON OILERS
Last Week (6) -- This Week (4)

The Oilers had a big week with wins over Dallas, Anaheim, Phoenix, and Chicago, This, in large part, was due to their goalie DiirtyDangles who posted an .844 save percentage for the week allowing only 2 goals against per game. Meanwhile, YoUU-MaDD)Br0o finished ninth in league points with 18 (including 10 goals) in just six games. They will need better performance from their backup goalies, especially Coldstuff47 who was 1-1 but had just a .471 save percentage,

Team MVP - DiirtyDangles (4-2  2.00 GAA .844 SV%)
Next Week Prediction: 2-2

ANAHEIM DUCKS
Last Week (2) -- This Week (5)

While not an awful week, the Ducks had losses to Phoenix, Chicago, Edmonton, Calgary, and Minnesota in a stretch that saw them go 3-3-2. Mcleve913 and star forward RiseOfTheNinja were very quiet this week combining for only 11 goals and 28 points. Ninja had 3 goals and 12 assists while Mcleve ended the week with just 8 goals and 5 assists. Crusty_Bojangles was a -6 for the week. Menwhile, goaltending was a bit of an issue in Anaheim with Ahl_Allstar-3 having just a .750 save percentage allowing 2.62 goals per game, though backup SteelCityFan17 was fairly good with a .783% and 2.35 goals against.

Team MVP - SteelCityFan17  (4 points and +3 on defence in 4 games; 0-2  2.35 GAA .783 SV%
Next Week Prediction: 3-1

PHOENIX COYOTES
Last Week (5) -- This Week (6)

A good week in the surging Phoenix Coyote camp this week after a rough start, though wins over St. Louis and Vancouver helped mightily, they finished 5-2-1 with an OTL vs. Dallas. Recent call-up oticz had been very good for the team. His 14 goals and 19 points in 7 games paved the way for the team to pull their way up the standings. Their drop in Power Rankings only due to losses to Edmonton and Anaheim, two teams above them. On D, Dizzy003 was a +4 with 2 assists in his 2 games of work while in goal PNCPark had just a .690 save percentage allowing 2.87 goals per game.

Team MVP - oticz (14 goals, 5 assists, 19 points)
Next Week Prediction: 1-3

CALGARY FLAMES
Last Week (7) -- This Week (7)

A good week for this team despite playing without starting goalie Penguins2013 for the week. Lordalex999 was more than capable in his duties though making saves on 79.8% of his shots faced allowing only 2.50 per game. Perhaps not enough to win the starting job but enough to keep the Flames in a good spot until their team is back together. F0R3IGN_0BJ3KT was a solid +6 with 6 points on the blue line while usermike4948 and DIGLER069 had 10 points apiece.

Team MVP - F0R3IGN_0BJ3KT (8gp, +6 with 6 points)
Next Week Prediction: 1-3

CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Last Week (10) -- This Week (8)

Chicago's rise and 4-4 record this week are surprising considering their obvious weaknesses in goal. Starting goalie moon_doe was the worst goalie this week among starting goalies (4+ games) having a porous 4.60 goals against with a .623 save percentage. Still, they managed wins against Anaheim, Calgary and beat up on the Blues and Canucks to salvage their week. Still, any week where you have two games allowing 8 goals and another allowing 6, you're lucky to come out at .500. A birghtspot was Linde94 who had 16 points in 8 games.

Team MVP - Linde94 (8 goals, 8 assists, 16 points)
Nex Week Prediction: 2-2

LOS ANGELES KINGS
Last Week (11) -- This Week (9)

The Kings went 3-5 but move up thanks to the Jackets and Blues. Their offense was incredibly streaky scoring 21 of their 25 goals in just 4 of their games. XILO_ATOMIC was great this week with 6 goals and 11 assists for 3.4ppg while RockinRobbie added 9 in 4 games and DD_Decimation was a +3,

Team MVP - XILO_ATOMIC (6 goals, 11 assists, 17 points)
Next Week Prediction: 1-3

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Last Week (8) -- This Week (10)

Having lost 8.5 million dollar signing Hail_2TheVictors the team has gone goalie-by-committee, and that committee was a bit soft. The Jackets went just 2-5-1 allowing 34 goals in 8 games. Though, to be fair, Elyndil was okay in his two games having a save percentage of .771. He allowed 4 goals per game but faced a ridiculous 17.5 shots per game...  XxMadmax94xX was an offensive catalyst for the team scoring 5 goals and having 8 points in 4 games while swiftdefeat had 10 points but was a -7.

Team MVP - XxMadmax94xX (5 goals, 3 assists, 8 points in 4 GP)
Next Week Predicition: 1-3

ST. LOUIS BLUES
Last Week (9) -- This Week (11)

This team has fallen off the planet going 1-5 with a couple resched's following what can only be described as a massive exodus in the Blues organization. There isn't much good to say for this team, and weeks ahead don't look very good either.

Team MVP - GAYPHISH (traded CCPiper, bought out BigYan_ and GoodFella146)
*NOTE* Voting according to Calgary, Pittsburgh, and New Jersey
Next Week Prediction: 0-4

VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Last Week (12) -- This Week (12)

In the midst of a rebuilding year, they are the only thing standing between the Blues and the bottom spot. Having just one win in their season (against St. Louis... hm) this team has a long season ahead. Not sure what their plans are but I expect to see them trade for draft picks or have their AHL team sign big name PHLers to ELC for next season. Until then, bleak times in Van-city.

Team MVP - Acrobatic_beast (14.6 shots against per game; no rage-quits to my knowledge)
Next Week Prediction: 1-3

NHL GAMES OF THE WEEK - WEEK 4
By:Lemieux_Polamalu

Since its a short week I thought I would keep four games of the week by breaking it up into 9:30 and 10:15 games of the week Wed and Thursday. Viperman had to take the week off, so I am filling in to help the team. I hope you enjoy and this helps get you pumped up for Week 4 in the VGHL S9.

Wednesday, May 21st 9:30

Washington Capitals VS Anaheim Ducks
Washington is hot going into week 4. The Capitals are 8—2 the last 10 games and leading the Southeast Division. They are involved in a three way tie for number 2 in the Eastern Conference. ChitownMobstr is solid in net for Washington, and their tight defensive system is giving the league fits. All the forwards help out on Defense and it shows in the win column. ANDRAKE last weeks player of the week on RD is playing well.
Anaheim picked up 10 points last week and is in 4th place in the West with a 7 point lead on 5th place Oilers. Rise of the Ninja and Mcleve have been tearing up the league and are tough to stop. They also have been getting great goal-tending by Pittsburgh’s Own rookie Goaltender AhL_Allstar-3 who is 4th in the league in wins, might want to change his name to NHL all star if he keeps up the good play.

Anaheim has blazing offense and solid goal-tending, we will see if Washington’s Tight Defensive system can with stand the pressure the Ducks are going to bring. Capitals will  need that full team D system in order to win versus the Ducks scoring machine.

Wednesday, May 21st 10:15

Philadelphia Flyers vs Minnesota Wild
Philly, who got one win last week from a controversial forfeit, they are a good team and enter week 4 first place in a very tough Atlantic division and involved in a three way tie for 2nd in the Eastern Conference. Philly has a wealth of solid players and a great, newly aquired, defenseman in Soccaplaya. They will be tough to beat moving forward. VanillahGorilla is #1 goalie overall in the league and is always a challenging goalie to score on.

Minnesota was a perfect 10-0 the last ten games out and is in first place in the Northwest Division and 2nd overall in the west. Chrono526 has been hot for the Wild in net ChiTownMenace has been tough to stop offensively. Chrono5216 is only allowing 2.23 goals per game and ChiTown is scoring 2.5 ppg. They have solid D-men like this weeks dman of the week, Donut-Doug and will be tough to beat as the season goes along.

With Philly #2 team in the east vs Minnesota #2 team in the west something has got to give. This will be a fun game to keep an eye on.

Thursday, May 22th 9:30

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Detroit Red Wings
Toronto has a lot of rookies on the team who had great success in the AHL. That success is paying off in the big leagues as GM and winger Rich2k and assistant and goalie DK_kassicus have the Leafs ready to play every night. Dasn1pa and Vinnynorthside are tough to stop offensively and they get solid  goal tending with DK_kassicus. They also have solid Dmen in pgTips, Atreyu and Exclamation 9. Despite having so many rookies, with an intelligent GM, Toronto is a tough team to face. While some teams are disorganized Toronto has a set style, a set system and they know how they all play, which makes them tougher than most. They are a 8-1-1 the last 10 and have a four point lead in the conference.

Detroit, led by NHL veteran Peerless boasts other VGHL veterans like Karlsson_MVP and TOSLICK  on the roster play and they a tight defense team. The red wings are red hot and a force to be reckoned with.

This will be great match up as the rookie offensive juggernauts face the veteran defenders in Wednesdays early game of the week.

Thursday, May 22th 10:15

Washington Capitals VS Detroit Red Wings
When you win like Washington has going 8-2 the last ten games and being in 2nd overall, you get the spotlight.
Washington vs the Red Wings is a marquee matchup.
Washington leads the Southeast division in the Eastern Conferance and Detroit leads the Central division in the West.

With 13 points the last 10 games the Red Wings are hoping to pick up steam. Hardik and Karlsson are solid defensively, and they have great goal tending in Nevernavok plus Skillszy is always a tough opponent.
It will be a fun game  as these two defensive juggernauts collide.

AHL GAMES OF THE WEEK - WEEK 4
By: sazer15

Wednesday, May 21st 2014

Chicago Wolves VS San Antonio Rampage
A battle of 2 top teams in the VGAHL. The Wolves are 23-1 on the season so far, lead by offensive powerhouse Dieryck218 who already has proven that he is one of the best players offensively in the AHL with a whopping 42 G and 36 A. Lead in net by jean2458 who has 2.29 GAA and a .822 Sv% they shouldnt be to worried about losing their spot on top of the standings. The Rampage, along with the Wolves, have starts in net and offensively. In net for the Rampage is chicks-n-whips basically if this guy is in net you can kiss your hopes of winning goodbye, with a 14-4 record along with a 1.85 GAA a .803 Sv% and 2 shuttys this guy is a brick wall back there. Offensively led by the one and only Class act, with 80 points already, he is amazing thats alll there is to it. With Class act you have DankChank with 65 points, that seems to be a bit overshadowed by Class act none the less he is having an amazing season. This is shaping up to be a real thriller, i expect a close game with San Antonio getting the win.

Thursday, May 22nd 2014

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins VS Chicago Wolves
The 2 best teams in the VGAHL square off to see who is more dominant. Could this be foreshadowing the Calder Cup finals? Ya, ya , ya i gave the Wolves 2 games this week, deal with it. When your team is the best team in the AHL i then you might get 2 also. Look above to see their stats. Moving on the the Penguins, with a record of 22-1-1 they might have deserved 2 games as well but at least they get 1. Led offensively by,  before i tell you you should know this might be a shock to some of you so if you have a weak heart you may want to stop reading now, ix-RaiN-iv with 25 G 51 A and has caused 15 goalie rage quits (last stat was false but i would leave for sure). Following him is AC llXMalkin_71Xll with 59 pts. In net is the 1-2 punch (although i can’t decide who is 1 and who is 2) of HITMAN1342 and Krilla92. My god that is nasty Krilla92, is rocking a 2.23 GAA and a 813 Sv% and HITMAN1342 is rocking a 1.56 GAA and has a .854 Sv%. Basically Chicago needs to hope they both get Mono by making out with the same girl and cant play, it is hockey after all. This will be a fun game to hear about later, get a capture card dammit, and i’m not even going to predict this one. One team will win and one wont thats all thats guaranteed.

NHL WEEK 3 SUMMARY
By: Mike "Grimtruth" Fluery

TOP STORY: TURMOIL IN ST. LOUIS
A rumour crossed the VGHL news desk earlier in the week that said that GAYPHISH, the General Manager of the St. Louis Blues, was going to step down and give up control of his team. In the days that followed this rumour had seen four prominent VGHLer's confirm it.

Further fueling the speculation was the trading of CCPiper to the Pittsburgh Penguins, which many believed was the beginning of a mass exodus in St. Louis. All things pointed to this being true.

All except for GAYPHISH and MeMack who both denied all knowledge of the rumours as well as any truth behind them.

At 12:52am Monday Morning the truth was finally revealed as the Blues released A-GM BIGYAN_ from his contract just 18 games into the season.

Later in the week, GM Gayphish made yet another organizational change when he bought out the contract of his AHL Captain GoodFella146 (34 points in 20 games as LD) who had led his team to a 19-1 start, first in the league.

On Wednesday Yan would be officially signed for 10.5m by the New Jersey Devils while the Calgary Flames would add GoodFella for $5.50. Signings that could drastically change the landscape in both conferences.

In St. Louis, Gayphish was not available to comment.

NEW AREA CODES
To sum of the aforementioned trade the St. Louis Blues sent forward CCPiper to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a multi-player deal.

To the Blues went Real_Deal18 (averaging just 1.71 ppg in his 7 games this season) along with standout AHL goalie HITMAN1342 who has 12 wins, a 1.60 goals against and an .849 save percentage in 14 games so far this season. The goalie going back to the Pens AHL affiliate is Krilla92 (9-1 with a .788 save percentage).

In CCPiper the Penguins get a very talented forward who consistently averages over 2ppg to play on jeff0012's wing. This signing will beef up the Penguins, a team that is in the middle of what might be considered the toughest division in the league.

In other minor moves; Altered_Beasst was moved from the Winnipeg Jets to the Ottawa Senators in a deal that save four players and a draft pick change hands. The Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers swapped players in a deal that sees IRONMATT69 (14 points in 10 games) and xS_m_ii_r_k (12 points in 8)change locker rooms.

The Vancouver Canucks made a move to trade xYuckox to the Boston Bruins for Sinwin and Shystiee. And the Phoenix Coyotes call up oticz from the AHL. The forward had 35 points in 15 games with the Portland Pirates.

THE GAMES
Sunday:
The Panthers faced the Tampa Bay Lightning in the opening game of the night. Starting goalie XzDEADLYxNASTYzX had a strong, ten save performance to backstop the Panthers to the 3-1 win. COORSI88 started the week strong tallying 2 goals in a 3 point night while newly acquired IRONMATT69 added an assist in the win.

In their second game, despite being severely outshot, Roostaa kept his team in the game with a dazzling 19 save performance that saw IRONMATT69 make his biggest impact of the night with his new team scoring the game winning goal. The Panthers beat the Devils 2-1 while being outshot 20-4. MAK-10TEN scored the love Devil goal.

Speaking of both the Devils and Lightning, they both had another opponent in common; the New York Islanders.

In two very hard fought, close games the Islanders win 2-1 over the Devils thanks to L_P1mp1N's third period game winner and a ten save performance by vastly overpaid starting goalie mikefleury29, including a big desperation spread-eagle save in the dying seconds. Then, in a truly great goalie duel, the Islanders bested the Lightning 2-1. Mesmerize-_- made 12 saves in the loss, Fleury had nine in the win and xXMiniMikeXx had the game winner.

In other games; the Coyotes beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-4 in overtime, the Washington Capitals defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 on four point nights from hockeyman_16king and laydownfool61, and the Dallas Stars clobber the Chicago Blackhawks 8-1 in a game that saw GET_ON_UR_KNEES and ReJecTz_ReaPeRz have 6 points, BARRYS_SNIPIN had 5, and the confusingly named non-goalie MY-GLOVE-ULL-LUV had an assist from the blue line.

Monday:
The Capitals entered play tonight riding an eight game winning streak. A streak that was nearly ended in game one when they ran into a streaking goalie in sexy yellow pads from the Islanders who kept the Caps to just a single goal on 14 shots... Fortunately for the Caps, their goalie NYIsles3 was better making saves on all eight shots he faced for the 1-0 win.

In their second game the hot goaltending continued with NYIsles making 13 of 14 stops and each of hokceyman_16, LUKASZ1980, and laydownfool scoring a goal to push the streak to ten.

The Coyotes, trying to turn their season around, took care of the imploding Blues 4-2 on the back of a strong performance by recent call-up oticz who had a hat-trick in the win. BOSTONHYDRO, playing in goal instead of team owner PNCPark2k1, made 17 saves in the win.

St. Louis' night wouldn't get any better as they fall 4-0 to the Stars in game two. Danger-Rally with the 9 save shutout while all Dallas forwards had at least two points, led by KNEES who had 2 goals and 4 points.

The Leafs dismantled the Penguins 6-1 on DK_Kassicus' ten save performance and VinnyNorthsyde's hat-trick. rich2k8 added two while every player had at least a point in the win.

Finishing the night; the resurgent Buffalo Sabers beat the Lightning 5-2. l9l-STAMKOS-l1lC had two goals and an assist, while every starter got on the score sheet with at least two points. Murloc-Death made 11 saves in the win. The Panthers took care of the Boston Bruins 4-1 with Mc_Dreamyyyy scoring two and adding two assists. The Islanders defeat the Panthers 2-1. Recently acquired L_DOMINANDO_L  scored the winning goal and added an assist in the win. and the Minnesota Wild went 2-0 for the night with wins over the LA Kings and Blackhawks.

Wednesday:
The Devils introduced their newest acquisition against the Bruins but it was Boston's offense that was on point in this one scoring six goals, four of which from Greekelite, while Hi_Im_Norm made 12 saves in the 6-2 win. Yan had zero points and a -3 on 1 shot.

He would score his first as a Devil in their next game against the Jets, a 2-1 win at home. Jets goalie TIAD made 9 saves in the loss, and GM ChEcKMaTe had the other Devils goal.

The Capitals looked to extend their ten game win streak when they walked into Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. The Caps took a quick 2-0 lead in the first period on route to 4-2 win. laydownfool and hockeyman had two goals a piece as the Caps go to 11 unbeaten. A streak they would continue in their next game, a 4-3 win. 12 straight for the hottest team in the VGHL.

Looks like the critics were wrong.

The rebuilding Vancouver Canucks dropped both games, first to the Blackhawks 4-2 while LINDE94 had a four point night and mood_doe had a solid nine save performance, and then to the Stars 7-0 in a game that saw JUICE_LAHEY put up four points, KNEES had six, and VxWoytkiw9xv had three assists from the blue line.

The Ducks had a strong two win night, including a 5-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. jay89b had a hat-trick in the win. The Edmonton Oilers, on the back of two goals from YoUU-MaDD-Br0o, beat the Stars 3-2. And finally, the Panthers take care of the Bruins 5-3, COORSI had 4 points.

Thursday
The Kings and Detroit Red Wings played an intense double overtime affair full of both scoring a solid goaltending. The Kings came out ahead 6-5 on a goal from XILO_ATOMIK nearly nine minutes into the second overtime period. XILO finished with 6 points while on the other side Nevernavok made 23 saves in the loss.

The Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers were also part of a high scoring duel. COORSI's five point performance, including the game winner, pulled the Panthers to the 5-4 win. Nine of the ten players that started the game finished with a point, except for Panther D-man AggroCrag24 who was held scoreless.

The Sabers, without suspended center Stamkos, took care of the Jets 4-1. LaPlante94 had two goals while goalie Murloc-Death made 11 saves in the win. They would go on to play the Capitals in their next game. More on that in a bit.

First, the Capitals took their 12 game win streak into a matchup against the Bruins. Despite dominating in shots on goal the Caps could only get one passed Hi_Im_Norm, who made 16 saves, while goals from ivanthygreat and Chaskin12 would prove too much. The Bruins snap the streak winning 2-1.

The loss would become a mini-streak when the aforementioned Sabers-Caps game ended. The Sabers, who have gone on a tear to pull within striking distance of a playoff spot going 5-2-2 in their previous nine added a 6th win in a 3-2 game over the Caps. Postalmic had the winner.

And while I haven't mentioned them previously, an oversight on my part, the Minnesota Wild are on an impressive 11-game win streak with wins over the Ducks and Coyotes Thursday night. They've had wins over Vancouver, Detroit, LA, and Columbus this week.

(Mesmerize-_-): Hey prettyboy, Thanks for taking the time off from catching pokemon to talk to me, So big news hit the VGHL yesterday, You were released by STL, Did you ever expect to be released from the team?

(bigyan): little bit of both ... we all know gayphish can have brain issues sometime and he just prouv it again

(Mesmerize-_-): Is there anything that happened in the days leading up to the release that might have caused it?

(bigyan): well i dissagree whit some decision he made .. so went intro arguin alot of the time ... at first Mr dustin franklin was trying to make me quit the league so he can quit tho.. but i decide either way and thats the reason he buy me out

NHL WEEK 3 POWER RANKINGS
By: Riseoftheninja and Tyrone

EASTERN POWER RANKINGS

1. Toronto Maple Leafs - This Week:  6-2-0   Last Week:  5-2-1

After 2 consistent and solid weeks of hockey the Leafs take over the #1 spot in the East. They beat last weeks #1 team, the Flyers, 3-2 and followed up with 2 victories over the Panthers as their most notable wins in the week. Their only losses come from a solid Pens squad and the second best team in the league in the Ducks which are not easy teams to beat.

