AHL CONFERENCE FINALS
By:T-MAN-13-RHP

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Albany Devils vs. Bridgeport Sound Tigers
“Two defense first teams, but every tiger has its inner devil.”
Albany is in the Eastern Conference Finals after beating WBS and CHR in decisive fashion. The Devils are led by their captain’s lll_SENTINEL_lll and assistant AhL_Allstar-3 shut down the Checkers just as they shut down the Penguins. Defense is the number one thing this team has that could lead them to the Calder Cup. AhL_Allstar-3 has a 2.38 GAA and a .821 SV%. As usual the defense is led by the big three for Albany, lll_SENTINEL_lll, bigdgeorge and pgtips-b who continue to lock down the fort on the back end, as they are a combined +27. Offensively the Devils are led by jor2good and maze_z8. Maze has 33 points in 8 games and jor2good has 16 points in 5 games. AhL_Allstar-3 had this to say about his series against Bridgeport, “This series is going to be the biggest test we have face. Bridgeport is hot right now knocking of 2 division winners and the hottest team in the east. This will test our ability to stay cool under a hot situation. They will put on the pressure with the explosive offense they have. But their defense is also sturdy. This will be a tough battle.”
Bridgeport comes into the Eastern Conference Finals on a tear. They took down the #1 San Antonio Rampage and #3 Hamilton Bulldogs. This team is led by none other than KlNFQLK and he looks to continue his success against a very tough Albany team. He had this to say about his series, "Albany is a really good team, gonna be a battle.” gatorsdynasty24 and dynamickarma lead the offense for the Tigers, a combined 40 points so far in the playoffs. The bright spot on defense is headlined by floetik83, who is a +15 in 10 games on the blue line, also joining him is theis05 who is +10. Jason_23 is 8-2 in between the pipes with a 1.22 GAA and a .855 SV%. Expect a very tough series based on these key players.
Predictions:
TMAN: ALB in 7
MES: ALB in 6
KIN: BRG in 4
BIGT: BRG in 7

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Grand Rapids Griffins vs Rockford Ice Hogs
“Griffins in for a rocky series against these tough Ice Hogs.”
Grand Rapids is coming into this series with decisive wins over Chicago and Norfolk. The Griffins are built on solid team D and that’s because of the Sobo brothers. The Sobo’s lead their team defensively with a +1 in their series’. Offensively they are led by dankchank and hockeyman_16king, they have combined for 38 points and will look to continue a very strong playoffs offensively. In between the pipes, we got biglamb420. Biglamb420 is 3-1 2.40 GAA and .808 SV%. The Sobo’s had a joint statement for this write-up, and they said, “First I'd like to congratulate the Norfolk Admirals on a great season. Great set of players and leadership. Hell of a series. Another series that could've gone either way. Mcleve is a class act and great Captain. Saunter isn't so bad either.... This series we face Rockford, another great team with great leadership. This series will be a chess match. Rockford is a team that was extremely strong the 2nd half of the season. Very tough to play against. Each time we played, it was a nail-biter. The key to their success is that they play stingy defense and counter off that. Very similar to what we do.  As for us, play our game. Focus on what we do best and apply it. We need to stay out of the box and create some PPs to be successful this series. We need our goalies to be the difference makers. With BigLamb, CBK and Habs, we have a 3 headed monster between the pipes. Which is a great luxury. We need them to step it up. Whomever plays best, will get the starts. Best of luck to both clubs. The Grand Rapids Griffins will be ready.”
Rockford is coming in as the underdog here, but there is no doubt they have not made a statement so far. The Ice Hogs have beat the #1 Lake Erie Monsters, and #3 Portland Pirates in decisive fashion. Rockford is no dubitably led by the two headed monster in Moja111 and Kyrpt_Keepa. Combined this duo has 57 points throughout these playoffs and of course you can’t forget about the captain thegdawg34 who adds 19 points. Defensively, they are a +12 between the four defenseman (baydee, lazialli, fatjoedashow and thegdawg34) thegdawg34 had this to say about this series, "Start off by saying the Sobo brothers have done a great job keeping GRR at the top of the rankings all season long, they are always a tough team to face.  We played each other 6 times during the regular season in which 4 games were decided by 1 goal and the other 2 games decided by 2, it’s gonna be an epic battle for the western conference title."
Prediction:
TMAN: RFD in 6
MES: RFD in 5
KIN: GRR in 7
BIGT: GRR in 6

SEASON 8 PHL MEMORIAL CUP FINALSBy:Sazer15

London Knights (1) VS Peterborough Petes (1)
What can be said about these 2 teams. They had great seasons basically dominating their division. They blew by their first round opponents (some rule problems in Peterborough), they took on the second round opponents with a lot of poise and now they meet for a chance to lift the coveted memorial cup.