Team MVP: DASN1PA  GP: 7  G: 11  A: 12  +4
Next Week Predictions: 5-2-1

2. Tampa Bay Lightning - This Week: 5-1-2   Last Week:  5-3-0

Another team who proved that they were skilled in two weeks time rather then having "one lucky week". They advance to the #2 spot based on providing good consistent play in putting up regulation wins. Considering that if they would have won the two overtime games, they could possibly have been #1

Team MVP: DJONESWILKILU68  GP: 8 G: 0 A: 5 +4
Next Week Predictions: 5-3-0

3. Philadelphia Flyers - This Week: 4-4-0   Last Week:  7-0-1

The former #1 on the Power Rankings list drops to #3 for this week with a minor slump. Their last weeks record is what is currently keeping them as high as they are with the potential to recapture that #1 spot again. Not that this week was horrible, but they know they are capable of achieving much more.

Team MVP:  JPH_VENOM  GP: 5 G: 9 A: 4 +5
Next Week Predictions: 6-2-0

4. Washington Capitals - This Week: 7-1-0   Last Week:  3-5-0
The hottest team coming out of week 2 is the Washington Capitals who have seemed to find their groove after a rough first week. They dominated with a near perfect record with their only loss coming to a solid Pens team. They look to keep the hot streak going as they enter into wee 3 of action.

Team MVP:  Sobo18  GP: 8 G:1 A:6 +6
Next Week Predictions: 5-2-1

5. Pittsburgh Penguins - This Week: 5-3-0    Last Week:  5-3-0

A repeat week for the Pens as they have shown no improvement, but also no signs of getting worse which isn't a bad thing. This still keeps them at 5th place which is a good spot to be in but a team like this wants to strive for the top seed in their respective division.

Team MVP: Jeff0012 GP: 8 G: 9 A: 10 +0
Next Week Predictions: 5-3-0

6. Boston Bruins - This Week:  5-2-1  Last Week:  4-4-0

The Boston Bruins come into week 2 looking to prove something and they did just that. With a solid 5-2-1 record they look to keep the run going into week 3 with highscoring offenseive support they have been getting. This team will consistently get better and be a top contender if the defensive aspects of the game are fixed.

Team MVP: ovechkin8jr GP: 8 G: 17 A: 13 +2
Next Week Predictions: 6-2-0

7. Florida Panthers - This Week:  3-5-0   Last Week:  6-0-2

With a very rough week compared to week 1, the Panthers slid down the Power Rankings. They relied much on their goaltending duo in week 1 and now that structure has snapped into week 2. This team is highly capapble of bouncing back if everyone comes to play.

Team MVP: DJones125 GP: 8 G: 1 A: 6 -4
Next Week Predictions: 4-4-0

8. Ottawa Senators - This Week: 5-3-0    Last Week:  4-3-1
The Sens have a better week, but not by a whole lot. They are still looking to find a groove and string together a big win streak to boost them up in the standings. The high powered offense is starting to click and find their scoring ways they lacked in week 1.

Team MVP: JAY6219 GP: 8 G: 12 A: 14 +16
Next Week Predictions: 6-2-0

9. New Jersey Devils - This Week: 2-5-1     Last Week:  6-1-1

The Devils came out of the gate flying with a very impressive record that not many seen coming but then they slumped back down to make the record mean nothing. This dropped them in the standings a lot but the season is still early to gain some traction and work their way back up.

Team MVP:  MAK-10TEN GP: 8 G: 6 A: 8 +5
Next Week Predictions: 3-4-1

10. New York Islanders - This Week: 3-3-2    Last Week:  3-2-3

A team that loves to lose in overtime which has impacted their spot on the standings largely. They can get it to OT, but just can't finish it which could come back to hurt them later. They have the potential to be a better team and when they learn to finish, they could move up some ranks.

Team MVP: xXMiniMikeXx GP: 6 G: 9 A: 5 +/- 0
Next Week Predictions: 2-2-4

11. Buffalo Sabres - This Week: 4-3-1    Last Week:  1-6-1
With a much better week and looking to forget the past. The Sabres are looking to be a competetive team in the playoff hunt. They proved it by having a much better week but the first week slide still holds them at #11.

Team MVP: L9L-STAMKOS-L1LC GP: 6  G:8 A:11 +8
Next Week Predictions: 4-4-0

12. Winnipeg Jets - This Week: 1-6-1    Last Week:  1-7-0

The poor Jets continue their struggles and made a couple huge trades to get the team going on a better route to success. We'll see if it actually changed anything in week 3 but the Jets are flying low and close to danger zone early on in the season.

Team MVP: N/A, Castro??
Next Week Predictions: 2-6-0

WESTERN POWER RANKINGS

This Week: (1) Last Week: (1) – Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars retain the top spot in the power rankings this week after an impressive 6-1-0 week with one game being rescheduled. Their most notable victory this week came against the Ducks on Thursday night in what was the battle for the top spot in the West, and the Stars left no questions on the table as they played hard from start to finish and came away with a 7-3 win. It starts with the backend on this team as they are back stopped by the best goalie in the league Danger-Rally and backup mkarecki has more than proven himself as a reliable option leaving the Stars with little to fear when the opposing team is shooting the puck. Woyt and Glove have played very well on defense contributing to the success of their goaltenders and further illustrated as the Stars hold the lowest goals against in the league. All that being said, Reapz and Knees have formed a formidable duo that every defense in the league will have troubles containing, throw in BARRY, lahey and depth option TYRONE who are all over 2 points per game and they should have no problem holding the highest goals for in the league as well.

The team MVP for Week 2 was ReJecTz_ReaPeRz who compiled an impressive 10 goals and 7 assists in just 6 games.
With a 9 game week next week, I predict the Stars will finish 7-1-1.

This Week: (2) Last Week: (2) – Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks complete Week 2 with a 6-1-1 record and based on most prediction threads, continue to be one of the biggest surprises thus far. The only downside this week for Anaheim, is although they came up with big wins against solid Eastern opponents Toronto and New Jersey, they couldn’t string together similar results against their division rival Stars and the under-performing Blues. Mcleve and Ninja have done most of the damage up front for the Ducks while Jay and Hero each take reps at centre. With Ninja leading the league in assists and mcleve leading the league in goals, the duo is doing what they need to do. Steel, snake and Crusty have gotten the majority of the starts and they the recently acquired and this year’s 2nd overall pick Dynasty1989. Dynasty has struggled so far only being a part of 1 win in 6 games played but if he lives up to his pre-season hype surrounding the draft, this could be a big win for Anaheim. In net, they will really be counting on AhL_Allstar to step up his play, whether it is a lot of high scoring chances or weak play, his .742 save percentage will not get it done in the long run but he has the ability to turn things around.

For the team MVP in Week 2, I have to look past the man who put up 4 hattricks this week, and go with the guy who is putting the pucks on a platter for him as RiseOfTheNinja gets the nod. Ninja put up a stellar 7 goals and 21 assists in 8 games, tying him with the overall lead in points after 2 weeks.

I predict the Ducks will continue their winning ways and finish next week with a 5-1-2 record.

This Week: (3) Last Week: (9) – Detroit Red Wings
This is the kind of week I was expecting from the Red Wings but after a slow start they showed the league that meant nothing finishing Week 2 with a 7-0-1 record. They only gave up 3 goals against once in the 8 games as they continue to rely on their excellent defensive pair and strong goaltending. Every game they line up Socca, Hardik and Navok on the back end, their opponents must know that goals will not come easy and they will have to work for their chances. Their main forwards Peer, CulDeSacc, toslick and Skillszy are all hovering around the 2 points per game mark as no one has stepped up as the real offensive threat for the Wings. As long as they all continue to buy into Peer’s defensive system and continue to play well positionally, Detroit will continue to rack up the wins and looking way in advance they will be a very difficult team to play come playoff time.

Nevernavok wins the MVP for Detroit this week putting up a 0.903 save percentage in 6 games, winning all 6 starts.

Detroit will most likely have another big week going 7-1-0.

This Week: (4) Last Week: (4) – Minnesota Wild
The Wild had a solid second week going 5-1-2, highlighted by splitting a pair of games with St. Louis, taking league-leading Dallas to overtime and crushing the East leading Flyers 5-1. Minnesota is pretty balanced in their lineup from top to bottom so while I don’t see their top line as a top 5 starting line in the league, they will be able to be a hard team to play night in and night out. Doug, spoon and 311 are the biggest names on this team and have been a big part of the success for this team so far but Menace, REPS, Chief, Sabres, Stellar, chrono, and Mavcho have all done their part. Last season, this team started out very hot and fizzled near the end so the high ranking comes with a bit of caution. With a struggling AHL affiliate, it will be interesting to see if they make some moves on the AHL squad to free up some cap and target a PHL player who could help down the playoff stretch in pushing them over the top and guaranteeing their playoff birth.

ChiTownMenace takes the team MVP for the week scoring 5 goals and contributing 15 assists to the score sheet. Well now that I look at it, it seems he had 3 points against Washington when they scored 2 goals and 5 points against LAK when they scored 3. Now he really gets MVP for doing the impossible!

Next week I think they will fall off a little and finish 4-3-1.

This Week: (5) Last Week: (3) – Phoenix Coyotes
The Coyotes had a horrible week going 1-5-1, and hoped to salvage it by rescheduling their division rival Stars and bolster a 9 game week next week. In no surprise at all, Portland rushed the games for top prospect oticz and he is now ready for an ELC while the Coyotes management bent the unwritten rules and managed to hold on to a known inactive until the last second to avoid fines and come up with enough cap space for oticz at the perfect time. He will surely help out the Coyotes offensively bringing the club chemistry with Krypt and moja. PNC will need to rediscover his game that he started playing in the second half of last season as his sub .700 save percentage isn’t going to do his team any favors and if the Coyotes continue to struggle after the ELC of oticz, PNC is going to have a lot of work to do.

The team MVP was Orion_James, because if he had shown up the plans for the Coyotes management would have taken on a big bump in the road.

Tough schedule next week but I’ll predict that Phoenix will finish 5-3-1 and will start to turn it around.

This Week: (6) Last Week: (5) – Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are going to be a team that scores a lot of goals and gives up a lot of goals. The acquisition of Acefive provides a solid starting lineup of ace, kyle and JJ. With no real goalie on the team, they basically rotate between sub-par goalies and hope they can outscore the other team with a defensive core that contributes more on the offensive end then in their own zone. They managed to pick up big wins against Detroit and Dallas this week but still only finished 3-5-0 and had 2 games where they gave up 9 goals. They will need to pick up a real goalie or buy into a better system on defence in an effort to not leave their goalies out to dry or this will be a recurring article on the Oilers.

Team MVP was Youu-Madd-Br0o who put up 6 goals and 7 assists in 6 games.

I predict the Oilers are going to have another 3-5-0 week with a tough schedule ahead.

This Week: (7) Last Week: (music) – Calgary Flames
The Flames went 3-3-2 this past week and have had a tough time putting their game together for 60 minutes on a nightly basis this season thus far. Some games their defense and goalie have played tremendous and the offense couldn’t find the twine, others the offense scores goals at the expense on their defense and end up giving up a lot of...
[6:53:47 PM] ..TyReeZy..: giving up a lot of goals. Overall, they resigned Penguins at 10 million and he has played great aside from a few bad games, but in a conference where a lot of teams are in a tough spot of no true goalie, Pens is a huge piece for Calgary, although him going on the IR could see problems for the team. They will continue to try out different line combos and hope some of their players can emerge as the starters and start stringing together some wins.

F0reign_0bjekt wins the Team MVP for the week putting up 3 goals and 3 assists from the back end without ever being a minus.

Without Penguins this week, the Flames are in for a rough 2-5-1 week.

This Week: (8) Last Week: (7) – Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus put together a 4-4-0 week as they continue to score a lot of goals riding the scoring ability of MadMax but in effect give up a lot of goals themselves. That is the only reason I have them lower than the standings indicate is they have not shown the ability to keep the puck out of their own net which is crucial. As one of three teams that give up more than 4 goals a game, Columbus needs to work together better in the defensive end and continue their game plan up front of passing to Max and seeing what he can do before opposing defenders begin to key in on his likelihoods and begin to slow his pace.

Team MVP is the aforementioned Madmax who compiled 9 goals and 6 assists in 6 games.

Next Week I see the Blue Jackets finishing 3-4-1.

This Week: (9) Last Week: (devil) – St. Louis Blues
Most prediction threads had the Blues as a division winner, cup contender, powerhouse. While this could all still be true, their woes in the crease have them on the outside looking in after week 2. Starting goalie, I think, Ricsha had some strong words coming up to the NHL calling out one of the best goalies in the league Mesmerize and has not backed up his talk up to date. He is currently sitting at a .600 save percentage after 9 games, and that simply isn’t enough for this team to win. The team is top 10 in goals for with that awesome starting forward line of piper, vega and yan but the defense and goaltending have not been good enough and need to improve.

The Week 2 MVP goes to yan who put up 7 goals and 10 assists to remain among the top 10 in points after the second week.

The Blues should finish Week 3 with a record close to 4-3-1 as hopefully one of their goalies can emerge as a true starter.

This Week: (10) Last Week: (10) – Chicago Blackhawks

While they have almost picked up as many wins as last season already, I am disappointed with the start for the Hawks this season as I predicted they would have a real bounce back season. It is still very early so all of that can change but they can’t continue to have 3-5-0 week’s and expect to be in good shape later on. They are in the bottom 6 in both goals for and goals against per game and boast the worst powerplay in the league at 13%. It does not help that their best and most expensive player em_tee_el is on the IR and has not suited up for a game, but this team needs a big week to turn the season around and regain their confidence before it starts to feel like Season 8 all over again.

Do_The_Evolution wins the Team MVP for this week playing 6 games on Defense and piling up 1 goal and 5 assists while being a +3. We won’t mention his 2 games up front.

I think we will be seeing more of the same from Chicago this week and predict they finish 3-5-0 but have the pieces to possibly move some talent up front to shore up their D/G situation and turn this season around.

This Week: (11) Last Week: (11) – Los Angeles Kings
The Kings had somewhat of a feel good week for them going 4-4-0 after only one win in their first week. They basically have a bunch of players under 2 points per game and then XILO who, similarly to last season, has been a bit of a one man show on offense. On defense they have 6 million on a player who has been on the IR for the most part, and the rest of their defensive core all together doesn’t equal that 6 million in salary. In addition, like most of the other Western teams they are playing with a struggling goaltender with his only highlights of the season so far being the most recent game, an 18 save performance against Phoenix for a win and 2 shutouts against the worst team in the league.

Team MVP goes to the only player worth mentioning at this point in XILO who compiled 14 goals and 7 assists in only 6 games. Get this guy some line mates!

The Kings have a pretty tough week ahead so 2-6-0 seems like a pretty safe bet.

This Week: (12) Last Week: (12) – Vancouver Canucks

After an 0-8-0 week, I will keep it short and sweet for the Cancuks. Lowest goals for. Highest goals against. Worst record. Almost every important statistic, Vancouver is in the bottom 3 and their affiliate is one of the worst in the league as well so I don’t see much improvement from there. This team needs to get better, and I have no idea how, but if they don’t do something fast, the season will be lost just a few short weeks in.

Team MVP for the week was Yucko because he wasn’t on the team for most of the week.

Let’s be optimistic, Canucks are picking up their second win and going 1-7-0 next week!

AHL WEEK 3 POWER RANKINGS
By:Boychuck

1(+2). Chicago Wolves- Most goals for, 3rd fewest goals against, highest goal differential. Need I say more? The wolves are off to an absolute tear to begin the season going 15-1 the first two weeks. Robieberto (3.8ppg), dieryck (3.63ppg), and homer (3.36ppg) slowed down a little week 2 but still lead the top offense in the ahl. It should also be noted that 4 of their week 2 games were decided by only one goal, with two of those in OT.

2(-1). Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins- The baby pens were the last to remain undefeated and can credit their success to solid defense and strong goaltending. They have the fewest goals against thanks to the network of hitman who improved his sv% to .854 this week. The offense isnt too shabby either ranking 5th in goals and the baby pens are led by rains 3.47ppg up front.

3(-1). San Antonio Rampage- Class (3.88ppg and league leading 154 hits) and dankchank (3.5ppg) lead the 4th ranked offense and despite a not so great week that saw his sv% dip down to .803, chicksnwhips minds the net with the 2nd fewest goals allowed. Dynamic in both the defensive and offensive zones, the rampage have got off to a hot 13-2-1 start.

4(+1). Syracuse Crunch- Another 7-1 week has the Crunch sitting atop the Atlantic division, but only by 1 point. The 6th ranked offense is led by gointodashow (3.18ppg), scyther (2.7ppg), and AC Spezza (league leading 11PP goals). In net, Jetter holds a nice .868sv% and 1.49gaa to put SYR at 4th in goals against.

5(+2). Hershey Bears- With a win over the rampage this week, the bears are proving that they are not a team to be overlooked in an Atlantic division that features both the rampage and the crunch. For those of you who just look at record, you should know that 4 of their 5 regulation losses came at the hands of the top 4 teams, so the bears 10-5-1 record can be a bit misleading. As I said last in the week 1 power rankings, the bears are the sleeper in the stacked east.

6(+3). Manchester Monarchs- The monarchs took heed to my writeup from week 1, and cut their goals against from a week 1 total of 30 to just 13 in week 2. Manchester boasts the 2nd highest scoring offense led by AC frehzers 4.21ppg and the 3rd highest goals differential. Talint had a much better week in net raising his sv% 50 points to .742 and backup smatt stepped in and put up 2 shutouts going 3-0 with .944sv%.

7(-1). Portland Pirates- After knocking off the undefeated baby pens and taking the 15-1 wolves to ot, the pirates struggled thursday night as AC trembley gave up 13 goals on just 36 shots to bring him down to a .796sv%. Look for trembley and C s1lentsn1pers to get back on track next week and get back to being the stingy team in the back end that we expect.

8(--). Norfolk Admirals- The admirals knocked off the last undefeated team in the west by beating the wolves in their second meeting, a rescheduled game from week 1. Jtowne had a rough week 2 as he saw his sv% dip to .818 and has split the time in net so far with backup youranis who posts a meager .755sv%. Look for the admirals to rebound during an easy week schedule wise.

9(+2). Albany Devils- The devils had a strong 6-2 week 2 losing only to the rampage and the wolves. They knocked off the baby pens in OT and took their revenge against the rampage winning the 2nd matchup between the two. Recent addition comeatme (3.08ppg) looks to spark the offense and noskills (.807sv%)  provided another solid week in net as the devils showed that they are here to run with the top dogs in the east.

10(0). Adirondack Phantoms- The phantoms found their scoring touch week 2 scoring 27 goals compared to just the 16 they scored in week 1. Unfortunately, blakfire seems to have fallen off his pedestal of an unbeatable goalie as he saw his sv% dip over 60 points in week 2. The phantoms will look to maintain their offensive attack while reaquiring that defensive discipline that jumped on blakfires back to carry them as they have a tough week 3 in front of them opening against the baby pens and finishing thursday against SYR and SAN.

11(+7). Texas Stars- The stars used a soft week 2 schedule to help recover from the damage of week 1 and try to reassemble the fabled “texan wall” that is so often tweeted about. Despite going 5-2-1 and beating a solid Norfolk team, their is still work to be done in Texas as they lost games to bottom feeders Iowa and Toronto. And while they may sit in 4th and last in the tight West Division, they sit in 5th for the Western Conference.

12(0). Abbortsford Heat- The heat had a good week 2 posting a 5-2-1 record to keep control of the top seed in the weak North Division. They are 7th in goals but will they be able to keep up that pace after trading away leading scorer comeatme. Drewdangles (3.17ppg) looks to fill in the void and maintain their offensive prowess. A big question for the heat remains goaltending as captain disturbance (.772sv%) has only played 5 games in net despite being a goalie and AC (and right dman) samaonlaxer (.767sv%) has played 6 games in net for the heat.

13(+3). Springfield Falcons- The falcons had a rough week 2 thanks to an unfriendly schedule. With losses to the admirals (x2), the baby pens, and the wolves in ot, the falcons cant be too upset with their week. They did manage to beat Syracuse, and it looks like they’ve found their goalie in smtoma (.767sv%). A somewhat easier schedule in week 3 should help them put up a few more points.

14(-2). Rockford Ice Hogs- A rough week 2 set the ice hogs back some, but the ice hogs look to shore up their own end and get back to how they were playing the end of week 1 when they won 4 of 5. Captain echelon comes off a rough week that saw his sv% drop from .750 to .734 so look for the ice hogs to try to increase their defensive pressure to keep the less than 12 shots a game they are allowing from prime scoring areas.

15(+2). Grand Rapid Griffins- The griffins managed to pull off a 3-2-2 week with their regulation losses coming at the hands of the rampage and the wolves despite still needing a netmind presence. Bree (.760sv%) has done a solid job putting up okay numbers to keep her team in games but hopeful starter pghfanatic (.728sv%) has underachieved. Definitely a team to keep an eye on once they get a solid goaltender.

16(-12). Rochester Americans- The sudden departure of captain getzlaf and AC calmdeathclaw left a gaping hole in the americans roster and our thoughts are with them during these tough times. Dmiller stepped up as temporary captain and had a rough week going just 1-6-1. The americans are still putting up goals with the 3rd highest scoring offense but need desperately to keep the puck out of their own net as they have given up 63 goals so far, much more than any of the other division leaders. Look for them to compete in a weak division if they can find a solid net presence.

17(-2). Binghamton Senators- The senators had a rough week 2 going 2-6 with their only wins coming against lowly Iowa and Toronto. Goaltending looks to be the issue with the senators as starter tibods .695sv% leaves much to be desired. The senators need to lock in and focus on the defensive side of the puck to make them themselves a contender, but there is time for them to find their game as they sit only 2 points down in the weak East Division.

18(+1). Bridgeport Sound Tigers- The sound tigers failed to improve upon an unsuccessful week 1 posting 6 points again as  they went 2-4-2. The sound tigers have given up the 3rd most goals against through two weeks and have the 5th worst goals differential. Mikeathom (.725sv%) needs to step up his game to give the sound tigers a chance to compete in a tough eastern conference.

19(+5). Providence Bruins- Despite captain copleys (.641sv%) tough first couple weeks in net, new addition saicri had a solid night to end the week as the bruins won their last 2 games of the week. Despite a terrible start that has seen PRO give up the 2nd most goals and have the 3rd worst goal differential, they only sit 4 points behind division leader ROC in the weak East Division. If saicri can hold the fort in net, the bruins can make a run at their division.

20(+3). Oklahoma City Barons- The barons had an tough week offensively getting shutout 3 times in 7 and going only 2-5. The offense needs to start clicking to give them a chance to win games, as they have the 4th fewest goals scored. G4s struggles continue in net as he has posted a low .701sv% while facing only 12 shots a game.

21(+1). Iowa Wild- A 3-5 week against one the easier schedules for week 2 leaves the wild in need of a spark. With twistedhaze posting a solid .795sv%, the wild need to start playing better in front of him to start turning some of those performances into wins.

22(+1). Toronto Marlies- The marlies have been bombarded the first two weeks of the season as tabbs (.779sv%) has played okay but is facing over 20 shots a game. Add into that the fact the marlies have scored the 2nd fewest goals so far and its not a pretty sight. Expect the marlies to keep making moves up front until they can get some solid scoring, but dont expect things to change this week as the schedule is not their friend.

23(-3). St. Johns Icecaps- It cant get much worse for the icecaps as week 2 saw them go 0-7-1. The icecaps failed to hold a team under 3 goals in week 2 and allowed 4 or more in 6 games. After the first couple weeks, it looks like the icecaps might be in for a long season.

24(-3). Utica Comets- With a league worst 28 goals, a league worst 83 goals against, and a league worst -55 goals differential, its sad to say that the comets have gotten off to a better start their than nhl affiliate canucks. Its been a rough start for the whole organization so look for some changes to be made to try to save their season before its too late.

NHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
By:Lemieux_Polamalu

Hi everyone, and thanks for coming to read Week 2 of Season 9's Player of the Week!

L_Pimpin is out this week, so I stepped in to help out the team. Look forward to Pimpin return to write POTW next week.
Lets look at who we have stepping up Week 2:

Overall POTW JAY6219 Congrats
POTW by POSITION
All Star Team Week 2

Left Wing:  JAY6219 12g 14A 26pts 3.25ppg +16

Looking at overall POTW - While Anaheims Mcleve and RiseoftheNinja have been tearing up the league with the Ducks, and OvechkinJr lead the week in points one player deserves special attention for player of the weak. JAY6219 from the Ottawa Senators is VGHL, season9, Week 2 player of the week. Left winger Jays +16 leads the way among leading scorers, showing a strong two way game. With unproven struggling inexperienced defense Jay6219 has risen to the occasion. Ottawa has won five wins out of the last six thanks to last years leading scorer who is also showing that he can play a two way game. With that +16 plus/minus, 26 points (including 2 game winners) Jay6219 looks to get the Senators back on track. Jay6219 is this weeks player of the week.

Honorable mentions: ovechkin8jr (30 pts), Riseoftheninja(28pts), Da1Snipa(26pts)

Center: L9L-STAMKOS-L1LC 8g 11A 19Pts +8 3.17ppg 53% Faceoff

Buffalo Stamkos was a standout for the league last week. The Sabers look to turn there season around after starting the season 0-6 they have gone 4-4 the last 8 games and playing better. Stamkos, playing on a struggling Buffalo team, looks to get them back on track. He had a league leading 19 points for Centerman and his 53% faceoff percentage edges out Pittsburghs Jeff0012. Stamkos edged out the other centerman this week getting a +8 in 6 games showing he is a good two way player. The Sabers will need to lean on him if they want to make the playoffs.

Honorable mentions: Jeff0012 (19pts) Fluri (18 pts)

Right Wing: MUDD_FLAPPS  7gp 12g 12a 24 pts +14 7ppg 2gwg

Very tough choice for RW week two with Mcleve , XILO_ATOMIK and Greekelite playing very well and difficult to stop, but MUDD +14 is top among leading scorers. His performance has the senators 5-1 the last six games and back in elite form. Mudd been averaging nearly 3.5 points per game , proving he is still one of the NHL's top elite threats.

Honorable mentions: Mcleve (27 points), GreekElite (25pts), Rich2k (21pts)

Right defense: AndradeK94 1g 11a 12pts 2 ppg +4
True Det Hardik88 and Ott Lemiuex_polamalu had lead leading plus minus on the week for RD week2, while playing with good forwards, it is Right Defenesman for the Washington capitals Andrakek94 who gets the nod for player of the week2. His 2 ppg leads the league for all defensman week2. His 12 points is top this week for a d man but a positive plus minus shows he is capable in his own end. At 10-6 the Capitals are showing they are a force to be reckoned with at both ends of the ice.

Honorable mentions: Lemiuex_Polamalu, Hardik88(+13),MyGloveyUllLove

Left defense:  Soccaplaya11 1g 10a 11pts +14 1.38ppg

While other defenseman have started to emerge , soccaplaya11 is a standout. His +14 plus minus is second in the league to donkeyX at LD but 11 points(10 assists and 1 goal) shine over other left defense-man. Socca has the wings 8-2 the last 10 games which puts Detroit first in the central division Socca's continues to prove he is a force at both ends of the ice. Detroit is a force to be reckoned with needing to defend the forwards and also stop him from scoring. Soccaplaya is an excellent two way defense and this weeks defensive player of the week.

Honorable mentions: Donkeyx (+16), SteelCityFan (+10)

Goalie: Nevernavok 6gp 6-0 .892% 1.17 GAA
Tough to say who is helping who, with Detroit having a great Defense, but the redwings Goalie is player of the week. Nevernavok easily had the best save percentage , close second would be Dirtydangles. With only 1.2 goals allowed per game detroit is frustrating opponents. A perfect 6-0 this week Nevernok runs away with Goalie of the week. Its hard to say how great he is with Socca playing great defense in front but with the two together the Wings (10-5-1) will be a tough team to beat this year.

Honorable mentions: DiiRTYDaNGLeS (.895%) , DK_Kassicus (6-1)

Thank you all for taking the time out of your busy seasons to read this. Please come back next week for my week 3 Team of the Week when L_Pimpin returns.

AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
By:xstcopleyx

Forward:

KORYOWEN put up outstanding numbers this this week on a not so outstanding team making himself forward of the week and more than justifying his lowly .25 million dollar contract for the entire season.  He put up 3.14 ppg throughout his 7 played while his team went only 2-5-1 which shows that it isn’t the offense that is struggling.  With his nearly 50 % faceoff win percentage, he is really excelling for his team and becoming a surprise throughout the league with his ability.

Defense:

This weeks defenseman of the week goes to cptnamrica putting up a +/- of 16 and only taking 2 pims in 8 games to help his team go 6-1-1 on the week.  During this time he put up 12 points (9 assists) and registered 13 hits.  I can tell you from experience, that it is hard to get past this defender.

Goalie:

For a second week in a row, the goalie of the week goes to hitman1342 posting up a save percentage of .857 in 7 games and recording a 5-2 record with 1 shutout.  He is continuing his miraculous performance with the help of his team in Wilkes-Barre Scranton.  They have allowed him to keep his GAA at 1.50 this week and 1.57 on the season.  That is an insane number on this offensively minded season at the AHL level.

NHL GAMES OF THE WEEK-WEEK 3
By:Viperman

Sunday, May 11th

PHOENIX COYOTES VS ANAHEIM DUCKS
A couple divisional rivals coming out of week two, both need to start their week with a win. Anaheim needs this game so they can continue proving to the league that they are a force to be reckoned with, they cannot slow down with all this momentum. While on the other side of the ice stand the ‘Yotes, who have been having a decent season so far but not getting the win total that they were expecting. This game is huge for Phoenix. They need a great week to get back in the race of the Pacific Division title, as they are currently 10 points behind the red-hot Ducks, and it all starts with this game.

The Ducks had an amazing week 2, going 6-1-1, with RiseoftheNinja getting 28 points in the 8 games he played week 2, and Mcleve913 is right behind him with 27 points in all 8, week 2 games. Jay89b has been a great addition to the Ducks, currently with 12 points in the 4 games he played, 8 of those being goals, with an impressive 73% shooting in week 2. The Ducks have had great offense all season so far, currently sitting at 2nd in goals for, and aren’t doing too bad at all on the defensive side of things, at 10th in the league for least goals against.

Phoenix has had a shaky first couple of weeks, with high potential players such Moja111, Krypt_Keepa, and Guilbalt27, all under 2 PPG’s. However, they haven’t been doing badly in the Dzone, with the 9th least goals against in the league. There have been some bright spots for the ‘Yotes, such as BOSTONHYDRO playing solid between the pipes in the 6 games he has played for them, and having the highest faceoff percentage in the league, at 60%. If the Coyotes ever had a game where they needed to win, it would be this one, so they can beat a divisional rival and get their confidence back so they can start tallying up the W’s.

Monday, May 12th

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS VS OTTAWA SENATORS
At the end of week 2, it looks like Philly has really slowed down. Going 4-4-0 last week, but going 7-0-1 in week 1 has kept them tied for the Eastern Conference lead, with 23 points, and 11 wins in 16 games so far on the season. Meanwhile, the Sens have still been walking the middle of the pack. With a 9-6-1 record, this win could give Ottawa the confidence they really need to climb to the top in the conference.

The Flyers still hold a couple top scorers in Fluri and SnipeShow, but they both lost a few spots this last week. Fluri was sitting at 1st in points after week 1, but now has dropped to 5th, with 18 points in 8 games in week 2. This is by no means “unacceptable”, however, it seems like the Flyers need their top players to really be the best they can be if they want to continue being one of the top teams in the league. The Flyers still look good in the “Team Leaders” stats page as they are 3rd in goals for and have the 3rd least goals against.

The Sens haven’t been looking bad this season so far up front as they are 5th in goals for, but have the 14th most goals against in the league. Neither are bad stats, but if the back end can step it up for Ottawa, and the guys up front can keep doing what they are doing, they could start stacking up the wins. Jay6219 and Mudd_Flaps have been incredible for the team so far, putting up majority of the points for the team, both sitting in the top 10 in points.

Wednesday, May 14th

ST LOUIS BLUES VS MINNESOTA WILD
What happened to these two teams? Other than a few people in the league, these teams were expected to be in opposite roles at this point of the season. The Wild have really stepped it up, and are currently holding the lead for the Northwest Division and sit at the #3 spot in the West. While the Blues have been going down a bad road, currently not even in a playoff spot!

The Blues have been in a disappointing season so far, expected to be a Stanley Cup favorite, and now are only in the #9 spot in the West. BigYan__ has still been a force on this team, at 6th in points with 44 points in all 16 games so far in S9. CCPiper has been a help to the team as well, at T-23 in points. So while the Blues haven’t been doing badly in the O-zone with the 8th most goals for, they havent been doing so well in the back end, with the 4th most goals against in the entire league. Neither goal-tenders on the Blues have save % over .650.

The Wild have been proving many people wrong so far this season. They are only at 16th in goals for, but have been doing very well at keeping the puck out of their net, with the 5th least goals against in the league, with only a 2.31 average goals against. Chrono265 and TheBigSpoon97 have both been solid in net for them and the blue line has been solid with Donut-Doug and ChiefTrout leading the way.

Thursday, May 15th

DETROIT RED WINGS VS DALLAS STARS
Incredible week 2’s for both of these squads. They will face each other and really test how far each team can go in this league.

Detroit coming out of a 7-0-1 week 2 has been absolutely on fire. No real stand out scorers for the Wings yet, but the key on this team has been depth and defence. The Wings aren’t doing too badly up front, at 13th in the league for goals for. Let’s look at defence though. The Wings are at 2nd in the league for least goals against and have an average of only 2.06 goals against per game. The key for Detroit will be to keep the back end doing what it’s been doing and if they can produce a little more offence, they will be golden.

Dallas on the other hand, has gone 6-1 in week 2 with one game which has not yet been recorded. ReJecTz_ReaPeRz is currently sitting tied for the league’s lead in points, at 48 with a 3.43 PPG and Get_On_Your_Knees only 6 sports behind him, with 42 points. Dallas currently leads the league in goals for and has the least goals against, making them probably the top team in the VGNHL right now.

NHL WEEK 2 SUMMARY
By: Mike "Grimtruth" Fleury

NEW AREA CODES
There was (arguably) one big, potentially blockbuster deal made this week as well as a lot of tinkering around the league. To get to the blockbuster we must first see the moves that made it possible. Here is a roundup of the notable moves.

Please note all stats are as of the day the trade was made, they won't include any stats in games played afterwards.

The Edmonton Oilers acquire acrobatic_beast from the Chicago Black Hawks in exchange for sazer15. acrobatic_beast was initially assumed to be the #1 goalie in Chicago but with the emergence of moon_doe as a #1 and beast's struggles early, the two million dollar goalie was no longer needed.

So far this season beast has seen three games of action going 1-1-1 with a .575 SV% and a 4.67 Goals Against.

Sazer was near immediately moved in a second move by Chicago, sending him to the Buffalo Sabers for CADILLACSTS (4GP with 5 goals and 5 assists). Sazer should give the Sabers a very good backup goalie. So far this season Sazer has a .727 save percentage and a 2-1 record.

And that brings us up to the big trade of the early half of the week. The Oilers, who had just acquired acrobatic_beast and played him in just one game (a 9-4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets where he made 10 saves on 19 shots), send him along with D-man XYuckoX to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Acefive and IlluminatiXIX.

Acefive has 12 points in 5 games coming off a 105 point season last season while XYuckoX, coming off a very solid 54 point season and +12 on the blue line has had a strong start with 8 assists in 9 games, but is a -9.

The Minnesota Wild acquired SABERS2019 (4gp 3 goals, 4 assists) and Stellar-D-Man for fireeyes and kerntastic from the Jackets.

And finally, in a late week move, the Pittsburgh Penguins send foxpresentation (D-man with 6 points in 10 games and a +8) in exchange for HEMMERTIME (17 points in 12 games, -22).

THE GAMES
Sunday:
Game of the night had to be the New York Islanders and Winnipeg Jets which finished in a double overtime 2-1 goalie duel that saw tiad make 10 of 12 saves and mikefleury29 stop 12 of 13 for the win. DynamicKarma potted the winner 2:58 in the second overtime as the Islanders get a tough win.

The Sabers had a two win night, first by beating the once undefeated (in regulation) Florida Panthers 3-1 and then holding on to a 5-4 win over the Islanders. l9l-Stamkos-l1lC had a six point night, flo_ridaboy23 pitched in with 4 and on the blue line dorsett_15 had a strong 5 point night (1 goal, 4 assists) in what could be the beginning of a resurgence in Buffalo.

DK_Kassicus proved his managers faith in him is not misplaced making 10 saves in the Toronto Maple Leafs victory over the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2. Captain rich2k8 scored a hat-trick in the win.

Before the game, Rich had this to say; "If there's one goalie that I trust back there, it's DK. I've known him for years, much prior to VGHL. He's an 82 game goalie who is as consistent as they come. There's no one I'd rather have in net for my team"

Things got worse for the Flyers who lost their 2nd game of the season 5-4 to the Jets thanks to a five goal second period where CastroGstar put up 2 goals and 3 helpers, as did HEMMERTIME, and tiad made 17 of 21 stops.

The Boston Bruins beat the New Jersey Devils 5-3 on ovechkin8jr's 4 goals (did the Devils not know to stop him?), the Anaheim Ducks dominated the Blue Jackets 6-2 while mcleve913 and jay89b scored hat-tricks and RiseOfTheNinja had 5 assists, and the Detroit Red Wings corrected the ship with two wins, 3-2 over Calgary and 2-0 over the struggling Phoenix Coyotes.

Monday:
The Flyers continue their up and down week with a loss to the Wild 4-1. three_eleven had four points as well as new acquisition SABERS2019 who had a goal and three assists.

The Pittsburgh Penguins dominated the Vancouver Canucks outshooting them 15 to 3, having over 5-minutes more Time On Attack, and winning 6-1. Real_Deal18 had a 5-point game potting 2 goals and adding 3 assists. The SituasianX added four points including 2 goals in the win.

The Ducks continued their hot start outlasting the Maple Leafs in a 5-3 victory that saw mcleve score yet another hat-trick (his fourth in the early season) and RiseOfTheNinja move closer to the scoring lead with 5 points (1 goal and 4 assists). SteelCityFan17 made 12 stops in the win.

In the second half of the night the Devils and Ducks played a fierce goalie battle where biglamb420 and SteelCityFan dueled into overtime before Ninja put home the winning goal just 2:34 into the extra period. Steel made 9 saves for a .818 save percentage while lamb made 12 saves in the loss.

The Islanders scored a late third period goal in what was a defensive war between them and the Los Angeles Kings in MikeFleury29's first game against his old team (under new management). xXMiniMikeXx scored both Islander goals while the aforementioned Fleury made 11 of 12 stops. KlNFQLK had 10 saves in the loss.

The Bruins dismantled the Blues 6-2 with ovechkin8jr's 4 goals and Greekelite's 6-point game, and the Stars beat the Penguins 4-2 with 3 goals from ReJecTz_ReaPeRz, the present leading point getter in the NHL.

Wednesday:
The Ducks and Jackets played an absolute shootout of a game, each team scoring on at least 40% of their shots. swiftdefeat had 4 assists in the game, jason_23 added two goals for the Jackets while both RiseOfTheNinja and mcleve913 had four points in the win which puts both in the weekly top 5 in scoring.

STRAUGHN and ovechkin8jr each scored hat tricks while Hi__Im__Norm made 9 saves as the Bruins beat the Devils in the opening game of the night. The team quickly turned around to face the slumping Panthers in their second game. Ovie had a strong 5 point game while STRAUGHN and Greekelite added four a piece to win 5-1 to continue their turnaround having gone 5-1 so far this week.

The Wings took care of the Coyotes for the second time in the week winning 6-3 on the back of a solid performance by MYLEFTNUTTT and a 4 point night by bigdogrex and 5 from PEERLESS-.

Wrapping things up; the Devils beat the Jets 7-1, perry1978 and IIChEcKMaTeII each had 5 points, Fluri and JPH_VENOM combine for 5 goals and 8 points as the Flyers shut out the Jets 5-1 and the Hawks beat the Canucks 6-1 with a 6 point game from FIRESTORM19.

Thursday:
Divisional rivals Toronto and Boston went head to head in a Thursday night matchup that saw the two teams go to overtime in a high scoring affair. DASN1PA finished off a strong, 23 point week with a three goal, four point night. On the other side, Chaskin12 led the Bruins with 4 points in the game.

The Capitals and Lightning went to war in their Thursday night overtime war. Vito_Corleone backstopped the Lightning making 12 stops, but needed 14 as the Bolts lose 2-1. On the other side, ChitownMobstr looks to have taken over as the Caps #1 goalie with saves on 9 of 10 completing a week that saw him go 4-0 with an .833 save percentage.

And finishing off the night; a game that was not nearly as close as the others; the Ottawa Senators dismantled the Bruins 11-1. RUSTYTROMBONE7 had three goals and six assists while two others, MUDD_FLAPS and JAY6219 added hat-tricks (JAY finished with 4), 7 and 8 points apiece. donkeyX contributed from the blue line with 3 points including a goal and Lemieux_Polamalu added 2 assists. ovechkin8jr scored the only goal for Boston.

And that caps off the week in the VGNHL.

AHL WEEK 2 SUMMARY

Streak Breakers
In a rescheduled game set for May 4th  11:00pm, we saw the Norfolk Admirals face the Chicago Wolves in a home and home battle. These two teams previously met at the beginning of the night where the Wolves trumped the Admirals in a convincing 5-1 fashion pushing their streak to 9-0-0. After both teams played their 2nd games of the night, Chicago then travelled to Norfolk to play the Admirals for a second time. Norfolk made a minor adjustment in the lineup by calling up 4th Round PHL Draftee and current Edmonton Oil King - CrackShotMcGee. CrackShot statistically, had a great game putting up a hat trick and adding an apple for Norfolk as he had points on each of the Admirals goals. The Admirals convincingly won the rescheduled match 4-1 ending the Chicago Wolves streak.

The following night, the only team out of the VGNHL and VGAHL left unbeaten was Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The Penguins travelled to the Western Conference to face the Portland Pirates. Former Phoenix Coyotes Captain ix-RaiN-iv and the Baby Pens were squaring off against his old organization for the first time since stepping down as captain during the S8 off-season. Portland lit the lamp first with only 0.9 seconds remaining in the 1st period. The Penguins shook off the late 1st period goal and tied the game up in the 2nd . In a great defensive battle, one faceoff with the dying seconds of the 3rd seemed unfitting to break the Baby Pens streak. The faceoff was won by the Penguins and drawn back to the D. The Phoenix Coyotes top prospect Oticz poked the puck loose from the Pens D and was sprung on a breakaway. With 25 seconds remaining, Oticz buried the GWG and helped the Pirates win a thrilling 2-1 game, which ultimately ended the Penguins streak at 10-0-0.