London has had an amazing playoff run, Captain QcFinezt_KNHL stated, “Our team is confident going into the final without losing once in regular time, so I don't see why things would change.” I have to agree lead by RW FreHzeR who has 9 gp, 14 G, and 17 assists, LW ScottyBoy55 bringing 12 G and 10 assists to the finals. With QcFinest_KNHL in net (1.48 GAA and .850 Sv%) this team looks unstoppable. I had a brief conversation   with London captain QcFinezt_KNHL about the smack talking in round 1 and 2 and this is what he had to say. “To be honest with you, I did caused a lot of hype by talking shit in the second round against the Oil Kings, but I was only to create a doubt in cupistunt16's mind since she was so confident about her. I knew they were going to be ready and I did that cause I was kinda scared since I knew they were good defensively. That  being said, I have a lot of respect for what Redwings accomplished with his team and I'm sure it will be another hard fought series.”

Crossing over to the Eastern Conference we have the  Peterborough Petes, who unlike London had some trouble in the first and second round, taken to 7 by the Armada and 6 by the Steelheads. Even with the long tough series they managed to pull through. Led by captain Juggalotus92 with 30 G and 16 assist and right behind him XxBaseball_EHXx with 13 goals and 15 assists in his 10 playoff games. Like the “dynamic duo” in London these 2 players seem unstoppable thus far and London will have a very tough time controlling them. In net for the Petes in xi-moneyshot-ix who is having an outstanding playoffs with a 2.09 GAA and .845 Sv%. This should be a very fun series to watch, both teams have great offense but i predict this to be a defensive battle with a lot of low scoring games.

Prediction: Its anyones series so im going to give it to London in 7, with that said it could go either way

PHL PLAYOFFS ROUND 2
By: Sazer15 and xstcopleyx

EASTERN

Peterborough Petes (1) vs Mississauga Steelheads (2)

Last Series: 4-3        4-1

Both teams put up an interesting series in the first round edging out tremendous adversaries.  The petes had an outstanding series full of drama to pull out the close win over the ownership riddened Armada (4).  Peterborough should’ve won in 6, but due to a rule being broken, they had to forfeit in an earlier game.  Will Peterborough be able to buckle down take this series?
The steelheads played an outstanding series against Halifax (3), pounding it out to win a tough series in a quick and quiet manor.  They have been respectful and keeping their mouths shut  this postseason so far.  Will the be able to keep that calm and collective coolness up and maintain their poise to make it to the memorial cup finals?

Prediction:  Steelheads in 7

WESTERN

London Knights (1) vs Edmonton Oil Kings (2)

Last Series:4-0                                 4-1

These teams had great first rounds, Edmonton topped Prince Albert in 5 and London swept the Winterhawks. The oil kings going up against a seemingly unstoppable Raiders team handled business to make it through to the second round. The Raiders put up a valiant effort but the Oil Kings were just too much to handle led by Captain cjsinclair7401 and cupidstunt16. Will be able to continue their winning or will they roll over for London?
The Knights unlike the Steelheads have been talking major garbage. This is led by captain QcFinezt_KnHL. In my opinion they have ruined the outstanding reputation upheld by the knights throughout the season. With captain, QcFinezt_KnHL in net the knights are seemingly unbeatable. Will they be able to live up to the hype? Will their shittalking comeback to bite them in the ass?

Prediction: Oil Kings in 6

AHL PLAYOFFS ROUND 2
By: TMAN and Mesposito

Eastern Conference

San Antonio Rampage vs Bridgeport Sound Tigers
“Defense wins championships, but not if you got a Rampage of offense.”
The San Antonio Rampage are currently in a deep freeze down in southern Texas, but that hasn’t stopped them from still having a red hot offense. San Antonio’s “Big three” have put up 10 points so far in the playoffs. Rich2k8, Digler and dans1pa look to continue their high powered offense against a team in Bridgeport who just find a way to win. Talent wise Rich and Sn1pa are two of the most talented players in the AHL, while digler is the playmaker setting up those two. Digler has 10 points but 8 of those are assists. In the Rampages first round matchup they beat arguably the best goalie in the AHL in Hailtothevictor. On D, DD_decimation and atreyal were a +6 in 3 and 4 games respectively against Providence. Speaking of goalies DK_Kassicus went 4-2 against Providence, with a 1.43 GAA .882 SV% and one shutout. Coming off a successful series win over Providence, captain Rich2k8 had this to say about his second round matchup. “First, hats off to Providence on an exciting and tough first round series. We expect nothing less from Bridgeport, as they are a solid group and play hard. We are ready as always, and also don't plan on swapping LD during games. Good luck and have fun, should be a great series.”
The Tigers take on the 1st place Rampage. The Tigers take out 3rd place bulldogs last round, but now facing the toughest team in the east, how will they do? Leading the team on offence is gatorsdynasty24 who got 11 points in 6 games, also KlNFQLK had 8 points in 5 games. Now with these stats, especially now going up against the Rampage, they need to pick that up. The Rampage will try to make the game offensive, but if the Tigers can find a way to change the pace of the game, then maybe we can be looking at an upset. All eyes are on for this series is the goalie, jason_23 who has the toughest job, had a great first round, he had a GGA of 1.09  and a SV% of .839, somehow if he could keep that up the Rampage are going to be looking at a wall in the net. Captain of the Bridgeport team is KlNFQLK had this to say about rich and the Rampage, "This is the series we have been waiting for!”

Albany Devils vs Charlotte Checkers
“Strong devils believe the first letter is most important, as Lemieux still uses lucky pocket pussy for wins.”
Albany is coming into this series over an impressive series win over a hot WBS Penguins. The Devils were able to finish off their series in five games. Captain lll_SENTINEL_lll and assistant AhL_Allstar-3 shut down the penguins and look to do the same with a much more talented and explosive offense in the Checkers. The offense for the Devils is led by jor2good and maze_z8. Maze put up 17 points in four explosive games, while jor2good put up 11 in three games. Of course on D they have three players who hold down the fort in lll_SENTINEL_lll, bigdgeorge and pgtips-b, the three of them accumulated a +8 in five games. Of course we haven’t mentioned AhL_Allstar-3 who went 4-1 in his first series, with 2.20 GAA and .841 SV%. This is a TEAM which unlike many who are led by a few players, that could help them end up in the Eastern Conference Finals. Assistant Captain AhL_Allstar-3 had this to say about his matchup, “This is gonna be a tough battle. A fight to the end. Charlotte has be a tough opponent since the beginning. They have some damaging scoring abilities. We have to contain it. I believe this will go to 7.”
The Checkers fly by the first round of the playoffs lead by DeadlyKush, Mesposito, and BossRoss, who combined a point total of 44 in only 4 games. This was lead by Mesposito 12 assists, and 18 points, and Kush’s 4 goal game performance in game 5. Also Ross had 30+ hits. To what looks to be a great series, we have to see what comes out of the Checkers, they are known for having a good two way game, but how will they adjust when you have not only a D like the Devils have, but when you have a top goalie sitting in between the posts. It may come down to a goalie series, but who will step up for the Checkers? Will it be PanaMark who went 3-0, or will it be NyIsles3 or will the Checkers get the best of both worlds, and have  both of them playing well..Captain Lemieux_Polamalu had this to say about his series, “Albany devils are a great opponent, solid defensively and jor2good is leadin the way. We have a two line system thunder and lightning and we’ll need both playing well to advance. We’ll be ready for a tough series.”

Western Conference

Lake Erie Monsters vs Rockford Ice Hogs
“The Ice Hogs are a monster, but can Lake Erie see them before they take over their ice?”
Lake Erie is coming off an easy first series against the 8th place Oklahoma City Barons, who seemed in tough from the very start. Lake Erie won this series in four games and will have been off since Monday night almost a full week before their next set of games on Sunday. Lake Erie is another team that was built defense first, and ensuring higher TOA than their opponent. Lake Erie is led by their two captain’s grahamscott and llXBoychuk_55Xll who anchor the blue line and were a +6 in 4 games. Offensively, they are led by llXSpezza_19Xll, flo_ridaboy23 and SRIZLE who had 22 points combined in 4 games. In net was ricsha1992 who had a 1.90 GAA and .867 SV% in 3 games going 3-0. Captain grahamscott had this to say about his upcoming series against Rockford, “I feel like Rockford will be more of a test for Lake Erie then Oklahoma was. That being said, Lake Erie was able to beat them even when they were rocking their top line in January and will be able to beat them four more times this week.”
Can the Ice Hogs do something crazy? The red hot Ice Hogs have the president winning team on the other end of the ice, but with Krypt_Keepa and Moja111 I don’t see why they cant do it. Moja111 had 14 points in 5 games, and Krypt_Keepa had 17 points in 5 games. He is in send for points in the playoffs. Also we have thegdawg34 who got 13 points in only 3 games. With these 3 playing the Monsters should be scared. Like most goalies in the 1st round SIR-_SMOKE-_ELOT had a great one. Taking down the Pirates isn’t the easiest thing to do, but he went 4-1 with a GAA of 1.59 and a SV% of .810. he is 3rd in the league for GAA. If he can play like that again, then the Monsters are going to have a very tuff time. Captain of the Ice Hogs thegdawg34 had this to say about his series with Lake Erie, "Looking forward to playing against the #1 team from the regular season, no question this will be an extremely tough series."