Bearing down:
The trademarked Hershey Bears hashtag #Beardown currently defines the struggles going on in Providence. The Bruins are in desperate need of a starting Centre, and will definitely be scouting a top Centre man from the PHL. However in recent events, the Bruins picked up two much needed victories over divisional rivals Rochester and Binghamton on Thursday night. The wins put Providence only 2pts back from the 8th seed. Keep plugging a way Bruins, every point matters.

The Waiting Game:
After a slow start, the Grand Rapid Griffin’s who began week one with a 3-5-0 record slightly improved that record to going 4-4-2 in the last 10 games. Although .500 hockey won’t necessarily keep them in a playoff spot, it most certainly will keep the Griffins in the game until they can spend some cap! But for now they will have to be patient and stay above water. I’m sure Peerless made sure his AHL affiliate have some money to blow for a very special ‘Top PHL Prospect’

Trouble in the GTA:
The Marlies finished week 2 with a 3-13-0 record (2nd last in the Eastern Conference). The Marlies currently have 31GF and 71GA which leads the Eastern Conference with a difference of -40. I do however take into consideration that Toronto just recently cleared the 4M-salary of xLegendary-. But this team has to tighten up defensively if they want a chance to crack the top 8. Considering all they need is 3 wins to put them back into contention, this task is definitely achievable but it is an uphill battle from here on out.

From Meltdown to Hockeytown:
The place is finally rockin’ in the heart of Texas! The #TexanWall is finally clicking despite a disappointing first week. With lots of high expectations, it appears as if T-man went from trading the entire roster in the first week to keeping them the next. Posting a 7-2-1 record in the last ten games, this definitely makes up for the horrific start in week one. I suspect Danger-Rally may have taught his AHL captain some tricks on how to play Goaler

The Show Goes On:
The Rochester Americans received some unfortunate news when they heard that captain (and AHL leading point scorer) Getzlaf9915 stepped down as captain, putting an end to his season due to a family emergency – As we all know as a community, life and family commitments and obligations always come first before a video game. As a community, we’d like the wish the best for Getzlaf and his family and hope he can one day return to the VGHL. For the time being, Veteran and experienced Captain DMiller2009 has stepped in as temporary captain in order to continue Rochester’s early season success. Although this may be easier said then done as we will most likely see the Sabres Organization call up top AHL forward JoshB12345. Can DMiller prevent a ship from sinking?

PHL DRAFT REVIEW/SEASON PREVIEW
By:xstcopleyx

Well, it looks to be the most exciting year in PHL history this season.  We expand teams to 14, and have much more depth than we ever have before.  Games to advance contracts are back down to 10, and everything is lined up to be an exciting and long PHL season.

I have quickly gone over every team in draft order for you guys here.

Kitchener Rangers
Owner- SIR-_SMOKE-_ELOT
Captain- manselriley

SirSmoke comes to the PHL after winning the AHL calder cup last season with Rockford. Smoke, a new captain this year, had the number one overall draft pick, getting the supposed top goalie.  His teams early success might depend on how this goalie starts before moving up to the AHL level.  Hopefully there is enough talent on this team to keep him protected early on.

SIR-_SMOKE-_ELOT could not be reached for questioning.

London Knights
Owner- NONE

Londons chance of a 3-peat may have come to an abrupt halt at the beginning of the season already with the Knights failing to show up at the draft.  With faces looking on in disappointment (T-man-13hp, and Qczfinezt_Knhl), the rest of the league can only wonder. The PHL is currently looking for a replacement owner after JohnnyBlaze was removed from his position.

JohnnyBlazeBR1 could not be reached for questioning on the matter.

Portland Winterhawks
Owner- Qw3rty9401
Captain- zack_321

New owner Qw3rty9401 feels as if he has a strong team, and I have to agree he just might.  He has possibly the top forward of the draft in the form of ScottyBoy55.  Will their offense be able to provide the high hopes?  Here is what he had to say about his top pick.

[10:43:06 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): You won the 3rd overall pick in the lottery this draft
(Second overall due to London's absence).  How do you feel about your top pick ScottyBoy55?

[10:59:08 PM] Qw3rty9401: I feel that it was a great decision. The feeling to lock down a player like him on your team is always reassuring. He attended almost every one of our camps so you know he was interested in our team and to top that off with pure skill, you can't ask for much more then that especially when he had chemistry with my captain (zack_321) and I.
It also helps that he has some knowledge of the VGHL. He played last year and won it all with the Knights I believe, so yes he has some experience. Hopefully he can help out some of the newer guys in the dressing room. All in all,  he was on my list to be picked first round for a while before the draft and I would not change my mind about him if I had to redo the draft. I'm excited to play alongside with him and I'm sure everyone on the team is as well. It's going to be a great season.

[11:04:54 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): Do you feel as if ScottyBoy55 could become the next Krypt_Keepa?

[11:17:38 PM] Qw3rty9401: Scotty could easily become the next Krypt_Keepa. His talent and skill show it. His 4 points per game is one thing to brag about but his talent on the ice is something you need to see for yourself. From what I've seen from playing with him, Scotty is a game changer and can lead a team to a win. If he can play like this in the PHL, I can't even imagine what he'd do in the AHL and NHL.

The round Scotty was drafted in does not lie of the degree of talent he has. He may not have been a hidden diamond like Krypt but that does not matter. He was drafted 3rd overall for everyone to know and see who he is. His talent once the season starts will demonstrate how good of a player he is. I'm positive his future in the NHL will be as great as Krypt.

Brandon Wheat Kings
Owner- comebackkid92
Captain- BurtSauced

The one and only comebackkid92 seems to know what he is doing here.  He had a solid draft, scoring some good D men.  Look for this team to be sound defensively.  Hopefully he can find that chemistry that he is looking for.

[11:21:30 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): You score quite possibly my personal favorite true D man of the draft in the 3rd round in the form of Socotimmer.  How does that huge pick boost your personal momentum as a team moving onward with the season here?

[11:24:41 PM] Wilson Spence: It makes it easier having a solid defense on the back end but like any team he's just a piece of the puzzle there are 12 guys on this team in each one plays an equally important role in the teams success.

[11:25:38 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): Do you feel as if you have this puzzle solved already to begin the season?  Or is it a work still in progress?

[11:29:59 PM] Wilson Spence: I don't know if I have solved it or not, I'm just going to have to get out there and play to see if I have not

Edmonton Oil Kings
Owner- xi-moneyshot-ix
Captain- cristiano17---

This is money’s first time being an owner after joining the VGHL late in season 8. In his short S8 stint he put up impressive numbers in net.  He seems to already have a solid back end, but will they get a lot of playing time with him having 2 lines?  We will see who he decides to run after week one is over.

[10:48:13 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): So, Money, you scored a solid G in the form of fanofbilickihair later in the draft with solid D in front of him.  Do you feel that will be enough to win games?  Or do you feel that your offense is strong enough to dominate as well?

[10:49:37 PM] - Money: to be honest , the way i built my teams i have 2 full solid lines
[10:50:22 PM] - Money: my first 2 fwd lines , i got underestimated D men . and 2 potential top Gs in the league

Saskatoon Blades
Owner- cptnclutch28
Captain- Bloop_33

Cptnclutch28 has another sound team on defense, and it seems that he has very strong fate in that end of the ice too.  hopefully this will allow him to only focus on bettering the offense and put those pucks in the net.  Here is what he had to say.

[3:11:22 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): so cptclutch, you have a strong defensive core.  How do you feel your build around that is?

[3:13:06 PM] Cptnclutch28: well I wanted to build a team that’s going to keep pucks out of our net first and foremost. having a good defense and good goaltending was one of my top priorities. Anyone can run into a goal or two now and then but good defense will always be there

Mississauga Steelheads
Owner- SVNicknitro
Captain-ROCKSTAR-RACIN14

Nitro Was able to put a solid team together in the middle of the draft.  Will his team suffer for picking here though and become middle of the pack?  All and all, he got a solid winger in the form of x-Drouin-x and seems to have a solid team.  We will see how it goes throughout the season.

[5:53:23 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): You picked in the middle of the draft, do you feel that this was advantageous for you, or would you have rather picked on one of the ends (Ex: 1st, 2nd; or 13th, 14th)

[5:56:42 PM] Nick Neil: I saw it as an advantage, It would have been nice to pick first or earlier to get a top notch guy but I believe that I did, and I was able to put a strong nucleus of guys together from the middle
[5:57:14 PM] Nick Neil: it was nerve wracking waiting though

Niagara IceDogs
Owner- canukie
Captain- Spud_the_Scrub

Canukie and Spud_the_Scrub.  Two fairly well known names around the community that are finally making their way over to the VGHL.  It will be really interesting watching these two run a team together.  You can be certain that Canukie will be tough to beat in net, so that allowed this team to focus on forwards.  They might have the top offense in the PHL currently, but we won’t know until after the season starts.  I like the way that the team looks, and feel like they will be dangerous.

[10:31:09 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): After securing three top forwards in the 1st three rounds, how do you feel about your teams defense coming into this season after putting that on the back burner?

[10:34:26 PM] Spud_The_Scrub: i actually feel great, we got arrow who not many people have seen him on D but he moves the puck very well also with Ezz could be a threat also if he goons less

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
Owner- night_hawk_89
Captain- BLOODLINE_INC

Night_Hawk, a returning owner looks to have a much better season than he did last year.  Night hawks focus last year was on solid defense.  This year it seems to be much more rounded.  In the first 7 rounds he has 3 C/LW and 3 G/RD, not drafting a true LD until the 8th round and a true RW until the 10th round.  Who is going to step up and play these positions for him?

Night_Hawk_89 could not be reached for questioning on this matter.

Swift Current Broncos
Owner- water_wheels
Captain- Copes80

Water_wheels is probably the most experienced captain here, being a long time AHL’er.  He seems to know what he is doing, and have his stuff together.  Hopefully this good bunch of guys turn out for him, and help boost him to an eventual memorial cup.

[2:18:49 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): Water, how do you feel about your team this season?  Do you think your VG experience helped you in picking the players you selected?

[2:26:25 PM] Wheels(Swift Current Broncos Owner): We feel like the draft went well we were looking for a specific type of player going into the draft and the guys we selected all fit that role. Each guy has different aspects to their games which will become the Swift Current Bronco way of doing things.

As for the second part of the question. I feel that my experiences as a player the past few seasons did help in our selections. I definitely learned a lot from my season 7 captain in Rockford about systems and how to teach young guys and first year guys how be not only skilled players but more importantly team guys who are willing to do anything for the team.

Guelph Storm
Owner- PudgyMoose
Captain- Bmorebirds88

Next we have the one, the only, the Pudginator.  Pudgy is probably the early favorite due to him being one of only two returning full season owners.  Last season was not his brightest in any means, but that experience should be able to help him this season in decision making and scouting during the season. His top pick, TopShelfGod, will no doubt be a big time playmaker for the Storm early in the season.

[10:39:48 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): So pudgy, you come into this season as one of the only owners with experience.  Being the person everyone loves to hate, and the former season 8 sportsman of the year, how much did your experience from last season help you in this draft?

[6:25:33 AM] Pudgy Fucking Moose: Yes I believe that my experience greatly improved my draft this season. I learned a lot more about what I need on the team. As for being the person everyone loves to hate, it's probably the best part about being an owner. Half the time people don't take you seriously and they underestimate your skills and abilities as an owner and a player, and that's about the best advantage you can possibly have . It's just all about doing what you think will help this team the most. Finding the right balance between offense and defense, a well structure cycle. A team doesn't depend on just one good prospect. It depends on all of my players working together like a well oiled machine. Which is why I think my experience helped me a lot unlike last season

Lethbridge Hurricanes
Owner- llx-BudZ-xll (AKA-CrosbyBudz)
Captain- l-Star-Fox-l

Budz looks to have the most solid team here and a top pick in the form of Dante_Luc.  Dante is someone who has been talked about a lot entering this draft.  Let’s hope for Budz sake (and some more people who shall remain nameless) that he pans out to be what is expected of him. He also added a few other players returning that were once nhl guys.

[11:10:48 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): You got the 12th pick in the draft, getting the possible steal of the first round Dante_Luc.  How do you feel about this pick and your team as a whole?

[5/6/2014 11:16:22 PM] BuDz: I like the pick! Can't believe he was there at 12 so that was a huge plus! I've heard nothing but good things about him as a player and look forward to having make a positive impact on the team while he is with Us! And my team as whole I really like and yes I have some good players that will go after there game are up! And I am aware of that and have a plan in place! I went with these guys to get off to a strong start to the season and come out of the gates flying and if I happen to lose these good players as the season goes on I have hidden gems to replace them and keep a competitive team on the ice and hopefully win a championship here in the PHL ! I hope that answers your question Bud!

Belleville Bulls
Owner- Invictus_Maneo9
Captain- Casper_x7

Invictus_Maneo9 is another new face to ownership this season.  Selecting 13th out of 14 in the draft securing a top G and top D man with their top 2 picks.  This team seems to be building from the back end out, which can often be a good thing as long as their offense comes through for them.

Invictus_Maneo9 could not be reached for questioning on this matter.

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds
Owner- EdgeXQ1
Captain- XSBUCKS

Edge has in my opinion the top team right now all together.  He had an excellent draft and has a solid all around team.  Let’s hope he can hold this team together and keep it growing throughout the season.  He has a solid D pair if Beantwn plays D instead of G.  But also a top faceoff center pshycicoctopusSP with a top winger tekmatic.  This will be a dangerous team early on.

[10:34:30 PM] Brandon (xstcopleyx; Prov Bruins C): Scoring both a solid fwd line and a d pair in the first few rounds of the draft, how do you feel about the remainder of your teams strength, and how they will do as a whole for the rest of the season?

[9:49:41 AM] EdgeXQ1: My was built from the back end out! We'll be tough defensively and have some offensive weapons as well, I expect big things from my diamond in the ruff(Malibucowboy) we'll be a force to be reckoned with.

WEEK 1 SUMMARY
NHL

By: Mike "Grimtruth" Fleury

The first week has come and gone and after eight games there is already a lot to talk about. Especially when discussing the Transaction Page.

NEW AREA CODES
In one interesting pre-season move the Winnipeg Jets and Anaheim Ducks swapped players (and assorted picks) in a deal that saw $7.5m CastroGstar (51 goals and 98 points for Chicago and Anaheim last season).

In return, Winnipeg sent rcgloe, a winger who scored 181 points (79 goals and 102 assists) in Springfield of the AHL and Crusty_Bojangles, a backup goalie (and d-man) who put up a 3.19 GAA with a .761 Save Percentage in 32 starts for the OKC Barons.

KCrusher33, the Owner of the Jets says that he hopes the deal answers a lot of questions about his team and their moves in bidding and believes it will add to the team's success.

"To add an extremely solid veteran of the league to a team that now (in my opinion) is a VERY strong mix of NHL Veterans (Hemmertime, Altered_Beasst, Castro and Boogz to name a few) to a talented group of NHL Level rookies like my Captain Viperman29, AquaMan and Whodi can help us both win now and set us up well in future seasons."

In a surprising turn of events, the trade may have turned disastrous as the Jets placed Castro on IR before the puck even dropped on the NHL season.

Mcleve, on the other hand, used rcgloe to complete a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs for Jay89b (a 131 point AHL scorer) to in a series of moves that may have upgraded their Center position.

In other trades; the Sobo-run Washington Capitals pick up a familiar face in hockeyman_16king (2.33ppg in 26 games for Grand River) in a three team deal seeing backup d-men yvester go to the Boston Bruins and Kernastic84 to Detroit along with Cody275 (198 points for the Providence Bruins).

The Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs made a deal, Toronto sending the aforementioned rcgloe to Calgary for VinnyNorthsyde.

OPENING NIGHT
After all the moves were made it was finally time to play the actual games... Well, sort of.

Probably the biggest shocker of the opening night was the Boston Bruins, led by ovechkin8jr and STRAUGHN being forced to forfeit the first game of the season prompting some to question how, on the biggest night of the season, you can't find six guys to play a game.

In a game that I said could be the Game of the Night on opening night, the Philadelphia Flyers blew out the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-0 while Fluri37 scored a hat-trick in a game that saw all of the starters have at least a point.  VanillahGorilla earned the eight save shutout.

In their next game the Flyers squeaked out the 5-4 over the New York Islanders on an OT goal by IRONMATT69. VanillahGorilla was tested a bit more than in the opener but managed to make 18 saves on 22.

In other games, the Anaheim Ducks pushed passed the Phoenix Coyotes 3-1 on the back of a hat-trick for captain mcleve913, two point night from new acquisition jay89b and a three point night from RiseOfTheNinja while goalie AhL_Allstar-3 made saves on 10 of 11 shots for the win.

The Dallas Stars started their championship defense with a pair of wins over the Los Angeles Kings (7-2) and the Ducks (4-2). GET_ON_YOUR_KNEES had a combined nine points in those two games.

And the Minnesota Wild kicked off their Season 9 campaign with a pair of wins over the Canucks and Oilers. ChiTownMenace had a combined nine points in the win while starting goalie chrono526 made 19 saves on 21 shots over the two games for a .905 Save Percentage.

REST OF THE WEEK
Monday:
Phoenix lost big 12-0 to the defending Stanley Cup Champion Dallas Stars in a game I suspected could have been the Game of the Week. Obviously didn't end up that way as Danger-Rally's Stars outshot the Coyotes 25-4. Apparently, the Penguins/Jackets Game 6 on TV was more interesting to goalie PNCPark than the VGHL game. Can't say I blame him.

Later that evening the Stars played what actually was probably the GotW against the Flames. Penguins2013 faced 16 shots allowing only a single goal. Unfortunately, he was up against Danger-Rally and one goal was all that was needed. Stars win 1-0.

In an early season upset the Ducks defeated Peerless' Detroit Red Wings 4-1. RiseOfTheNinja had a 4-point game while AhL_Allstar-3 had a relatively quiet night facing only six shots. The question becomes now; will Peerless retire?

New York Islanders were thrashed by the Penguins 8-2, the Capitals lost to the Flyers 8-1, and the Senator defeat the Sabers 9-3 in games that the goalies (Fleury, sobolioni, and PanaMark) would love back.

Wednesday:
The Stars ended up the last undefeated team in the league, unsurprisingly, and won their opening game 9-2 over the Wild before falling 3-2 in overtime to the Devils. That drops the Stars to 5-0-1 for the season, the same as the Florida Panthers who have gotten off to a very fast start.

The Leafs took the Flyers to overtime in what appears to be a goalie battle between DK_Kassicus and VanillahGorilla ending on a goal by pgtips-b to secure the 2-1 victory.

In other games; the Ducks continued their hot start on the back of a 5-point night by RiseOfTheNinja. The Flames took down the Red Wings 4-1. Penguins made eight saves on nine shots while Chaos_Rider and usermike4948 chipped in three points apiece. And on the other side of the coin, the Winnipeg Jets remained the only winless team after losses to the Islanders (7-0) and the Coyotes (4-1).

Thursday:
The Jets picked up their first win of the season leaving no teams without at least one win. It was a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. TIAD made 10 saves on 11 shots and VIPERMAN29 had a 4 point night.

The New Jersey Devils, who went 6-1-1 for the week, finished with wins against the Vancouver Canucks 7-1 and the Buffalo Sabers 4-0. GM ||ChEcKMaTe|| came up with an 8-point night, nick_x9710 made saves on 14 of 15 shots (.933%),

And finally, the Maple Leafs defeat the Dallas Stars 3-1. DASN1PA put two passed the Stars keeper and VinnyNorthsyde added another. Which means that the Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers end the week as the only teams without a regulation loss finishing 6-0-2 and 7-0-1 respectively.

AHL
By:xstcopleyx

This opening week was very exciting and full of events all across the AHL with a lot of drama, many trades, and teams finally starting to get settled with their lineups.
I suppose the biggest news this week was the most talked about game in VGAHL history between the Monarchs and the Stars.  This ended up being a 6-2 win for the Monarchs and the beginning of possibly the biggest rivalry in VGAHL history.  Who will win this twitter war and rivalry over the length of this long season?
Some of the big trades this week include one of Schyther808 going to Rochester, putting their cap at max, and locking in that final utility guy behind the captains.  Another big trade including Rochester gave them the starting goalie that they needed in the form of Brazilian-Goalie, and in return Providence got another big hitting LD x_Jack24bauer_x and a utility guy that can play center from last years calder cup champions named Fatjoedashow.  To top all of these trades off after OKC was put into a tough situation, they had to trade away bladezero2040 and take on cap getting the big defensive scorer KASHED006 and cheap utility guy xxgeauxtigersxx3.
Teams are starting to get into order, and get their lineups set.  These teams that found what they need and got settled are going to be dangerous in the upcoming weeks.  It looks like these teams are Chicago and Portland in the West, and the Penguins, Syracuse, and Rochester in the East.
This concludes this weeks wrap up.  Let’s see what exciting news the upcoming week brings.