Grand Rapids Griffins vs Norfolk Admirals
“Admirals already beat one set of birds, can they do it again?”
Grand Rapids is coming into this series, just like Lake Erie and that’s coming off a sweep over the Chicago Wolves. The Wolves had really no chance with Lake Erie as they are a well-rounded team who is a favorite in these playoffs. Of course the well-known Sobo brothers lead this team who solidify the blue line. The Sobolioni brothers are a combined -1 in four games but continually ensure their goalie is not getting scored on. On offense they have dankchank and hockeyman_16king who had a combined 23 points in the four game series. In net biglamb420 appeared in only two games but posted a 2-0 record with 2.54 GAA and a .792 SV%. The Sobo’s had a joint quote, in which they gave their thoughts about Norfolk. “First things first. It was a great season in the Midwest Division. Every team from the division made the playoffs. So there's no question where the solidified teams were in the West this season. First Round we faced one of 3 division rivals. Chicago is a good squad with good leadership. They were a tough opponent all season. With a first round matchup like that, we were extremely happy to come out of it in 4 games. Because games 1 and 2 could have gone either way. I truly believe if they had pulled one or both of those games out, it may have been a completely different outcome. Hats off to Orioles and BigLamb who both played between the pipes those games. Stellar job keeping each team in it. This round we have Norfolk. Another division rival who has been consistently great all season. Great set of players and leadership. McCleve is a standup guy and Saunter isn't so bad himself. Listen, you can posts stats and talk about who and what-not. For us, we need to do what we do best. Stick to our game. Fact of the matter my brother and I have one team to worry about. The Grand Rapids Griffins. We need to play our game and stick to the process. Team who makes the least mistakes will win this series. I have the upmost confidence in my club to win every game we play, we just need to play that way, and we will.”
The Admirals took their first round to a game 7, vs the Griffins, they would like to end it as quick as possible. Leading the team is, mcleve913 he had 15 points in 6 games. To break down the Griffins, someone else needs to step up, and help him out. Heroic_saunter had 7 points in 7 games playing center. With the griffins all ready, and a tough D matchup. Once again this series will come down to the goalies. JTowNE41 has that on his plate, as he had a very good 1st round. He went 4-3 with a GAA of 2.44, and a SV% of  .802. Vs the Griffins I don’t see why he cant have the same stats when he has the D in front of him. Captain of the Norfolk Admirals, mcleve13 had this to say about the sobos and Grand Rapids. “Grand rapids is going to be an interesting series, to say the least. I have tons of respect for the Sobo's they are a top defensive pair in the ahl, they also have an efficient offense as well with hockey, dank, and habs. They had our number in the regular season in a handful of tight games, we finally broke that trend on the final day of the season with a 2-1 ot victory. With some good team defense and some great goaltending by heroic and jtowne, I think we can take this series and advance to the western finals.”

The 1st round of the playoffs saw some big upsets in the Eastern Conference (Boston over Montreal, New Jersey over Tampa Bay) while the Western Conference saw 3 of the top 4 teams advance including sweeps by Dallas & Calgary, every matchup remaining is about as unpredictable as they come and every series should be a nail biter.
12 more wins until someone can call themselves Champions.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

1 Dallas Stars (57-21-4) Vs  5 St. Louis Blues (47-28-7)
Season Series – 3 – 2 Dallas

The Dallas Stars finally showed some of the potential we all expected to see during the season as they averaged 4.25 goals per game in a sweep of the Los Angeles Kings while the St. Louis Blues took care of business in a 6 game series against the Phoenix Coyotes, to be honest I think this is the best series in the 2nd round, before the Blues stopped caring because they knew they would make the playoffs they were one of the top teams in the league while the Stars also knew they would make it and took the President’s Trophy while mainly relying on Defense, but here we are in the playoffs and it was a different story for both teams, suddenly the Blues started caring a bit and “out of nowhere” B-Bunny & Gaggan07 combined for 21 points over four games, throw in a huge 4-1-5 game out of Juice_Lahey and now you have two of the best going head-to-head in what should be a classic series.

Early in the season St. Louis took two games but after the All-Star break the Stars won the remaining 3 games, so this one could go to either team.

Key Players – Dallas (vs St. Louis)
B-Bunny – 7-1-8 (1.6 PPG) +4, 14 Shots, 32 Hits, 1 PPG, 2 GWG
Gaggan07 – 3-7-10 (2.0 PPG) +4, 13 Shots, 43 Hits

Rings – R-Mean-IAN – 2, VegaRidge – 1, GayPhish – 1, Natey2k4

Prediction – Dallas in 6

The Blues when trying have one of the best offensive teams in the league and so do the Stars, both rosters read like All-Star teams but the difference between the two teams is in the back end, both teams feature outstanding Defensive corps and top 5 Goaltenders, but the Dallas D together with Danger_Rally in net are just on a whole different level from everyone else right now.

2 Calgary Flames (50-20-12) Vs 3 Detroit Red Wings (49-29-4)
Season Series – 4 – 1 Calgary

Detroit comes in to the series after defeating the Colorado Avalanche in epic fashion, winning an instant classic 3-2OT in game 7 thanks to the heroics of Se7enTee who potted all 4 game winning goals in the series for the Red Wings.
The 2nd seeded Calgary Flames reached the Conference Semi-Finals after dispatching the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 (cough)
The Flames won the season series 4-1 but it was Detroit who took the last game which was played on the last day of the season in a 3-2 overtime victory. The Wings roster will have 3 players who did not play much against the Flames in their matchups which could give the Wings an advantage early in the series while the Calgary D tries to figure them out, one thing that neither team lacks is playoff experience as they have a combined 192 playoff games under their collective belts.
Both teams feature top notch forwards and D men who can shut down opposing offenses, where the edge in the series may come is in net where Detroit has the distinct advantage of having Nevernavok between the pipes who when bringing his A game is one of the top G’s in the league while the Flames counter with Chrome who is the worst G left in the playoffs.

I can see this one being a tighter series than most people think and Nav will more than likely steal a couple of games for the Red Wings, but the Flames offense should edge this one out in a close hard fought series that goes the distance.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

4 Ottawa (46-31-5)   Vs 8 Boston (42-35-5)
Season Series – 3-3 Tied

Both teams are riding high after their 1st round victories, Ottawa easily defeated the Carolina Hurricane’s 4-1 but it’s Boston who comes in with the momentum after ousting the top seed in the East in the Montreal Canadiens who some picked to reach the Stanley Cup Finals.
Each team features high flying offenses capable of pouring on the points, defensive units which are improving at the right time and have G’s that have plenty of experience…plus that one thing all of us want…a Stanley Cup Championship Ring.
In the season series they alternated two wins a piece through four games, then split the final two games in blow outs for each team including a 8-3 W for the Bruins which snapped Ottawa’s 14 game winning streak.

I think these teams are well matched in the offensive and defensive departments, both are good on the Power Play (slight nod to Ottawa) and have goaltenders that are streaky, if one of them gets hot then this series could be shorter than expected, quite honestly I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Senators take this series, but I’m taking this one as my upset of the round.

6 Pittsburgh (43-32-7)  Vs 7 New Jersey (43-33-6)
Season Series – 3-3 Tied

The Penguins & Devils come into the series after being the underdogs in the 1st round, Pittsburgh defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in a series that went 7, while New Jersey beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 5 game set that saw a total of 22 goals scored combined in a defensive battle.
Pittsburgh & New Jersey split the season series with each team alternating wins all series long, interesting to note that the Home team won every game.
This should be a showdown of Offense (Pitt) vs Defense (NJD), one thing to watch for is to see how disciplined the Devils are in the series as they finished the regular season killing only 69% of their PK’s, if they can have a similar performance in this series as they did in the TBL series (4 games 6 PK’s) then they have a chance but if they take a lot of trips to the sin bin it will be all Pittsburgh.

Key Players – Pittsburgh (vs New Jersey)

Prediction – New Jersey in 7

There’s something about this team that reminds me of the Tampa Bay Lightning which was the Cinderella team of S7, I think with just a little goal support Mesmerize will keep playing at a high end level and lead his team into the Conference Finals