NHL POWER RANKINGS
By: Riseoftheninja and AHL_ALLSTAR-3

WESTERN POWER RANKINGS- WEEK 1

1 Dallas Stars- (6-1-1)
After the 1st week in the books, the Dallas stars are this weeks numero uno with 13 points. Leading the charge from a rare position, captain Danger-Rally rallies his leads his troops with a solid 5-1-1 record with a 1.67 GAA. A solid week for the defending Stanley cup champions with only losses coming from New Jersey and Toronto.
Predictions- look for them to have a solid week again next week at 7-1
Dallas players of the week: Danger-Rally: 5-1-1 1.67 GAA, SV% .818, 2 SO- Get_ON_YOUR_KNEES- 6GP, 17G, 9A, 26PTs, +/- +18,4.33ppg

2 Anaheim Ducks- ( 6-2-0)
Sitting in at number 2 is a bit of a shocker for the league that people still may not be able to comprehend. The Ducks lead by Captains Mcleve and AhL_Allstar finish with a pretty solid 6-2 record with 12 points. The duck defy odds by defeating some pretty tough teams in DET, PHX, STL with only losses coming to DET, and DAL RiseOfTheNinja leads the charge with 20points in 6GP and a 3.33PPG.
Prediction: look for Anaheim to have another good week at 6-2
Anaheim players of the week: RiseOfTheNinja: 6GP, 7G, 13A, 20PTS, 3.33PPG
AhL_Allstar-3: 5-1, 1.84GAA, SV% .807, 0SO

3 Phoenix Coyotes-(6-2-0)
Coming in at number 3 are the Phoenix Coyotes out of the Dry ass desert. Leading the way for the Coyotes is the Lovely PNC and Moja111. After a rough start the Coyotes finish at a solid 6-2 rec with losses coming from ANA and DAL. Moja leads the pack with 8GP 5G 13A 18PTS with a average 2.25PPG. A bit disappointing after all the mouth that they had last year. But ihave faith in you
Prediction: if the Coyotes wanna stay at the top of the packs with the big dogs their scorers will need to get as hot as that damn desert, 6-2 this week.
Phoenix player of the week: Moja111 8GP, 5G, 13A, 18PTS, 2.25PPG

4 Minnesota Wild-(5-3-0)
Coming in at the 4th spot is my favorite team of people… the Minnesota wilds with 10 points this week. Led by Chron526 and Chitownmenace, they start the week off decently with a big win coming over Edmonton. Chrono leads the team in net with a 4-2 Rec with a 2.34 GAA. On the ice is REPS_71 with 6GP 5G 11A 16PTs. Good week with losses coming from CHI, DAL, and CGY. Decent week
Prediction: With some improvement on the defensive side and their sticks get fired up they can be seen to have a better weeks in the future but for now…. 5-3 next week
Minnesota players of the week: REPS_71: 6GP, 5G, 11A, 16PTS, 2.67PPG
CHRONO256: 4-2, 2.34GAA, SV5 .759, 2SO

5 Edmonton Oilers- (5-3-0)
In the 5th spot are the tough Edmonton oilers with 10 points. With a decent week the oilers look do get some wd40 on their sticks to loosen them up and score some more. Led By captains 2 talented guys in NowYoDead and YoUU-MaDD_BrOo this team should be doing much better. With 3GP ZYWICKI99 leads the team with 4PPG  with KyleJ83 with a 3.17PPG. they will be a lot better once things start rolling. The only losses coming to MIN, CBJ, and PHI
Prediction: Just an off week for them but I think it will get better… 6-2 this week
Edmonton players of the week: kyleJ83: 6GP 3G, 16A, 19PTS, 3.17 PPG
ZYWICKI993GP, 6G, 6A, 12PTS, 4PPG

6 St. Louis Blues-(4-4-0)
This week St. Louis comes in at a disappointing 6th spot with 8 points. Lead by GAYPHISH and bigyan_ this team shoud be in the top of the league with all the power up front in Yan, CCPiper, and Vegaridge. The problem lies in net. With neither goalie being solid enough to keep the team afloat the scorers up front must put enough goals up to win it, and by the looks of it they need 9 to win. The most stand out player I see is bigyan_ with 8GP, 13G, 14A, 27PTS and a 3.38 PPG. All losses came to DET, VAN, ANA, WPG.
Prediction. The offense is there and they are trying to hold up, but I believe there is just too big of a big gap in the net… 4-4 next week
St. Louis players of the week: bigyan_: 13G, 14A, 27PTS, 3.38PPG

7 Columbus Blue Jackets-(4-4-0)
This week in the number 7 spot is the Blue Jackets of Columbus with 8 points. This team is a lot better than what their record says. Led by Captains JSILVERS and Bigtizzle33 this team could be a force. XxMadmax94xX leads the charge with a good 8GP 12G 12A 24PTS 3PPG. Jason_23 needs go get it together if his team is to stay alive with a 2-3 record. They had tough losses to DET, STL, and 2x PHX
Prediction- they will get better but it will take some time… 4-4 next week
Columbus players of the week: . XxMadmax94xX: 8GP 12G 12A 24PTS 3PPG

8 Calgary Flames-(3-4-1)
In the 8th spot come the Calgary Flames with 7 points this week. The flames are trying not to fizzle out as they have a down week this first week. Led by theGdawg34 and F0R3IGN_0BJ3KT.. they should be a solid team on paper but haven’t been up to par even with their 10mil dollar resign in penguins2013. Penguins closes the door with a solid 2.36GAA and an amazing SV% of .842… but with the D in front not holding up he’s left to dry. The only other player that seems notable is usermike4948 with 6GP 6G 8A with a 2.33PPG. Losses coming to EDM, DAL x2, TOR, PIT
Prediction- if the D steps up and penguins stays hot they could be better but right now…3-5 next week.
Calgary players of the week: penguins2013 2-3-0, 2.36GAA, SV% .842, 2SO

9 Detroit Redwings-(3-5-0)
Coming in at the 9th spot another team that seems to be a struggling to get it together with 6 points this week. Led by Peerless- and hardik88 this team should destroy competition but is struggling to do so. The offense has shown up very little. Nevernavok holds his own in net with a 2-4 rec that could easily improve and a 2.34GAA and a SV% of .827 but he can’t do it alone. The losses coming to ANA CHI CGY PHI TB
Prediction: maybe this is just a slow week but I believe they will improve… 6-2 next week
Detroit player of the week: Nevernavok: 2-4-0, 2.34GAA, SV% .827, 1SO

10 Chicago Blackhawks-(2-4-2)
This week in the 10th spot the Blackhawks feathers are being plucked with 6 points and aren’t flying so high. Led by veteran captains LINDE94 and Lers780 the team looks as if they are trying to make an improvement to the bad season they had the season before, but it doesn’t look to bright for them. FIRESTORM19 look to try to rally his team by putting up some numbers with 6GP 4G 10A with a 2.33ppg, but he won’t be able to do it alone. Losses coming to STL CBJ MIN PHX NYI WAS
Prediction: they won’t get better this week but improvements will come but for now… 2-6 next week.
Chicago Blackhawks players of the week: 6GP, 4G, 10A, 14PTS, 2.33PPG

11 Los Angeles Kings-(1-5-2)
In the 11th are the kings who look like they are being overthrown with 4 points. Led by captain Mcdizzle and rockinrobbie this team needs to get it rolling and asap if they don’t want their kingdom overthrown. We see no notable payers from this team at the moment and if somebody doesn’t step up this team will plunder. LOSSES coming too DAL PHX ANA EDM FLO OTT
Prediction: nothing new is going to happen.. 1-7 this week
Los Angeles players of the week: N/A

12 Vancouver Canucks-(1-7-0)
This week in last is the Vancouver Canucks with a horrible 2 points. Led by lumpy_Ruthoford and Headcase this team needs the help of the hockey gods and some help of the EA sports team to get this team up the ranks. There are no notable players on the team and I don’t think there will be. But it’s their season. Losses coming to MIN, CGY, LA BUF, NJ, STL, EDM
Prediction: They aren’t gonna do anything… 0-8 this week coming
Vancouver players of the week: N/A

EASTERN POWER RANKINGS- WEEK 1

1. Philadelphia Flyers - This Week: 7-0-1  Last Week: N/A
The Flyers are 1 of 2 teams in the Eastern Conference that contain a record without a regulation loss. This made the decision easy to place them in 1st for the Eastern Conference Power Rankings.  Now it's not like they have played weak teams to gain this record either. They have beaten the Oilers (5-3-0), Penguins (5-3-0) and most noteworthy, the Devils (6-1-1) handing the Devils their only regulation loss. Their offence has been clicking (1st in East) as well as the defense and goaltending being just as amazing (Tied for 1st in East). Not many complaints here, if the Flyers keep up the heavy offence and great defence they will have a similar week as #1.
The team MVP for this week on the Flyers that helped carry the team was the owner himself, Fluri37 putting up 10 goals and 17 assists in 8 games. Hard to pick one player when a team such as this is playing so well in the first week of the season.
Next Week Record Prediction:  6-1-1

2. New Jersey Devils - This Week: 6-1-1  Last Week: N/A
I believe the Devils have earned second place in this Eastern Power Ranking with their  ability to beat a top team like Dallas (6-1-1) as well as suffering their only regulation loss against the Flyers (7-0-1) who are #1 in the Eastern Power Rankings.  The offense has been incredible (2nd in East) to start the season after a somewhat weak pre-season and they are shocking many with their results. Their defence and goaltending are holding together nicely as well (4th in East) as they make it tough for other teams to score. So far this team is working as one unit to get the wins with no all-star performences by any particular individual which makes them more dangerous if one of their players finds a groove.
The team MVP for this week on the Devils goes to MAK-10TEN putting up 7 Goals and 9 Assists in 8 games. However, his true value here is the excellent 59% faceoff percentage which is better then most at the moment while being a +10 rating.
Next Week Record Prediction:  6-2-0

3. Florida Panthers - This Week: 6-0-2  Last Week: N/A
The Panthers are the second of two teams in the Eastern Conference without a regulation loss mostly due to their outstanding goaltending and defence (Tied for 1st in East) while providing just enough offense (6th in East) to win the games. Some may argue that this team deserves 2nd in the Eastern Power Rankings however, 4 of their wins were from the Sabers (1-6-1),  Islanders (3-2-3), Kings (1-5-2) and the Jets (1-7-0) who are all last in their division with the Panthers also having no noticable wins over any strong teams as the record currently states. The Panthers must improve some areas of their game and relieve some pressure from the goaltending or else their record may suffer.
The team MVP for this week on the Panthers goes to the goaltending duo of XzDEADLYxNASTYzX with 4 games played .767 SV% with 1.75 GAA and Roostaa with 4 games played .885 SV% with a 1.37 GAA.
Next Week Record Prediction: 5-2-1

4. Toronto Maple Leafs - This Week: 5-2-1  Last Week: N/A
With a solid record, the underdog Leafs team is proving why they are a threat in the east. Their offense could be better (Tied for 7th in East) but where their true strength is right now is the goaltending and defence (3rd in East). Toronto has beaten the Stars and the Flyers which is very impressive as that was the Flyers only loss of the season so far. If they keep up their defence minded game style as well as the elite goaltending they are getting and find the scoring touch they know they have they will do even better next week. However, hopefully their goalie can continue to carry the heavy duty work.
The Team MVP for this week on the Leafs go to another goaltender in DK_Kassicus playing all 8 games of the season providing very elite stats of 1.79 GAA and .840 SV% which is simply amazing.
Next Week Record Prediciton: 5-3-0

5. Pittsburgh Penguins - This Week: 5-3-0  Last Week: N/A
The Penguins find themselves in a very tough division with the Flyers, Devils and the Islanders. Considering the tough division they provided a very impressive winning record. They are providing a very equal amount of offense (4th in East) and defence (5th in East) and this will provide them a similar record next week. The team is very well rounded and I feel this record represented the talent they have.
The team MVP for this week on the Penguins is foxpresentation. He has only played 4 games but the games he did play he provided a +7 on a rather neutral +/- team. It's hard to give defence where credit is due but I feel he played well in the games he did.
Next Week Record Prediction: 5-3-0

6. Tampa Bay Lightning - This Week: 5-3-0  Last Week: N/A
The Lightning have been pretty weak offensively (9th in East) to start off the season which is not good enough to maintain this record however, their is some light which prevails in their solid goaltending and decent defence so far (6th in East) to provide them with 5 victories. This team needs to improve offensively to advance their team up in the standings.
The team MVP for this week on the Lightning is Mesmerize-_- another goaltender which proves valuable to the team. He has played 4 games providing a 2.58 GAA and an outstanding .843 SV%. Vito_Corleone also an honourable mention playing 2 games in net with 2.02 GAA and a .818 SV%
Next Week Record Predictions: 3-4-1

7. New York Islanders - This Week: 3-2-3  Last Week: N/A
The Islanders enter the week trying to prove the haters wrong and they did just that. The three overtime losses could have easily been wins and provide this team with a very solid record. Perhaps they lack that allstar player that would be clutch and get them those much needed wins. The reason for these victories are because of the high powered offense (3rd in East) and the losses result from their weak defensive core and lackluster goaltending at the moment (10th in East). If they want to compete they must improve defensively or this record will declne and will get even worse if the offense gets cold.
The team MVP for this week on the Islanders is L_P1mp1N having played 7 games putting up 8 goals and 10 assists with a +2 rating on a -1 goal diffential team.
Next Week Record Predictions: 4-4-0

8. Ottawa Senators - This Week: 4-3-1  Last Week: N/A
The disappointing Senators have been playing poor by their standardsas they enter the season expecting to dominate with the roster they have but were only average at best. I expect them to turn it around next week and prove their Elite status. Their offense has been good but with the players they have a lot of people expect the best out of them (3rd in East). Their defence has been average (Tied for 7th in East) and has been their weakness so far.
The team MVP for this week on the Senators is Jay6219 with 7 games played putting up 6 goals and 9 assists and a +2. The stats don't seem amazing but their was no other stats that really stood out as MVP status.
Next Week Record Prediction: 6-2-0

9. Boston Bruins - This Week: 4-4-0  Last Week: N/A
Another team that is not living up to expectations so far with a mediocre start to the season. They have the recipe for great offense however they are doing very weak at the moment (10th in East) and providing very average defending and goaltending (Tied for 7th in East) in a area they need to improve as well.
The team MVP for this week on the Bruins is SLABAUGH04 playing 6 games with 5 goals and 11 assists. Not very impressive stats but better then anyother has shown on this team thus far.
Next Week Record Prediction: 2-4-2

10. Washington Capitals - This Week: 3-5-0  Last Week: N/A
Another underdog team that many have missing the playoffs are right so far. It's very early in the season but they have shown to be a decent team looking to improve after a slow start. They have horrid offense (11th in East) that is finding it difficult to put up two goals a game. A recipe for failure. Their defence and goaltending has not been a whole better either (9th in East) as they seem lucky to get three wins this week.
The team MVP for this week on the Capitals is Sobo18 with 6 games played having 3 goals and 2 assists. Another team where there was no amazing player leading the way.
Next Week Record Prediction: 1-6-1

11. Buffalo Sabres - This Week: 1-6-1  Last Week: N/A
A team looking to improve from a previous failure of a season enter the first week trying to forget the past. Their offence has been decnt (7th in East) but their defence and goaltending have been atrocious (11th in East) which is why they are where they are. I think this team wull get better as the season goes however.
The team MVP for this week on the Sabres is LaPlante94 with 4 games played with 5 goals and 7 assists proving a 3PPG player.
Next Week Record Prediction: 2-5-1

12. Winnipeg Jets - This Week: 1-7-0  Last Week: N/A
A team that was supposed to be looking forward to the future seems to be still stuck in the mistakes of the past. This team has the worse offence (12th in East) as well as the worse defence (12th in East) in the whole entire conference. There are many things that need to be upgraded if this team wants to be in the playoff race. However, there is lots of time to improve thankfully.
There is no MVP for the Jets this week as last place does not deserve one for no one stood out offensively or defensively.
Next Week Record Predictions: 1-7-0

AHL POWER RANKINGS
By:llXBoychuck_55Xll

1. Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins- The baby pens live up to their high expectations week 1 going a perfect 8-0. Rain (3.38ppg) and Malkin (2.63ppg and 66% faceoffs) lead the way up front and  hitman1342 (1.64gga and .850sv%) put up outstanding numbers in net to make WBS the team to beat.

2. San Antonio Rampage- ClassAct brings in talent back to the ahl for a dominant 7-1 first week of the season. He leads the way up from with 3.63ppg and AC dankchanks 3.67ppg  (as well as 64% faceoffs) have them rolling up front. Not to be overlooked, San Antonio has silently allowed the fewest goals so far thanks to solid defence and great goaltending from chicksnwhips (1.33gaa and .857sv%).

3. Chicago Wolves- The wolves are off to a fast 7-0 due to dynamic offense and good work on the back end. Dieryck (15G 4.57ppg) and homer (4.43ppg) and Robieberto (4.6ppg) make for an unstoppable line. Not to be lost in all this offense is the solid work on the back end by C goodfella. Despite not having a goalie with top end stats, the wolves are near the top in goals allowed and as a result have the best goal differential in the league.

4. Rochester Americans- Captain getzlaf comes storming out of the gates putting up a mindblowing 5.38ppg and 19G along with 4.33ppg from joshb making them perhaps the most dynamic duo up front. The real question with this team is whether or not they can keep enough pucks out of their own net to maintain themselves as a threat as they gave up a whopping 30 goals against. If they can find a reliable presence in net, ROC is a team to watch out for.

5. Syracuse Crunch- After losing their opener, the crunch won 7 straight to finish the week 7-1. With strong goaltending from sirpaco (.811sv%) and jetterisbetter (.917sv%) the crunch gave up only 12 goals the final 6 games of the week. The offense is led by AC spezza (2.38ppg and a league leading 8PP goals) and goingtodashow (3.14ppg). The crunch will need to stay on their toes in the stacked atlantic division in order to prevent themselves from falling behind.

6. Portland Pirates- The pirates came out of the gate with a strong showing led by AC tremblays strong week of 1.93gaa and a .846sv%. Although captain s1lentsn1pers has disappointed so far with only 1.17ppg, his team is finding ways to get the wins and thats all that really counts. Big signing oticz (2.29ppg) isnt putting up the kinds of numbers of others in his contract range and is missing his clubmates moja and krypt.

7. Hershey Bears- Glieden led the bears to a solid 5-2-1 opening week despite being in a stacked division. Despite not putting up as high of numbers as some other successful captains, glieden and twofour still find a way to win. The bears look to have found their goalie in recently acquired oriolerules who put up a 1.50gaa and a .900sv% for them. Look for the bears to be a sleeper in the east.

8. Norfolk Admirals- Deadlykush (2.57ppg) and mesposito (2.43ppg) bring their chemistry to the admirals and get off to a good 5-2 start. Fan favorite jtowne returns to NOR and doesnt let his fans down posting insane numbers of 1.96gaa and .872sv%.

9. Manchester Monarchs- The monarchs offense is off to a fast start, scoring the 3rd most goals in week 1 with 40, but they had trouble keeping the puck out of their own net allowing 30 goals. Talint played net for all 8 games and only put up a .694sv% which will need to improve for the monarchs to be able to take on some of the better teams. Frehzer (3.67ppg) led the way for the offense, but failed to prove he can produce at a high level against some of the better defensive teams, registering only 1 point against the pirates and none against the penguins.

10. Adirondack Phantoms- The Phantoms had a rough start to the season losing game 1 in 4OT and then game 2 in OT as well. The offense has not been consistent enough to get them wins and if blakfire continues to face more than 20 shots a game it could be a long season. Blakfire lived up to his contract in week 1 posting incredible numbers with a 1.90 gaa and a .886sv%. Once dalton fixes the phantoms offense, ARI looks to be a formidable foe.

11. Albany Devils- Sentinel returned to a tough first week in the stacked east. With 4 OT games and none of their losses over 2 goals, the devils put up a strong 9 points. Noskills had a solid week in net posting a .815sv% and looks to continue his good start with the help of sentinel in front of him. Unfortunately for the devils, week 2 looks to be an even tougher week, but expect the devils to give everyone a run for their money.

12. Rockford Ice Hogs- The ice hogs had a solid week 1, nothing special but nothing awful either. Captain echelon had a mediocre first week in net putting up a .750sv%.The ice hogs only gave up 13 shots a game so if echelon can find his game they look poised to have some success.

13. Binghamton Senators- The senators were another team that had an okay week 1 but definitely have room to improve. Captain snake-plisskin led the attack with 3.00ppg and AC wvupens put up a solid .816sv% in his 2 games in net, but their starting goalie tibod only managed a .763sv%. If tibod is to keep the starting job, he will need to put up some better numbers otherwise it might just be more beneficial to play wvupens in net.

14. Abbortsford Heat- The heat are another in the lines of captain goalies who underperformed in week 1. Captain disturbance and backup goalie awp-so-leet both posted only .711sv% in 3 games each. The offense scored the 4th most goals led by comeatme aka jor2good (3.38ppg). The heat need to tighten up defensively and not allow quite so much in their net and they should have a great chance to win a week north division.

15. Oklahoma City Barons- The barons look to rebound week 2 after some less than stellar goaltending performances to open the season. Word from the locker room says that G4 has adjusted his spreadsheets in order to raise his terrible week 1 .696sv%. The barons did however manage to hold opponents to just under 12 shots a game, so if captain papa-pilo can keep the workload easy of his goalies, they should be able to step up and make a few more key saves to keep the barons competitive.

16. Springfield Falcons- Despite their record, the falcons had a solid week, as all their losses came at the hands of quality teams. Factor in that the falcons are still looking for a goalie so that captain mrmvp can return up front to bolster the offense, and they certainly have potential. Even with mrmvp in net and only posting a .750sv%, the falcons still managed a goal differential of +4 and once they get a goalie look to be a contender in the west.

17. Grand Rapid Griffins- The griffins had some trouble week 1 without a real goalie on their roster. Bree had an okay week in net posting a .752sv%. Slapshot needs to up his 1.86ppg and the griffins need to get a goalie going forward if they look to improve in week 2.

18. Texas Stars- The stars opened the season with a disappointing week. Called by some the “top team on paper” in the west, they struggled to keep pace playing against some of the better teams in the ahl. Look for them to rebound on a much easier week 2 and for tmans .744sv% to jump up to a more expected level.

19. Bridgeport Sound Tigers- The sound tigers got off to a poor start week 1 giving up the 2nd most goals against and the 5th worst goals differential. The sound tigers will need to play much more solid on the back end in order to keep up in the stacked east. Mikeathoms .704sv% needs to go up drastically for the sound tigers to compete, and the front line needs to score more consistently as they were held to 1 or fewer goals in 4 games.

20. St. Johns Icecaps- The icecaps hold the bottom spot in week 1s toughest division, and got off to a 2-5-1 record against a tough schedule. Life doesnt get much easier for them week 2, and joker (.805sv% and 2 shutouts) will need a sharp week to carry his team. Big signing defman will need to put up more than 1.63ppg in order to earn his worth in st johns.

21. Utica Comets- Remington and caveman have their work cut out for them in week 2 as they look to rebound from an awful start to the season. A dismal week had them put up the 2nd fewest goals and have the 3rd worst goals differential. Silverstaples 1.17ppg does not at all live up to the expensive contract he is on, and goalie kevinbobo didnt have much better luck in net posting an unsatisfactory .692sv%.

22. Iowa Wild- While the wild had a rough start to the season, there is some hope. Despite getting blown out a couple times, 4 of the wilds 7 losses were only by 1 goal. If captain xygoodluckxy can continue to keep his team in games, some are bound to go their way and get them on track.

23. Toronto Marlies- With the fewest goals and the 3rd most goals against, the marlies couldn’t have gotten off to a much worse start. AC tabbs has been bombarded in net facing over 20 shots a game and putting up only average numbers with a .770sv%. The marlies will look to improve upon their -24 goal differential in week 2.

24. Providence Bruins- Word on the street is captain stcopley is trying to get his hands on some illegal pads to boost his sv% after a dismal .682 showing week 1. Not much went right for the Bruins as they gave up a league high 41 goals, had the 3rd fewest goals for, and posted the worst goal differential at -27.

NHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By: Viperman

Sunday May 4th

ANAHEIM DUCKS VS. ST LOUIS BLUES
Sunday night will bring us an intense game between the highly offensive Ducks and Blues. The Ducks have started off the season well with a solid 6-2 record, sitting closely behind the Stars for the Central Division lead, only one points behind. Leading the team is RiseoftheNinja and Mcleve913 who are both in the top 10 for scoring in the league. Rise and Mcleve are both tied for 8th in scoring, with 20 points each, and have proven to be a deadly duo up front early on. The Ducks are looking good on the scoring side, sitting at 8th in the league in goals for, but have really surprised people with their great goals against, sitting at 6th. AhL_Allstar-3 has played 6 games for the ducks and both his save % and GAA are very good. The Blues however, unlike the Ducks, have had a shaky start to their season. With such promise and potential heading into the first week, the Blues have only managed to go 4-4-0 in their first week and they are the only team that the Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets have managed to win against. With a solid goals for, they are sitting at 4th in league with 30 goals on the season so far, which have mostly been produced by BigYan__, who is T-2 in league points with 27. He has been helped by VegaRidge (T-8 with 20 points) and CCPiper (T-20 with 16 points). However, on the defensive side of things, the Blues are looking very weak. They are tied for the 3rd worst goals against which seems to be the major downfall of the promising Blues right now. Can the Blues turn it around with a better week? Can the Ducks continue the success? Find out in the first game of this exciting second week of VGHL!

Monday May 5th

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS VS. OTTAWA SENATORS
Both the Blue Jackets and the Senators are coming into this week with four wins. The Jackets have had a decent start to the season, proving some of the predictions wrong by having an even first week at a 4-4 record. They are tied for first in the division with 8 points. The offence seems to be their strong suit right now, at a respectable 7th in the league for goals for. In the other zone, not so much, they have given 31 goals up so far and are struggling in the back end, being tied for 3rd worst in goals against in the league. Led by XxMadMax94xX, who is at 5th in the league in points, with 24 of them, he seems to be single-handily carrying the offence with no other Blue Jacket in the top 40 in scoring. Jason_23 has been average for them in net. With mostly good depth and a couple stars, the Jackets have found a way to get a decent first week. The Senators came into the first week looking like one of the teams to beat, and they have been beaten, 4 times. A disappointing start for the highly talented Sens, as they have only managed to pull out 9 points in the first week. With no players in the top 25 for points or +/-, the Sens are not starting off the season the way they would have liked. 11th in goals for and 12th in goals against, they are in the middle of the pack as a team and I'm sure they would like nothing more then to be at the top. Mudd_Flaps and RustyTrombone7 are looking like the teams leading players at the moment. In the crease, Xx1DR_SWAGGER1xX has been doing his job with some top numbers as a goalie in the first week. This match-up will truly tell us a lot about both teams' future this season.

Wednesday May 07th

BOSTON BRUINS VS FLORIDA PANTHERS
The big bad bruins with an interesting first week, going 3-5. A team that is considered an early cup-contender, but in the first week they didn't look so good.  At only 16th in the league in scoring, they are lacking offence right now. Their best player, ovechkin8jr is at 20th in points with 16 and he has Slabaugh04 right with him, also with 16 points. However, they are both minuses. The Bruins are 6th worst in the league in goals against.. All the Bruins are minuses so far in the first week and the goal-tending has been average with Hi__Im__Norm leading the way. The Florida Panthers have had an incredible start to the season, as they are one of two undefeated (in regulation) teams left in the league. With an extremely impressive 6-0-2 record, they are 2nd in the league. They are only 14th in scoring, but  are tied at first in goals against with only 14 goals put in their net. With no players in the top 50 in scoring, they have heavily relied on their defence and goal-tending. Djones125 is second in defensive scoring and no players with a negative +/-. Roostaa has been incredible in net, with some insane numbers, and XzDEADLYxNASTYzX has been solid as well. This should be a good game, I'm expecting both teams to put out their top lines.

Thursday May 08th

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS VS. NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Two red-hot teams squaring off. Philadelphia who is one of the two still undefeated (in regulation) teams in the VGNHL are sitting pretty at first place. With a 7-0-1 record, they are led by Fluri37 who is T-2 in points in the league at 10 goals and 17 assists with a total of 27 points and 5th in +/- and SNIPESHOW_21 who is 7th in points with 11 goals and 10 assists combining for 21 points. The Flyers are tied for first in the league for goals for and have the second least goals against. VanillahGorilla has played all 8 games for the Flyers between the pipes and has had exceptional numbers. While on the other side of the puck stand the New Jersey Devils who were speculated to be a bottom team but have so far proven everyone wrong and gone on a tear in the first week with a 6-1-1 record. The Devils are fourth in the league, and also fourth in goals for, and 5th in goals against. They have no top 10 scorers but have had all the depth and team scoring to win 6 out of 8 games in the first week. The Devils goal tending has been superb with Nickx9710 at first in the league in GAA and save %, he has played 2 games and Balaia_JR has 3 games played, sitting at 8th in save % and 6th in GAA. This should be an exciting battle with two solid teams facing off.

AHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By:Mesposito12

Sunday

Wolves vs Admirals
Wolves are the last undefeted team in the West. Facing Norfolk twice on Sunday (one for a reschedule) this 1st game could be very important. The point that sticks out the most is the goaltending. The Wolves don’t seem to have a number 1 with three goalies playing in the 1st week. For Norfolk JTowNE41 played 3 games that he won all three, and faced 47 shots total in those 3 games. If Jtown can be the brick wall vs the all round power house of the wolves then we could see Norfolk taking it. Dieryck218 & homer4752 combine for 63 points on the offence side. deadlykush204 & Mesposito12 combine for only a total of 35 points. Look for these two to really pick it up. On the defensive side we see the top two points leaders
Xx_I-FEAR-N0-1xX & GoodFella146. Fear has 13 points to Fella’s 11. But Fella has 5 goals, and 6 assists. Fear has 12 assists and one goal.
Winner: Norfolk

Monday

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins vs Portland Pirates
The baby Pens are the last undefeated team in the East. But will the streak come to an end vs the Pirates? Baby Pens Captains ix-RaiN-iv & llXMalkin_71Xll combine for a total point of 48. The teams goal difference is 20 tied for 1st in the East. Pirates Captain xS1LENT_SN1PERSx has 7 points in 6 games, and Assistant captain tremblay77_7 went 5-1 in 6 games. Oticz leads the Pirates in goals with 11. If they want to take down the baby pens Oticz and S1lent are going to have to step up.
Winner: Pens

Wednesday

Stars vs Heat
will be a very good game, Stars are lead by leading scorer ryno1354 who has 13 points in 6 games. The Head leader scorer Come-_-At-_-Me_- who recorded 27 points in 8 games for the 1st week. Goaltender T-MAN-13-RHP looks to come back with a strong week. In the 1st week he went 2-4 with a GGA of 3.34, and a SV% of .744. With a player like Come-_-At-_-Me_- who can “light the lamp” if he gets hot. Texas will also have to stop DrewDangles who in 4 games got 10 points. If you can shut down Come-_-At-_-Me_- then Texas should have no problem beating the Heat.
Winner: Texas

Thursday

Bears vs Rampage
The 7-0-1 Rampage look to once again beat the Bears. But with the last game only being decided by one goal, this should be a good one. Rampage are lead by non other then Class_Act_27 who had 29 points in 8 games. For the Bears leading the team is twoATRfour who has 18 points in 8 games. The key to winning the game for the Bears is to shut down Class Act, but that is a lot easier said then done. Class Act will try to do his thing, and put the puck in the net and lead his team to the win. If Goaltenders S_3TH-98 or oriolerules44 will have to be a brick wall to keep the bears in the game. Its up to Captain sglieden19 to choose who he puts in.
Winner: Rampage

NHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
By:L_P1mp1N

Hi everyone, and thanks for coming to read Week 1 of Season 9's Player of the Week!

Im going to be doing things a little differently than what has been done in the past. Were going to be making more of a Team of the Week. We will be voting on 1 player for each position and making a weekly "all-star" team.

Left Wing: You-Madd-broo 8gp 15g 8a +1 4ppg 1shg 2gwg

Having you-madd-broo as our pick for starting LW this week was a no-brainer. He's putting up amazing numbers on a team that is sitting in 6th right now in the west (5-3-0). If he can keep putting up these kind of numbers, I think thats going to result in Edmonton moving up in the standings.

Honorable mentions: Reject-reaperz, riseoftheninja

Center: Fluri37 8gp 10g 17a +15 1gwg

Let's be honest... when you're playing on a team as hot as the Philadelphia Flyers (7-0-1) is right now, you had better be putting up numbers like Fluri37 is right now. Their team is clicking really well early on, and if that continues, I think I'll be putting his name here alot this season.

Honorable mentions: kylej83, vegaridge

Right Wing: Get-on-ur-knees 6gp 17g 9a +18 7ppg 2gwg

When you have someone like get-on-ur-knees up front scoring goals all game.. and a brick wall behind you making all the saves.. its almost always going to result in wins. Well Dallas is certainly doing this. Look for the duo of get-on-ur-knees and reject reaperz to make alot of defenses pay.

Honorable mentions: bigyan, snipeshow_21

Left defense: VxWoytkiw8xv 7gp 3g 6a +20 1ppg 1shg

There were quite a few really solid LD's that stepped up in week 1, but it was impossible to ignore that VxWoytkiw8xv was the clear front-runner. That +20 is just unreal. If him and my-glove-ull-luv keep it up with Rally behind them, its gonna be really tough for any offense to score with him on the ice.

Honorable mentions: Karlsson-mvp, Alchy-ops

Right defense: djones125 8gp 4g 8a +6 2ppg 3gwg

Djones125 has clearly had a great week. Shutting down offenses, while also pitching in with some great numbers of his own. His team has come out strong (6-0-2) and Im sure he's a big part of the reason for their success. If he can keep it up, I expect to see some very respectable numbers from him.

Honorable mentions: My-glove-ull-luv, pucku33

Goalie: Vanillahgorilla 8gp 7w 1l 1.69GAA .873sv% 2SO

Goaltender was the hardest of all the positions to choose. In the end Vanillah was definately the best in week 1. 7 wins and 1 loss, while also having the 2nd highest amount of shots against.

Honorable mentions: Penguins2013, Danger_rally

Thank you all for taking the time out of your busy seasons to read this. Please come back next week for my week 2 Team of the Week.

AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

By:xstcopleyx

Forward:

It was a long opening week, however one forward stood on top of the rest.  Getzlaf9915 scored an outstanding 5.38 points per game.  His 43 points and 54% faceoff win percentage helped boost the Americans to a 6-2-0 record this week.  3 out of his 19 goals were game winners, showing that he was not only the top scorer in the league this week and so far this season, but also Mr.Clutch when it counted.

Defense:

GoodFella146 put up a huge +/- of 19 this week.  He had 0 hits, but who needs those when people can’t score goals on you?  He helped on the scoring too with 1.57 ppg finishing 5th in defensive scoring this week.  all of this work has kept chicago 7-0-0 so far this season with 1 game to make up still.  GoodFella146 has proven that he is good enough to carry his team here.  Let’s see if he keeps it up.

Goalie:

After an outstanding first night in net, opening with a 4 OT game, HITMAN1342 kept up the work this opening week with an overall .850 save percentage and a 6-0-0 record.  His GAA was only 1.64, boosting the Baby Penguins to an 8-0-0 record on the season.  Will anyone surpass his goaltending?

Special Thanks: thegdawg34

(Pimp) Hey gdawg, I'd just like to start by saying thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me.

(Gdawg) No problem, glad to help.

(Pimp) How are you adjusting to being the GM/owner, as opposed to being an AHL C?

(Gdawg) Good so far. Its mainly just dealing with a little bit better players, with way bigger ego's. Fortunately for us, we don't have that problem in Calgary

(Pimp) First off I would like to say congratulations on winning the S8 Calder cup running Rockford. Thats no easy feat. I know the question on my mind, and Im sure alot of the league, how do you plan to use your success as a Calder cup champion, and transfer that into a successful season in the NHL?

(Gdawg) Thank you, it was alot of work to put together a team like we had in Rockford. At the same time, with the same philosophies, bring in the best possible players and focus as a team on what we need to do day in and day out to win games.

(Pimp) Where do you feel your team is strongest?

(Gdawg) Offensively. We have a surplus of very skilled forwards that enjoy playing together. They communicate really well with each other, and I think they're going to put up great numbers.

(Pimp) Okay, where do you feel you are weakest?

(Gdawg) Chemistry. Its still very early, but as long as we all work towards the same goal and communicate effictively, we should stay on the same page come game time.

(Pimp)  What are you thoughts on your division this season?

(Gdawg) I feel like its going to be a very well matched division. Edmonton may look to have the slight edge, but to me its a toss up for now.

(Pimp) As the season is about to begin, where do you think your team will finish in the standings?

(Gdawg)  I see us near the top in the west. A 3-6 seed come playoff time wouldnt surprise me at all.

(Pimp) Which team do you feel poses the biggest threat to you this season?

(Gdawg) Ourselves. A lot of good teams have trouble keeping it together over the course of a long season and playoff run. As long as we stay confident and keep thinking positive, I think we'll have a great productive season.

(Pimp) Explain your reasons behind choosing F0R3IGN_0BJ3KT as your C this season.

(Gdawg) -Well foreign is a great defenseman who's been around and knows what it takes to win.  When I found out he was interested it was a no brainer. Great leader on and off the ice as well.

(Pimp) Which of your players do you feel will make the biggest splash this season?

(Gdawg) Very tough for a GM to answer, but lets just say we're going to be looking to our captain and our goalie to put up career numbers this season if we want to go far.

Well I'd like to personally thank thegdawg34 for taking time out of his busy off-season to do this interview with me. Hopefully you all enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. See you all on the ice!!!

NHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By: Viperman

Sunday, April 27th 2014

CALGARY FLAMES vs EDMONTON OILERS
The opening night in the VGHL with many new players, management, and teams. An exciting night with first looks at all 24 NHL teams. Two of those teams, the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers, will be squaring off in the Battle of Alberta. Both teams seeing new management, both of these two teams have something to prove as neither are obvious teams in terms of playing ability. This game could be a real test for the Oil and Flames to show the league what they got.
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: OILERS

Monday, April 28th 2014

ST. LOUIS BLUES vs DETROIT RED WINGS
Two early cup contenders and divisional rivals. One of the biggest debates of the late off-season is who will take the division, the Blues or Wings. Both are very well built teams with lots of depth and star players. Both teams will be playing Columbus and Chicago before this so this will be the biggest test so far for the teams. This should be an exciting game with all the fire power on these two teams.
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: REDWINGS

Wednesday, April 30th 2014

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS VS TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
A couple interesting teams facing off. In Philly we got a possible cup contender and in Toronto we got a wild card team in a tough division. Since all other games of the week so far have been considered early season tests, why not continue the trend. In this game we will see what the Flyers really got. Can they be a top team in season 9? While the Maple Leafs will be proving whether they can hold their own in such a good division and make a playoff run.
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: FLYERS

Thursday, May 1st 2014

BOSTON BRUINS vs NEW YORK ISLANDERS
A match up that some might say will have an obvious winner but don't count out the Islanders. Another test for both teams. For Boston, it will be, can they live up to the hype? As a cup contender to most people, they have to win this game to prove they can really do it. While on the other side there are the Islanders, who have been speculated to have a long rough season, but if they can pull out a win against the Bruins, they might have a chance to prove everyone wrong.
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: ISLANDERS

AHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By: AHL News Team

Sunday, April 27th 2014

Manchester Monarchs vs. Texas Stars
This game may be the most talked about game ever in VGAHL history. As division rivals this matchup will be a marquee one all season. Big mouth Frehzer (AC for Manchester) and the Texas Stars have been going at it for a few weeks now. Cupidstunt has assembled a team she feels has the chance to be a cup contender, here is her thoughts “I think the game should be a lot of fun. Will definitely be interesting to see how our team works together against one of the predicted top teams.” While on the flipside former Memorial Cup Champion, and owner of the S7 London Knights, T-MAN-13-RHP Is looking to continue his success as an owner. T-MAN has assembled what is regarded as one of the best teams on paper, and with his track record (Memorial Cup Champion Owner 63-10-7, and a Silver Medal at the recent WC3) there is no doubt he will be coming to win. He had this to say about this matchup, “We aren’t facing a team… It’s strictly just Freh and anyone who thinks otherwise, well you are blind.”
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: STARS

Monday, April 28th 2014

Syracuse Crunch vs. Albany Devils
The Crunch are led by llXBoychuk_55Xll and llXSpezza_19Xll. The Crunch Captains are coming off a very successful season in Lake Erie and are looking to continue their success and hopefully dominate the East. Standing in their way is the Albany Devils. Albany led by lll_SENTINEL_lll and Maze_z8 are looking to return to the Calder Cup again this season. Neither team were available to comment on their game, but one thing to note, with both teams being primarily built on defense you could see a very low scoring game.
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: CRUNCH

Wednesday, April 30th 2014

Hershey Bears vs. Adirondack Phantoms
This game has an intriguing story line behind it, as you will see two captains who are returning for their second season. One with the same organization, and the other has packed his bags and went to work for the Sobo’s. That’s right, sglieden19 and xS7LENT_SN7PERSx are back ladies and gents. Cute little story line, but let’s get to the matchup at hand. Hershey is coming in as an underdog of sorts according to the preseason write up, but that doesn’t stop the bears from wanting to prove the “haters” wrong. Sglieden19 had this to say about his matchup, “Dalton has put together a good group of players in ADK so it will be challenging to come away with 2 points.” On the other bench you will see the leagues favorite ginger and that’s xS7LENT_SN7PERSx. He and his assistant plastic_world have put together a very solid squad for this upcoming season. Dalton was unable to be reached for a comment but expect a tight matchup.
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: PHANTOMS

Thursday, May 1st 2014

Abbotsford Heat vs. San Antonio Rampage
Abbotsford is coming into this game an underdog. San Antonio is regarded as one of the toughest teams in the league and rightfully so. Class_Act_27 has put together a very solid team and if you add him and his AC dankchank, you are asking for trouble. When I asked Class on his thoughts about Abbotsford and the game at hand he simply said “Abbotsford sucks.” Some strong words from the SAR Captain. Let’s look at Abbotsford. They have enough scoring, and with SamoanLaxer818 it really shouldn’t be an issue. Captain of the Heat Disturbance420 had this to say “I know this game is going to be a tough one! My defense will need to shut down class_act and dankchank to be successful, i know it’s going to be a good game.” Expect this to be a very high scoring affair.
NEWS TEAM PREDICTION: RAMPAGE

Seventy-three days have passed between the final buzzer of Season Eight sounded which brought about the reign of the Dallas Stars as Stanley Cup Championship and the league is finally on the cusp of Season Nine.
The GM's have been appointed, captains named, camps ran, the bidding has been done, and no less than nine Preseason Previews have made the rounds on the forums, all of which to keep players distracted as they await the first puck drop of what will likely be the last season of the current Gen console.
Opening night brings divisional matchups, a chance to renew rivalries for veteran GM's and establish new ones for the rookie GM's amongst us.
Let's take a look at the Opening Night games and see which division rivalries look to be the most interesting games on the schedule.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

The Atlantic Division offers us a potential Game of the Night in its 9:30 matchup putting the Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins. This is a game that could be decided by the goaltending and could give either team a lot of confidence going forward. Everyone knows the best way to win your division is to win the season series' against your division. The winner of this game gets the early season edge.