**Note – All Career Playoff Stats are from Season 4 thru the end of the 1st round of S8.

VGAHL SEASON 8 PLAYOFFS

EASTERN CONFERENCE

San Antonio Rampage vs Providence Bruins
“A Rampage of offense against the AHL’s top goalie”
San Antonio Rampage finished this season 56-19-7 and had the most explosive offense. The Rampage are led by Rich2k8 and dasn1pa on offense, and oh did we mention they also have oticz and digler069? Those three forwards are among the most talented offensive weapons in the AHL. Rich and sn1pa had a combined 528 points in 154 games combined this season, and oh yeah Digler had 180 points in 56 games and Oticz adds 52 points in 14 games. Talk about explosive. DD_decimation and Atreyal hold the blue line for the Rampage. Dk_kassicus is their starting tender and has been brilliant in his 43 games this season. Posting a 34-9 record with a 2.15 GAA and .810 SV%. Captain Rich2k8 had this to say about his first round matchup “Providence is an underrated team in the 8th seed. I expect a tough series. The Eastern conference in general is very tough top to bottom, so anyone can win any series in my opinion.”
Providence Bruins had a record of 42-35-5, and had a good start, but really feel face flat coming to the end of the season. The team finished with an AGF of 3.16 and a AGA of 2.98. Leading the team is none other than Cody275. He put up a 2.44ppg with 198 points in 81 games. He finished 4th in scoring. With one of the stronger goalies in the AHL we have Hailtothevictors he had games were it was like a brick wall was in front of the net. He had 7 shutouts and a 2.49 GGA and a SV% of .807. If he can have some help with the D, and keep the Rampage to the outside, we could be looking at an upset. We have seen the Bruins be hot, but what team will be entering the playoffs? The Bruins we saw earlier in the year, or the Bruins we saw at the end. If we do see the earlier bruins, this is going to be one hell of the series.

Albany Devils vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
“The battle of baby teams, will lead to a pure defensive battle”
Albany finished the season by clinching the Northeast Division on the last day. 109 points was accumulated by the baby devils, which is fourth in the AHL. AhL_Allstar-3 and lll_SENTINEL_lll led this team to a strong finish after a rough start to the season. The Devils have a very strong back end with lll_SENTINEL_lll, BigDGeorge and AhL_Allstar-3 and those three look to hold the fort and win this series. Jor2good will lead the offense, an offense that has for the most part needed that pure scorer up front. Jor2good is a 2 PPG player in the AHL with 14 points in 7 games, but had 69 points in 27 games in the PHL with Edmonton. AhL_Allstar-3 the assistant captain of Albany had this to say on his first round matchup, “From the run ins we have had with WBS I know this won't be a walk in the park. They have the offense to get it done. I believe this will be a hard grind it out series. Tabbs will come to play and keep his team in it.”
Penguins Finished this season in the best way they could, only a few weeks ago we saw this team looking in, but we find them in 7th vs the Devils. They finished with 90 points this season, Sg got his team together, and pulling them into the finals making some clutch trades that would help the team moving forward. A big part of this team is blckhwk84, his play on the offensive side really picked everything off the ground. He finished the season with a 2.50 PPG, and had 120 points in 48 games. Another noted player on the offence is twoATRfour playing the most games on offence with 70 he finished with 123 points and a 1.60PPG. The starting goalie for the Penguins is tabbs85, playing 27 games he finished the season with a record of 14-13. He got 1 S0 in the time. Like most expect Tabbs is a big part on this team, and really have to put his game at an all-time high, if he doesn’t, the Penguins are going to really need to pull something out of the bag. Captain of WBS had this to say, “Albany is always a tough match up Sentinel and BigDGeorge are a top D pairing and AHL_allstar is one of the top goalies in the AHL. They just added jor to help on offense so we will have to contain him, we look forward to the challenge and proving the doubters wrong.”

Hamilton Bulldogs vs Bridgeport Sound Tigers
“Dogs and Cats, the fight just got real”
Hamilton was a very silent team this year. They never were talked about as a “top team” but found a way to win their division (with ease). Hamilton accumulated 103 points throughout the season, and have done that for the most part under the radar from the top teams like LEM, GRR, SAR. The Bulldogs have the second highest amount of scoring as a team (behind SAR). Offensively the Bulldogs are led by Myles_Mayfield, usermike4948, and smokey1010. On the blue line they have two of the top offensive defenseman in the AHL in SICK_CHEWBACCA and Exclamation9. They also have MCJAYTEE in between the pipes as well as Hitman1342. Mcdizzle99 the captain of Hamilton had this to say, “Their a tough team it was never an easy win for us or them. I except us to go deep in the series but I'm hoping if we play our best we should see the next round no problem."
Tiger were one of those team that looked like they would break out, then stop, then would start over. They went 46-31-5 finishing in 6th with 97 points for the season. The Tigers really look like they could take down the bulldogs, if they play their game. On offence we have jason_23 and KlNFQLK who had been a clear leader for the team. They combine points for 156 points. On the blue line they have floetik83 who chipped in 28 points in 31 games. Then we have the goalies, they don’t seem to have a real starting goalie by the stats, but whoever plays will have to be the game changer for the Tigers. Captain Kinfqlk had this to say about the matchup, "We shall do our playing on the ice.”