The Southeast Division has Tampa Bay and their 11-million dollar acquisition take on both the Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals on the opening night docket. While the Panthers/Lightning game could be good, the matchup that seems most interesting is the Washington game as it puts a top-end goalie in Mesmerize-_- against what some believe will be an offensively challenged Washington team. If Washington can score some goals it will go a long way towards quieting the critics early. If not, however, then Mes could begin his Vezina Campaign with a bang on opening night.

The Northeast Division sees the defending Eastern Conference Champions Ottawa Senators start their season against what could be a very surprising team in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Most previews have as many as three teams making the playoffs from this division and Ottawa's matchups against Toronto and Boston on opening night could be one of those early season balance of power shifts mentioned earlier.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

The Pacific Division's marquee match up (Dallas vs. Phoenix) is slated for Monday, however, that does not mean that the opening night match ups are without intrigue. The LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks, two teams widely expected to miss the playoffs, could find some level of confidence if they put up a good showing on Opening Night. While an upset isn't out of the question, what we're more likely to see Phoenix and Dallas start the season 2-0 setting the stage for their first tilt the following day.

The Central Division also offers its marquee match up (St.Louis vs. Detroit) on Monday and it is expected the other teams won't be very good this season (as far as the Previews all state). None of the match ups feel Game of the Night worthy but if Columbus' goalie (Hail_2TheVictors) can steal one it will make for a great story in what will likely be an otherwise disappointing night for hockey in the Central markets. The biggest intrigue might be exactly how good Chicago will be. The preview writers haven't come to a consensus on whether this team will be good or not and it will be interesting to see how Exclamation and Acro fair against some really good teams.

The Northwest Division has Edmonton vs. Calgary followed by Edmonton vs. Minnesota, all teams that are said to be probable (or at least potential) playoff teams. Calgary, with their 10m goalie, Minnesota with their considerably cheaper tandem,  and Edmonton with their strong defensive core and potential big line scorers. These games could all be snoozers, at the very least none have much of a David vs. Goliath feel to them (unless Vancouver makes a move) but it will be interesting to see which of these three manages to jump out front early.

Each division has something to offer on opening night, whether it be a clash between titans, like the Atlantic, or a chance for teams to prove themselves, like the Southeast and Northeast, or the potential for major upsets, such in the case of the Central or Pacific.
Every team hopes to put the balance of power firmly on their side early. And while no opening night game will truly decide which teams make the playoffs it shouldn't surprise anyone to see teams make big, team changing trades in preparation for puck drop, or if the opening night (or week) doesn't go as planned.
It's never too early to make your team better to play a division rival.

AHL

After a long season, ending with Rockford winning the cherished Calder Cup, opening night is upon us once again and everyone is pumped to see that first puck drop on the bright white ice.
There are a lot of new faces in the AHL this year from both the PHL and NHL making for a lot of exciting games especially here on opening night with divisional matchups underway.  These games could shape the season for some teams.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

The Atlantic Division starts off with a huge game consisting of the San Antonio Rampage at the Syracuse Crunch.  This game should be a high scoring battle of the offenses with former NHL’er Class_Act_27 leading San Antonio, and llX_Spezza_19Xll doing the scoring for the Crunch.  Expect this one to be close to the very end giving the winning team the early spotlight in the conference becoming the team to beat.

The East Division offers quite the opening night as we’ll division rivals Providence, and Toronto set to play one another. The Marlies will host Providence on opening night.  Based on the AHL rankings, Providence and Toronto were ranked 3rd and 4th in the Eastern Conference, making this game the big one to watch.  Rumors have been surrounding the Marlies lately as sources say some of the players from their roster (including top forward xLeGenDaRyy-) are inactive this season. Will the Marlies make a splash in the trade market? Only time will tell.  Players to watch will be x0xVictoriousx0x on the Bruins, and Tabbs85 in net for the Marlies.  On the other hand, opening night is very crucial to these teams as they look to pull ahead early in the divisional standings.

The Northeast Division brings in a HUGE game 2 match up between the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins and the Albany Devils.  The most talked about team in the AHL vs last year’s runner up captain both look to take down each other on opening night, declaring their dominance in the East.  This will be a game of Albany’s defense trying to shut down the Penguins huge offense.  The winner of this game might just become the team to beat in the entire AHL.

WESTERN CONFERENCE:

The Midwest Division is a toss up for all 4 teams.  The most anticipated game of opening night for this division has to be in game 2 with the Springfield Falcons at the Chicago Wolves.  Springfield looks to be an above average team all around, which could make for a tough team to beat.  I’m assuming ziplock421 will be manning that vacant LW spot while oriolerules44 will be in net.  As for Chicago, people think this team is going to do better than I originally thought.  They look to be a powerhouse offensively with Dieryck218 on RW, but can their goaltending hold up against the Falcons?  It will be a close game trying to get that early edge.

The North Division brings together a couple of teams that couldn't be more opposite from one another.  The Abbotsford Heat have HUGE offensive ability at the wings.  Their offense is led by PHL star Come-_-At-_-Me_- (A.K.A. Jor2Good).  Will it be enough to get around the defensive core manned by Papa-Pilo and M_Sherba_12 and score on the Spreadsheet Master g4threepwood?  This game will be determined by who has the most stamina and concentration, and will probably decide who the more composed team will be for the remainder of the season.

The West Division brings the most talked about opening game of any league.  There has been tweet after tweet between these two teams.  Who started the talking?  We may never know.  But we do know this.  There will be a tremendous tension in the air when the puck drops in the Manchester Monarchs at Texas Stars game this Sunday night.  Which side will emerge victorious and back up all of the talking that has been done by both sides?  Assistant Captain of the Monarchs Frehzer looks to put on a “LAZER SHOW” (He must enjoy the letter z), while Texas captain T-MAN-13_RHP looks to put an end to all of this talk with his work in net.  It is a definite game of the week contender, while both of these teams try to best each other and back up all of the talk.

All teams are looking to prove something this opening night.  Whether it is an edge over their division rivals, or just proving that they are able to compete.  Every team wants to win, and looks to do so in all of these games.  It will be interesting to see who can come out on top as we begin this long awaited season.

Interview with Ix-RaiN-iv.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx has been a busy man. He recently interviewed Class, and now he is onto another former NHLer Ix-RaiN-iv.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Hello ix-RaiN-iv, thank you for taking the time out to do this interview with me. How are you doing tonight?

Ix-RaiN-iv - No problem, I'm good just chilling! Happy that my exams are finally over and done with though.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Cool man. First things first. For the people who DON'T know. Why did you make the decision to jump from being a top NHL player to being an AHL Captain?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Basically I guess it takes more than two seasons of being a captain in the league. Technically I was PNC's Assistant in S7 when we won the Calder and his Captain of Phoenix last season. But everyone pays their dues to work their way up, I suppose this is just the route I have to take to become an NHL GM that.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Most people know what you bring to the table talent wise. Do you think you have more of an advantage from being a top NHL talent?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Oh for sure. My magical thumbs possess such talent, that it even scares people like Class Act. However I will say, I was at a disadvantage when it came to bidding just for the fact I had no idea who anyone was from PHL/AHL last season. Malk and I spent a lot of late nights developing scouting sheets with list of players we were interested in or targeting.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - What do you think is the biggest difference from the AHL to NHL jump? Ex. Puck Movement, Playing Style, Talent itself, etc.

Ix-RaiN-iv - Immediately the difference is talent pool. Playing style, in the NHL the defense is a lot deeper on the depth chart. The defense knows how to stop top offences by shutting down the neutral zone. Also breaking out of your own end can be the biggest differences when comparing NHL to AHL

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - What is your main goal this season?

Ix-RaiN-iv - My goal this season is simple. Dominate. Dominate the standings, gameplay, offensively, defensively. Just purely stand out from amongst the rest. Majority of people know who I am, and know who Malkin is. I'm expecting to be playing every teams #1 lineup each and every night. So what makes a better statement then to dominate a team’s top lineup night in and night out?

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Well this question may be a little redundant than. But do you think the road to the Calder will be challenging, or do you feel the season will be a breeze?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Really depends on how things go throughout the season. For example, some players from my roster have already expressed that they want to make the jump to NHL. My goal as a captain is to give my NHL team the best possible opportunity to win a cup. Whether or not Smoke and Jeff decide to call up a few of my players will be the question. After all when facing adversity it's all about how you respond to different situations. I'm sure the AHL will bring its challenges, but no offence to anyone, I only see two teams who really have a chance for the Calder... and they’re both in the Eastern Conference

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - How do you think your division stacks up to the rest of the divisions in the league? Do you think you are in one of the tougher divisions?

Ix-RaiN-iv - I would have to say it's one of the toughest. Sentinel in Albany will be looking to bounce of the success of last year and head back to the Calder finals. Bridgeport I believe is a sleeper and probably one of the more underrated teams this season.
Then you and the Phantoms, still questionable because I personally believe your goaltending isn't the strongest, but hey it's a long season and anything can happen.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Who do you see as your biggest threat this season?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Tbh everyone's expecting me to say San Antonio but imo Class's team is awful. I think Syracuse will be one of the teams to beat once they adjust their goaltending situation.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Out of ALL the AHL players. Who do you see having a breakout season?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Other than myself lol? Umm obviously Class is up there, but offensively I think RadyJr from my roster will be looking to light it up this season. He went to numerous camps and was disappointed he was only worth .750M.
After playing with Malk and I, Rady fits the puzzle well. Essentially Rady is the Patrickisonfire of S7!

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Where do you see yourself on the STAT leaderboards this season?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Stats wise I will put up good numbers. Malk and I have that instant chemistry and hopefully twine and rady balance the lines out. I'm not looking to put up points , if I do great, I'm looking to put up W's because at the end of the day, that's what's counts

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - You have been talking about him quite often, Why did you choose Malkin a your AC

Ix-RaiN-iv - Despite what people may think of him because of his ego and arrogance which tend to get in the way, Malk (once you get to know him) is a solid guy. He's the only reason I made a name for myself in 6s hockey. At one point I was a god awful player back in 12 and Malk basically taught me everything I know.
He was the only one who was patient enough to teach me moves and skills that could better myself as a player and become a threat on the right wing. Sure I picked up a few tricks of my own once I played more but I owe a lot to Malk. I believe malk and I have been friends for about 2 and a half years , and the chemistry has always instantly been there, so that's why I chose him. Also we both put ourselves in a good position to win another Calder

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx – Who are you most looking forward to play this season?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Doesn't really matter to me, just looking forward to getting the season started.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx – What is your dream matchup for the Calder Cup this season?

Ix-RaiN-iv - Atm would have to be the best team on paper. In my opinion the best team on paper from the West is Texas. I think T and Ryno put a great team together. They have lots of depth up and down the roster. Where they could fall apart is if T plays every game in net. I know in playoffs when I was Pnc's captain, sometimes Pnc was off his game and there was no true back up to help take pressure off. But regardless I'd like to see Texas for the fact T and I were captains of the Silver Medalist team in the World Cup.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx – Well that wraps it up. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview, and good luck this season.

Ix-RaiN-iv - Thanks Dalton! Good luck this season buddy, can't wait to play you and your Phantoms

Interview with Class_Act_27.

Recently xS7LENT_SN7PERSx, was able to get a hold of the great Class_Act_27, and get some answers to many questions the VGHL Community have been waiting to hear.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Hello Class_Act_27 Thank you for taking your time out to have this interview with me. How are you?

Class_Act_27 - I'm doing well, thanks. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - First thing is first. For the people who don't know. Why did you make the jump from a top NHL player to AHL captain?

Class_Act_27 - Well, it's simple. I am looking to apply to be a NHL owner for next season and what better way to prove yourself than in the AHL. I've been considered a rager or a dick by some in the league. I'd like to prove that I can keep my cool while running a successful AHL team. Hopefully I can also bring my talent down to the AHL and help some of the prospects prosper for when they make the jump to the NHL. I was lucky enough to have Balla allow me to take over her AHL team and I’d like to thank her for that.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Most people know what you bring to the table talent wise. Do you think you have more of an advantage from being a top NHL talent?

Class_Act_27 - Not at all, I honestly feel as though I am at a disadvantage because I don't know the talent pool down here in the AHL and one guy can't carry a team. That's why when I see guys get bid up to 7M I sit there and wonder why someone would instantly end their season by putting out a bid of that large of an amount on one player. Luckily I have the pleasure of working with my close buddy dankchank who was down here in the AHL all of last season. Most of the players we bid on were his call and he deserves credit. If I were alone I would be at a disadvantage, but with dank helping me out I feel I am at a level playing field with everyone else.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - What do you think is the biggest difference from the AHL to NHL jump? Ex. Puck Movement, Playing Style, Talent itself, etc.

Class_Act_27 - I don't see much of a difference after playing some draft games with some AHLers. The community as a whole (EASHL or league) plays the same dangling and off the rush one timers kind of style except for a select few who don't. There definitely is a difference in the amount of talent, but that's to be expected of course.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - What is your main goal this season?

Class_Act_27 - To run a successful team and that just doesn't mean winning. I want to keep everyone on my team happy and also not have any issues with the league or staff. You won't see a DC tweet with myself or SA Rampage being mentioned once this season. I want to win, I am one of the most competitive people you will ever meet. I've raged at more people in this league during a game than I can count on my two hands. At the end of the day though my job is to help my guys become better players while showing them how fun VGHL can be.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Do you think the road to the Calder will be challenging, or do you feel the season will be a breeze?

Class_Act_27 - Making the playoffs will be easy, but it's never easy winning anything.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - How do you think your division stacks up to the rest of the divisions in the league? Do you think you are in one of the tougher divisions?

Class_Act_27 - Hard to say this early on. For all I know I could have all Calder contenders in my division. We aren't afraid of anyone and these regular season games are just 82 OTP games for us. It doesn't matter where you finish as long as you are in the playoffs. Performance only matters in the playoffs and that's how a #8 seed can beat a #1 seed.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Who do you see as your biggest threat this season?

Class_Act_27 - I'm not sure, but I'll say the Baby Penguins since that seems to be what everyone is saying around the AHL. We won't know for sure until the season progresses towards the end.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Out of ALL the AHL players. Who do you see having a breakout season?

Class_Act_27 - I'd have to go with ma g00n and main man Kieley from Syracuse. Solid dman and a great guy to have on the mic. Probably one of the best g00nz in the game.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Where do you see yourself on the STAT leaderboards this season?

Class_Act_27 - I see myself among the top for points, but if I don't end up being there I couldn't care less. I don't think I have to prove to anyone in this league that I am a skilled player. I have never cared about my personal stats, I maybe checked my stats three times in total over the course of last season. It was cool breaking Hemmertime's record of most assists in a single season, but I was more worried about helping the Sens get to the cup finals. Stats don't always show how good or bad a player is either. There are players everywhere who have bad stats but are actually good players and vice versa.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx - Why did you choose Dankchank as your AC for this upcoming season?

Class_Act_27 - I chose Dank because he was here last season and knew the talent. I needed someone that I knew I could trust with picking talent for our squad. He was a great player that would've been a solid pick at C for any NHL team. I'm lucky he was looking to play alongside myself, so I was lucky to be able to snag him up. He easily could have been picked up in the NHL and I’d like to thank him for choosing to work alongside myself this season. So far he has done a great job and has helped take some of the pressure off my shoulders. I have no regrets.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx – Who are you most looking forward to play this season?

Class_Act_27 - Everyone. I look forward to seeing some of the talent that lives down here in the AHL, it will definitely make for some great games. Or anyone that is known for being a rager. I expect to get a few rage PM's over Skype here and there. Maybe even hand out a career ending loss to one poor AHL soul.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx – What is your dream matchup for the Calder Cup this season?

Class_Act_27 - Well, SA Rampage finish the season #1. We beat up on all the teams in the East ending their season. Then, hopefully the #8 seed makes it to the Calder Cup. We then sweep them and I can finally be officially crowned KING. Hookers will then be called for all my teammates. I will be sure to call a midget for dankchank since he is into those type of women.

xS7LENT_SN7PERSx – Thank you for your time and good luck this season!

Class_Act_27 - Thanks for the opportunity to talk about my greatness. Good luck to everyone this season.  -KING

Eastern Conference:

Atlantic:

San Antonio Rampage - This team is led by the dynamic duo of Class_Act_27, and dankchank. There was some controversy about letting Class come down to the AHL, but it shouldn’t be a problem. At forward you see Class at LW and Dank at C. Joining them you could see boogi, one_atom, JJ and josh. On the blue line, they have their highest payroll player in cptnamrica along with karlsson_6_5_, One_atom and JJ. In net they don’t have a clear #1 in between the pipes, but I see three goalies on the squad. Those three include, JoshuaDuhaime, chicks-n-whips, Golia7h33. Captain of San Antonio, Class_Act had this to say, “My team is the Destroyers of AHLers plain and simple. We know it, they know it, and everyone knows it. There isn't a team out there that my guys are afraid of.”

Syracuse Crunch - this season is led by captain llX_Boychuk_55Xll and with assistant llX_Spezza_19Xll. This team is not going to have any problems scoring goals with llX_Spezza_19Xll , gointodashow71 and capsrock1. On defense with llX_Boychuk_55Xll , dougie1218 and KIELEY they will probably have one of the best defensive cores in the league, if not the best! The only thing that may hurt them this season is there goaltending with JetterIsbetter and sirpaco13, but with the offence and defense they have they should get a lot of wins.

Hershey Bears - this season are led by sglieden19 with assistant twoATfour. Looks like there team is going to be led by sglieden19, twoAtfour , Cpt_Scooby and Pistolpete7788. I hope PistolPete7788 can hold up to his tweet last week about being one of the best wingers in the game... On Defense they have pretty good depth there with Bruiser781 , Reamy12 and xX_Nitro_Xx_, this team won't have any problems with their goaltending with S_3th-98 and colton287 solid, should win them games. Captain Sglieden believes his team will have a successful season, “My team is pretty well rounded. We landed one of the best FA goalies available in S_3th98 he should be solid throughout the season. Our defense should be dependable with Reamy and Colton back there for now and our offense should hit the ground running with the experience us Fwds already have together.”

St. John’s Ice Caps - With viperman29 moving up to the NHL to fill a vacant captain’s spot, JOKER554 takes over the reins. Joker selected gobelet_30 who is has converted from a G to C/RD for this upcoming season. Defman902 is their big man up front with forwards jsenecal0, scardface77 up front. The weakness for this team will be that they lack a true scorer, they have decent D and a decent G. We will see what happens this season.

East:

Toronto Marlies - Toronto is led by Captain J-Stephens and assistant Tabbs. This team looked to go for depth up front with xLeGenDaRyy-, rineer, leafsrule, jmwalsh, and spiderfrommars. The blue line for this team looks to be the weak spot. After spending cap on forwards J-Stephens didn’t find a standout D Partner. If the defense holds in front of a good goalie in Tabbs this team could go pretty far. J-Stephens had this to say to reporters, "We have a solid core with good depth. We are a playoff team, now we need to make it happen."

Providence Bruins – The Mini Bruins bring a new look this season with Captain xstcopleyx bidding on two decent wingers in I2-Saad-0I and Nick7prae to play on the sides of AC X0XVictoriousX0X. The big question here will be how two primary LD’s in M_u_r_p_h_y_87 and Txviper play in front of Copley. Former Texas Stars goalie in S8 xstcopleyx had this to say, “I think we have a very solid team put together and plan on being on the top 1/4 of the league.”

Rochester Americans – Lead by Captain Getzlaf and AC Calmdeathclaw this team has little room for error. With spending a lot of cap this team better of got it right first or they will struggle. JoshB playing up front with these 2 will be some good fire power, but the rest of the team looks to be a jumble of question marks and cap.

Binghampton Senators – Lead by former NHL’er, Plisskin looks to build a strong team with AC WVU7_PENS87. PEI1LIQUOR_STORE being a big pickup will help this team’s offensive jolt. No question that Tibod is one of the better Goalies in the league. The defense doesn’t look too bad either with gooberdude playing by WVU7’s side. This team should have some success.

Northeast:

Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are being leading ix-RaiN-iv and llXMalkin_71Xll. When the people saw that these two where teaming up to be in the AHL there was a small pause. With names like D_assassin23, xTWINE_THRASHERx, and Urine_Trouble19 this team looks to be a top team. ix-RaiN-iv and llXMalkin_71Xll look to dominate the east, but can the team around them step up, and come together as one? Former NHL Captain ix-RaiN-iv had this to say, “Myself and Malkin built from the net out. Our offence will be there, so our primary concern was defense and goaltending. Expect Hitman1342 to start 95% of our games and with a great D core in D_Assassin and Bigdog3382, not many scoring chances will be given to our opposition. I can't give you a prediction to how will finish the season, but I can guarantee when teams look at their schedules and see they're playing Wilkes-Barre, teams will know they’re in for a tough night. Expect us to bring it night in and night out.”

Adirondack Phantoms - led by xS7LENT_SN7PERSx and Plastic_World, two experienced captains. They are going to lead a 12 man roster, with names like BlaKFire6616, scyther808, czechmate_, and G0DLSN0WHERE. BlaKFire6616 is their number one goalie, last year BlaKFire6616 had a very good season, and if he can play at the high of level like he did last year then the Phantoms will be great. This team looks like a strong all around team. The leagues favorite ginger, xS7LENT_SN7PERSx, had this to say “With it being my second year running this great team I learned a lot. I came out swinging this season and feel that the team I picked is going to be scary. It’s time to bring the Phantoms to a Calder Cup.”

Bridgeport Sound Tigers - led by gatorsdynasty24 and floetik83, they are running a 10 man roster, they have names like NL-RedWings-Fan, STICKYFINGERS604, Mikeathom, and Maniac_Jester. This team looks like a solid all-around team, but if you had to pick out one name it would be Mikeathom. He had a very solid PHL season, but the switch was a little touchy. If he can play like he did in the PHL the Sound Tigers will be just fine. Gatrorsdynasty24 the leader of the Sound Tigers had this to say, "I like the balance of the team and all of our attitudes. Going to be a great season! "

Albany Devils - led by last year runner up captain lll_SENTINEL_lll, and his new assistant captain Maze_z8. Spending 4m on BossRoss12. If Ross plays and his availability doesn’t affect the team they should do fine this season. llBringThePainll should back him up on the left side. But with 4 main positions LW how will this affect the backup LW for Ross. No_Skills18 the only G on the team will look to be a brick wall in net with lll_SENTINEL_lll in front of him. Instead of commenting on his squad, he looked elsewhere, towards his division rivals “Too early to tell but the Rain and Malkin combo will be strong competition this season"

Western Conference:

Midwest:

Chicago Wolves - Led by LD Goodfella146 with assistant Homer4752 starting at Center, this team seems to have a strong base.  It seems that WarBC is going to hold down the fort at RD as goodfella’s partner.  While it looks like krilla92 and chadzbadd will be splitting time in net.  As for the forward line they have the 6.25 million dollar man in the form of Dieryck218 holding down the RW spot with MillerMatt at LW.  It will be interesting to see how this team enters the PHL bidding after dieryck’s contract is moved to the NHL.

Grand Rapid Griffins – Bree, long time AHL Captain of the Monarchs, takes a jump over to Grand Rapid tagging along as her AC is Iowa’s C Slapshot. Sitting at just under 10 mil cap and 10 players. I foresee some PHL stars being bid on in the future. As of right now. The team looks to be on the weak side. Physics and Slapshot will have to be key in scoring. The Griffins will have a rocky start but could easily show up halfway through the season and surprise. Captain Bree was asked how she thinks her team will do, "this is the best team I've had in the 3 seasons I've been captain and I'm very confident in the team."

Springfield Falcons - this season are led by MrMvp91 with assistant Shomin08. Looks like the team will be led by MrMvp91 and Shomin08 on the offensive side of the game, the real question is who will emerge and be a crucial help on offence? It could really go anyway. Kylebr333 looks like their key piece on RD with his 4.250m contract, looks like Ice_vamp will be holding down their LD for them. The only real question for this team will be the goaltending. Will it be a problem for them with MrSt1cky and oriolesrules44? I guess only time will tell. MrMvp91 had this to say, “I think our team will surprise a lot of people by being sound defensively and utilizing a counter attack in the neutral zone. Our goal is to make the playoffs, because once you are there anything can happen”

Rockford Ice hogs - this season will be led by captain ECH3LON_ with assistant irishfitz. Looks like there goals will come from Xxhockeyfanatic , G0000n_Swag747 and Flash-Foster. I would consider them to be okay on that aspect of the game. Will anyone on their roster step up and steal one of their three starting spots? Xx_Dj_Cyber_JayxX will be their starter on LD with his contract of 2.500m, Rd is really up for grabs between KASHED006 and irishfitz. Will ECH3LON_ be able to keep his team above water? I don't really know about that. ECH3LON_ said, “I’m no good with quotes and pre game speeches, I just try to put everybody in the best place for them to succeed in their career. Autograph sessions are 1hr before home game time.”

North:

Oklahoma City Barons - Being led by LD Papa-Pilo and the spreadsheet master g4threepwood in net this team looks to be strong.  They have a solid front with LW Majestic-Epic; C CjSinclair; and RW Insane_Goalie44.  Who is going to be Pilo’s D partner here though?  Will it be his former PHL teammate Blue-I-Devil?  Or is it going to be the new kid on the block M_Sherba_12?  Watch out for this team in the west. King of quotes and random one liners PapaPilo said this, “I believe the team G4 and I pieced together will make it in the playoffs but can see us having a heated rivalry with Abbotsford within our division. We already have a ton of chemistry and know how each other perform so it should be easy to find success early."

Abbotsford Heat - Over in Abbotsford this season they are led by Disturbance420 with a new primary position of goalie.  His assistant is now none other than the RD SamoanLaxer.  It seems the Wings will be held by Juggalotus92 on one with Come-_-At-_-Me-_’s 4 million dollar contract on the other. Center should be held by DrewDangles creating a solid and high paid first line.  On Defense they have Samoan holding down the fort in RD.  Who will be his d partner though, papapure or schub910?  Now who is going to play goalie?  1.75 mil was spent on Twistedhz69, so I can only assume that he will get the majority of the games.  We will see how this team does. Disturbance was able to make time to send us this quote for this upcoming season, “With the Calder cup on our minds, our depth both on the offensive and defensive side of the puck will be looking to put up consistent numbers every night with Come-_-At-_-Me-_- , DrewDangles and Juggalotus92 leading the attack, and reuniting a great d man pairing with SamoanLaxer818 and Schub910. We are thinking it is going to be a great season.”

Iowa Wild - The Wild this season are led by xyGoodLuckyxy with assistant WesternBeast.  They will have a tough front lead by Flyersap at center.  They have good depth at forward with a very good question of who will emerge as the starters on each wing.  It could go a variety of ways.  Tuffy727 looks to be holding down LD with smtoma’s 2.5 million dollar contract on RD.  The question for this team is at goalie.  Will Awp-so-1337 be able to hold down a starting spot with 8 games a week, or will this team falter without a backup.

Utica Comets - Utica is led by their top D pair Remington_Remedy and TheCaveman46.  This leaves them with a lot of cap to get their two wingers in the form of SilverStaples, and Woogie2216 both at 3.75mil.  Who is going to play center though?  KEVINBOBO1 has the goalie position locked down however with Oneflycdnm3 as backup.  This team is very mysterious.  We will have to wait and see how they do.

West:

Texas Stars – Texas is led by Captain T-Man and Assistant Ryno. T-Man being a well-known goalie started his team off with what he knows best. DEFENSE. The depth in front of the net for Texas will shut down high powered offenses through the AHL. As for his offense there should be no struggle here with former NHL GM Randulfski, AC Ryno, and Hamantor up front. Texas may be the most complete team. Former Memorial Cup Champion S7 (Owner of the London Knights) had this to say, “I hope to have a successful season, and see my team win many hockey games. I have assembled in my mind not the best team but the right team. Each player has a role, and each player earns their ice. I expect a Calder Cup team that battles every night.”

Norfolk Admirals – Norfolk is led by Captains DeadlyKush and Mesposito. Have you ever wanted to face a hardcore offense that scores bunches on you? Play the Admirals. Kush and Mespo proved to be a Force last season for Charlotte putting up HUGE numbers. They looked to add average defense with Hydro, Stencills, and XxI-FEAR-NO-1xX who will have to play pretty well in front of your_anis, and JTowNE41 battling for the starting position. DeadlyKush the captain of Norfolk, was too high to understand so we went to Mesposito and he said "#TeamIntensity"

Portland Pirates – Portland is led by the captain duo of xS1LENT_SN1PERSx and Tremblay. Picking a solid Goalie as your AC is always a plus when you’re a goal scoring winger. First thing is first. 6.25 mil for Oticz. This will eat up a bunch of cap, but could work out in favor of Portland after he is called up. Lainger and I-Hate-To-Punt should hold the fort down in front of Tremblay which could prove hard to score. Right now the offense will have to prove itself especially after the call up of Oticz. xS1LENT_SN1PERSx had this to say about his views on the upcoming season, “I think we are the dark horses of the season... we have a chance to surprise some people.”

Manchester Monarchs – Cupid makes the jump from PHL Captain to AHL Captain taking over the Monarchs bringing offensive powerhouse FreHzeR in as her AC. Looking at the roster this team dumped most of their cap into defense. The only thing being. They are all Primary LD’s. With no standout goalie on this team the defense will have to hold strong and the offense will have to score in bunches. Captain Cupidstunt had this to say about her expectations this upcoming season, “I think my team will do well as long as I keep the bench warmed, lol... But really, we have a lot of competition in our division so we will see how it goes.”

Final Season Prediction Standings:

(Based on Captains predictions)

East:
1. San Antonio
2. Wilkes Barre/Scranton
3. Toronto
4. Providence
5. Andirondack
6. Albany
7. Hershey
8. Syracuse
9. Rochester
10. Bridgeport
11. St. Johns
12. Binghampton

West:
1. Texas
2. Abbotsford
3. Chicago
4. Norfolk
5. Oklahoma City
6. Springfield
7. Manchester
8. Portland
9. Grand Rapids
10. Utica
11. Iowa
12. Rockford

I would like to thank Mesposito, xS7LENT_SN7PERSx, G4threepwood, Disturbance420, xstcopleyx on their contributions.

Peerless: You have been an Oiler since season 3 under the Hemmertime regime,
how do you feel this season not having hemmer as your gm?

Kyle: with Dead as manager the team should be less controversial and more organized but at the same time hemmer carried a talented core of players so it will be interesting to try to maintain the high level of play

Peerless: Making the transition from a Norris winning Defensemen to a Center/RW is never easy.

Do you feel you are more effective up front, or do you think you will end up back on LD next to pucku?

Kyle: After a long career as one of the league's top D-men I was looking for a new challenge by moving to RW and managed to contribute a lot on the offensive side of the play.

I'm hoping to combine the two skill sets to be an effective two way center and I feel my experience as a dman will be valuable going forward

Peerless: Being someone that knows you very well, I can say you are one of the most calm and cool people I've known online.

After two seasons in the DC, do you feel you are ready for the jump to commissioner? What do you feel you can do to improve the league as a commissioner?

Kyle: I actually ran DC for three seasons and in that time laid the framework for a very strict and organized department.

In that time we've managed to clarify the rules and close a lot of old loopholes where captains are now operating on an even playing field.

I can use my experience in a mentor-ship role as league commissioner and hope to continually give back to the community in that role.

This also opens the opportunity for djones to step in and manage the DC.

He's more than ready for that responsibility so I'm excited to see how he can further grow the department.

Peerless747: Over the past 4 seasons we have really seen the league develop more parity throughout.

This season more then ever it seems wide open and anyone's for the taking.

With this balance getting better every season, how close are we to expanding to 30 teams? When do you see that happening?

Kyle: The parity has definitely improved over time with our PBR system and tighter contract rules.

There would be a lot of factors necessary if we expanded including a larger active player base throughout our three leagues and quality management at all levels.

With the uncertainty heading into NHL 15 and the move from PS3 to PS4 it would be unfair to comment on that.

However it's something I would personally like to see at some point in the future.

Season 8 may have just ended, but us in the News room are already looking forward to the start of Season 9,

Here's some possible career milestones that we may see this upcoming season.

Jay6219 & Mudd_Flaps both have a good chance to become the first to reach both the 500 goals & 1000 points markers.

Hemmertime needs 3 assists to be the first to reach 500 assists, also with a return to previous performance (S7) Hemmer could have an outside chance to reach 1000 points as well.

With another 200 point season, Greekelite can reach the 1000 point mark as well.

Jslivers will become the first D-man to reach 1000 hits sometime during the first two weeks of the season.

Anaconda295 , PuckU33 & KyleJ83 (if he goes back to the position) are in a race to see which will be the first D-man to reach 300 points.

With a repeat performance of S8, Danger_Rally can be the first to reach 150 wins.

Of course there are so many other milestones that will be reached, and I for one cannot wait for April 27th !

After a grueling 5 months we are finally here, the Stanley Cup Finals.
4 more wins and one team gets the thrill of Raising the Cup while the other team goes home with the bitter taste of getting so close but coming away with nothing.

STANLEY CUP FINALS

1 Dallas Stars (57-21-4) Vs  4 Ottawa Senators (46-31-5)
Season Series – 2-0 Ottawa

The Clarence S. Campbell Bowl winning Dallas Stars come into the series after sweeping the Detroit Red Wings while the Ottawa Senators took home the Prince of Whales Trophy after defeating the New Jersey Devils in a highly contested 7 game series that included an instant classic game 6.
This is a classic battle of Offense (Ottawa) vs Defense (Dallas) in terms of team philosophy but neither is a slouch in either end of the ice, and both teams come in well experienced in terms of the playoff atmosphere as well as knowing how to take home a Cup with 2 players on each team already owning a ring.
Dallas has gone an outstanding 12 – 1 in the playoffs with the lone loss coming against the St. Louis Blues in the 1st game of the Western Conference Semi-Finals and sweeps over the Los Angeles Kings & Red Wings, Ottawa comes in with a 12-5-1 record in the playoffs which included victories over the Carolina Hurricanes, Boston Bruins & previously mentioned Devils.

Forwards –
Mudd_Flaps / Stevo / TC vs Bunny/Gag/Sticky = Advantage Ottawa

Both teams feature forwards who can score in bunches, Ottawa has been riding their high flying offense all season long (1st with a 3.83 GPG in the playoffs) while Dallas was more of a defensive team throughout the regular season, but have shown their offensive prowess in the postseason with the 2nd highest GPG (3.62)
Mudd_Flaps comes into the series leading the league in scoring in the playoffs (33-22-55) and needs 5 more goals in this series to set a new VGNHL record for Playoff Goals in a season, TC has been threading the needle all season long and is 6 Assists short of setting a new record himself, but let’s not forget who’s on the other side, Gag can match anyone in the league when properly motivated and is flanked by the reigning Ted Lindsey Award winner in B-Bunny.

Defense –
Rusty / Bones vs Valley / Conda = Advantage Dallas

Both D corps are solid groups but also have a slight weakness, Bones has been a forward for the majority of his VGHL career (21 games as D, all coming this season) while Conda is basically the definition of “Offensive Defenseman”
(VGNHL’s all-time leader in points by a defenseman) and has a tendency to jump into the play in the offensive zone, the good thing is both are paired with true D-man to help cover for when their counterparts get in the offensive flow.
I believe the difference in the groups may be that when Conda needs to he can play well defensively, while I’m not sure that Bones will be able to keep the D zone locked down.

Goaltenders –
Joe / Swagger vs Danger = Advantage Dallas

Joe already has a ring as a starter in net but has given way to Swagger as the #1 Goaltender for the Sens and he’s played well enough in the playoffs to keep his team in most games when he’s needed to.
There are maybe 4 or 5 “Elite” goaltenders in the VGNHL, and the majority consensus is that Rally is the leader of the pack, after putting together one of the best regular seasons in the NHL’s history he’s somehow managed to be even better in the playoffs leading the way with a 1.38 GAA & an insane 87.3 Sv%

Key Players – Dallas (vs Ottawa)
B-Bunny – 5-5-10 (2.0 PPG) +2, 10 Shots, 17 Hits, 1 PPG
Gaggan07 – 2-6-8 (1.6 PPG) +2, 16 Shots, 35 Hits, 1 GWG
StickyGreenDubs – 2-1-3 (1.5 PPG) +2, 3 Shots, 4 Hits
AnaConda295 –0-3-3 (1.0 PPG) +4, 3 Shots
ValleyBeast559 – 1-0-1 (0.25 PPG) -1, 9 Shots, 12 Hits, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
Danger_Rally – 2-3, 35 Saves, 43 Shots, 1.60 GAA, 81.4 Sv%, 1 SO

Rings – StickyGreenDubs – 1, Danger Rally - 1

Prediction – Dallas in 6

I picked the Stars as my favorite to take the President’s Trophy and the Stanley Cup in my pre-season preview, Ottawa should be able to hang with Dallas and I think they will take a game or two, I think the combo of Mudd / Stevo / TC will be able to put up points in this series but ultimately I see the Dallas Stars completing my prediction and raising the Stanley Cup.

Agree, Disagree?
Say so here ya jackels

WESTERN CONFERENCE

1 Dallas Stars (57-21-4) Vs  3 Detroit Red Wings (49-29-4)
Season Series – 3-2 Detroit

Dallas comes into the series after taking out the St. Louis Blues in a quick 5 game series which STL won game 1 but the Stars swept the rest of the way, Detroit however comes in with the momentum after upsetting the Calgary Flames in an epic 7 game series.
These two teams met 5 times during the regular season with the Redwings taking 3 games including the final two meetings in which both teams had their expected starters for this series in the games.
The majority of the games between the teams has been low scoring close games which normally would give the edge to Dallas as they feature Danger Rally in net, but in the final two games it’s actually been counterpart Nevernavok who has stolen the show winning both starts.
In the playoffs Detroit has been playing more of a Defensive game while Dallas’s offense has been drastically improved

Key Players – Dallas (vs Detroit)
B-Bunny – 5-5-10 (2.0 PPG) +2, 10 Shots, 17 Hits, 1 PPG
Gaggan07 – 2-6-8 (1.6 PPG) +2, 16 Shots, 35 Hits, 1 GWG
StickyGreenDubs – 2-1-3 (1.5 PPG) +2, 3 Shots, 4 Hits
AnaConda295 –0-3-3 (1.0 PPG) +4, 3 Shots
ValleyBeast559 – 1-0-1 (0.25 PPG) -1, 9 Shots, 12 Hits, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
Danger_Rally – 2-3, 35 Saves, 43 Shots, 1.60 GAA, 81.4 Sv%, 1 SO

Rings – StickyGreenDubs – 1, Danger Rally - 1

Key Players – Detroit (vs Dallas)
Peerless – 3-1-4 (0.8 PPG) -2, 9 Shots, 18 Hits, 1 GWG
Get_On_Ur_Knees – 2-4-6 (1.2 PPG) -2, 6 Shots, 5 Hits, 2 GWG
Se7entee – 2-2-4 (2.0 PPG) +2, 7 Shots, 7 Hits
SoccaPlaya – 0-1-1 (0.2 PPG) -2, 10 Shots, 16 Hits
Cartman2342 – 0-1-1 (0.25 PPG) Even, 6 Shots, 4 Hits
Nevernavok – 2-0, 20 Saves, 22 Shots, 1.00 GAA, 90.9 Sv%, 1 SO

Rings – None

Prediction – Dallas in 6
I can see Nevernavok stealing a game or two in the series as he has been standing on his head throughout the playoffs but the Stars have been on a whole different level the past two weeks

EASTERN CONFERENCE

4 Ottawa Senators(46-31-5)  Vs 7 New Jersey Devils(43-33-6)
Season Series – 3-2 Ottawa

Both teams come into the series after taking care of their 2nd round opponents in relatively easy fashion, the Devils fell in game 1 but swept the rest of the series, while the Senators split the games with Boston through 4 and then dominated them in games 5 & 6.
In the season series between these two teams Ottawa may have won the series by 1 game but only two of these games were close which featured 3-2 wins for both teams, the other 3 games were never in doubt.
What’s most surprising when looking at the numbers for the series is that it’s been DirtyJoe07 who’s actually been stealing games in net (3-0, 0.97 GAA), if he can put up similar numbers in this series than Mes is going to need to be even better than his normally stellar play between the pipes
This is a classic matchup of Offense vs Defense as the Senators come into the series scoring at a league leading pace throughout the playoffs (4.25 GPG) with Mudd_Flaps & T_27_C 1 & 2 in Points at this point, while the Devils have rode the Mesmerize train all the way to the conference finals by posting the 3rd lowest GA in the playoffs (2.10 GPG)

Key Players - Ottawa (vs New Jersey)
Mudd_Flaps – 4-1-5 (1.67 PPG) -1, 11 Shots, 7 Hits, 2 PPG
Stevo1129 – 1-3-4 (4.0 PPG) +4, 6 Shots, 1 GWG
T_27_C – 7-6-13 (2.6 PPG) +1, 15 Shots, 8 Hits, 3 PPG, 2 GWG
Bones955 – 1-8-9 (1.8 PPG) +1, 9 Shots, 7 Hits, 1 PPG
RustyTrombone7 – 0-1-1 (0.5 PPG) -5, 5 Shots, 5 Hits
DirtyJoe07 – 3-0, 24 Saves, 27 Shots, 0.97 GAA, 88.9 Sv%, 1 SO

Rings – DirtyJoe07 – 1, RustyTrombone7 - 1

Key Players – New Jersey (vs Ottawa)
AceFive – 2-3-5 (1.25 PPG) -3, 11 Shots, 15 Hits
Stokeyokes83 – 2-1-3 (1.5 PPG) -4, 5 Shots, 5 Hits, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
IICheckmateII – 2-5-7 (1.75 PPG) +1, 10 Shots, 18 Hits
Tbone512 – 0-1-1 (0.33 PPG) -1, 3 Shots, 12 Hits
Nemisis97 – 0-0-0 (0 PPG) -4, 2 Hits
Mesmerize – 2-2, 41 Saves, 52 Shots, 2.69 GAA, 78.8 Sv%

Rings – None

Prediction – Ottawa in 7
The 1-2-3 punch of Ottawa’s Mudd/Stevo/TC line on paper appears to be just too much for the Offensively challenged Devils, It’s been a good ride but I think the Mesmerize train comes to a stop here in the Conference Finals