Adirondack Phantoms vs Charlotte Checkers
“The battle of unknowns. Line 2, Hi who’s this?”
Adirondack is coming off a performance this past week to lose the division title, and now have to face off against a very strong team in Charlotte. They most likely will lose their best player in SNIPESHOW_21 to being called up, which could make things a lot more difficult for the Phantoms. xS7LENT_SN7PERSx is their best offensive weapon without SNIPESHOW_2.  XS7LENT_SN7PERSx  has 158 points in 71 games this season which leads the Phantoms, along with xTWINE_THRASHERx who has 138 points in 51 games. Defensively no standouts that could possibly stop Charlottes #1 line (IF they play). Lordalex999 seems to be their best goalie and at 2.61 GAA and .804 SV% could be the difference, as he will have to steal the series. XS7LENT_SN7PERSx will need to rally his troops and have lordalex999 stand on his head to win. Here’s a quote from XS7LENT_SN7PERSX, “Checkers are a great team. It’s not going to be an easy first round. My team is strong, and the Checkers are a respectable team, but its playoffs. No mercy. Just hockey.”
Checkers are coming off of 2 very even weeks. The big story behind this team is what they have planned for the playoffs, we seen this team just dominate teams, but then we see them lose. They Checkers finished in the 5th spot with 106 on the season, with the 2nd best goal differential in the east. With all their successes is the 3 stand out forwards. LW BossRoss12, Center deadlykush204, and RW Mesposito12. This line (when they play) is the perfect example of a top line. If you haven’t vs Ross in a game your lucky, in only 14 games Ross has 180 hits, and still managed to have a 2.80ppg. Then Kush, and Mes just have the give and go kind of offence that click. Both finishing in the top 10 for goals, they look to really do something in the playoffs. Now, we also have Woogie2216, and Lemieux_Polamalu. Both have changed a game in a hart beat. But it’s up to Lemieux to really lead this team to win this series. If we don’t see what we come to know from the Checkers, we really could see the Phantoms moving on to the next round.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Lake Erie Monsters vs Oklahoma City Barons

“A series that may leave the Barons under a Monsters step”
Lake Erie took over the number one spot in the West this week and they’ve gone 9-1-0 in their last ten. The Monsters have a strong backend with captains Graham_scott, llXBoychuk_55Xll and TRUEKING23. Between them they should help whoever they decide to play in net have an easy job. Offensively they have PHL graduate Dominator1977, srizle and llXSpezza_19Xll which lead the offense. llXSpezza_19Xll has 149 points in 63 games and Srizle has 81 points in 42 games. Unfortunately they don’t have a clear #1 goalie, which would be their downfall in later rounds, but not in this one. Graham_scott the captain of Lake Erie had this to say about his first round matchup, “Lake Erie feels confident moving into the first round against Oklahoma. With our 33 goals for against the Barons account for more the 10% of our total for the season. We've out shot, out hit and managed to shut down their top scorers. Sinner and Tizzle have run a good team all season but they have struggle on the road and they will need very strong showing.”
Barons are hoping they can make something happen vs the Monsters, with Sinner leader the way, it that enough to overcome the Monsters? Sinner come out with 161 points in 71 games. He is the clear leader for this team. Now flip the coin to defense, we have BombermanUXO who played 43 games at RD. He had 38 points and a +7 during that time. For the men in the net, we have two goalies. KungFuHamster82 & Tanger7758. It doesn’t matter who plays in this series, both have to be unreal if they want to see their team moving up to the next round. Tanger7758  has a record of 16-13 in 29 games, with a GAA of 2.88 and a SV& of .755. KFU has a record of 5-9 in 14 games, with a GGA of 3.36 and a SV& of 7.29. It’s up to these two, to really find a way to win some games. But will the away games take their toll on the Barons?

Grand Rapids Griffins vs Chicago Wolves

“Wolves are in tough as Griffins fly together”
Grand Rapids comes after losing their number one spot and home ice advantage throughout the playoffs this week. The Griffins are 5-4-1 in their past ten and need to bounce back as they face a Wolves team who has had many ups and downs this season. Offensively the Griffins have dankchank who in 75 games had 147 points, habsrule444 with 58 points in 24 games and hockeyman_16king with 84 points in 35 games. Of course on the blue line they got the famous sobo’s who will look to shutdown jay/vi and the high powered offense. In net there is no real standout to make them confident between the pipes and like Lake Erie could hurt them in later rounds.
Wolves need to take one step at a time, in this series the wolves really need to find a way to break down that defense that the Griffins hold. On the offence side of things we have DONA_TELLO & captain thevirus15, they both combine for a total of 278 points. These two have a task in front of them that for most couldn’t be achieved. On the defensive side of this Wolves is ACDC_BONFIRE he only played 19 games, but has 14 points. With really no clear leader for the defense someone back there is going to have to take a step up, and should do that quickly. The man in the net is Saicri 17-34 in 51 games, and with a GAA, of 4.18, and a SV% of .735. With stats like this, he need to step up his game soon, The Griffins are really going to put presser on, and he needs to stay calm, and shut down the door.  The captain of Chicago thevirus15 had some very knowledgeable advice for any player or person in this series, “Keep your sticks on the ice and don’t piss in the wind.” Wise words.

Portland Pirates vs Rockford Ice hogs
“Ice Hogs deal with the theft of Pirates”
Portland clinched the West division title on Wednesday with wins over Norfolk and Manchester City. Portland is hot going into the break with a 7-1 week, which had some key victories against teams like GRR, NOR and the team they face in the first round Rockford. The offense is led by Captain ChitownMenace, Polynomc and their 5.5 million dollar man riseoftheninja. ChitownMenace had 210 points in 76 games this season, to lead the offense while poly and ninja chipped in 137 points in 56 games and 111 points in 32 games respectively. On the blue line Dynasty1989, J-Stephens76, and KrazyKhaim hold down the fort. In between the pipes they have T-MAN-13-RHP who is third in wins for AHL goalies with 38 and had a 4-1 week this past week with a shutout and 1.82 GAA, .875 SV%. Chitown said this about his first round matchup “u know what? Fuck Rockford."
The Ice Hogs have had their ups, and their downs. If we see that Ice Hogs team that had that great run in the middle of the season, this series could be something else. On offense we have 2 time POTW, Krypt_Keepa. He has 37 games played and 133 points. On his left, Moja111, with 52 games played and 153 points. aka a dynamic duo. On defense, D_assasin23. he has 11 games played and an astonishing +37 in through those games. With an offense like Portand he has to be just a wall. Then to the man in the net, SIR-SMOKE-ELOT. He has a record of 26-10 with a GGA of 2.53 and a SV% of .764. Smoke really found his stride in Rockford and took Goalie of the week honors 2 weeks ago. With all these players in mind, the key to the Ice Hogs winning this series is, keep it simple, don’t over thing think, and play their game

Norfolk Admirals vs Springfield Falcons

“Commanding the Falcons may be what Admirals do”
Norfolk is 5-3-2 in their last ten games, they had a strong season up until now, finishing the year with 103 points. The Admirals were led by their captain mcleve913 on offense 173 points in 80 games, along with heroic_aunter who has 118 points in 59 games. On the blue line they have illuminati_XIX, kingaj25 and jonathanblaze, who will look down to keep their team in contention in a tight series like this. Captain of the Norfolk Admirals mcleve913 had this to say, “I think it'll be a tough series, and possibly a lengthy one as well. We're very similar teams, and it's always a team I look forward to playing. Personally I think this series will be determined by the level of play between the pipes, hopefully we can stand tall and advance to round 2.”
Falcons may need to “Falcon punch” their way to victory. Rcgloe and J--IGINLA—12 share the offence for this team as they have a combined point’s total of 261. They are going to play their game, and see if they can break down the Admirals. On defense they have djcloudz, who has 64 points in 54 games, also he has a +35. The starting goalie for the falcons is they really don’t have one, but MyDate has the most games as goalie, he has a record 4-8 in 12, with a GGA of 3.68 and a SV& of .741.

This is the time of the season that everyone has been waiting for, 82 grueling games just to get a chance for the only 16 wins that really matter.
Finally, it’s time for the Season 8 VGNHL Playoffs!

WESTERN CONFERENCE

1 Dallas Stars (57-21-4) Vs  8 Los Angeles Kings (43-34-9)
Season Series – 4-2 Dallas

Both of the teams in this matchup had their season come down to the final game as the Dallas Stars needed all 82 games to take home the prodigious President’s Trophy for leading the NHL in points, and the Los Angeles Kings needed all 82 games to make the playoffs in thrilling fashion by beating the Edmonton Oilers in overtime in game 82.

Before the regular season me and just about everyone else in the league said Dallas would be a Juggernaut, and while they were short of my prediction of challenging for the all-time points record, it was still an impressive season none the less, especially when you consider that they weren’t an offensive team like expected but the pinnacle of a defensive team which lead the league in fewest goals against with an amazing 136 given up in 82 games (1.66 per game) lead by ValleyBeast559/Anaconda295/Razor2766 and Vezina Trophy shoe-in Danger Rally (#RallyforHart).

The Kings are led by veteran player & two time Stanley Cup Champion RunLikeHell.
LA is a story of two halves, in the 1st half of the season they couldn’t get any bounces and lost 11 games by 1 goal but the experience gained in those close games helped them win 16 games by 1 goal in a 2nd half which saw the Kings master the “Dump-In” system as their preferred method of gaining entry into the offensive zone which enables the forwards to crash the net while the opposing teams defensemen are watching the puck bounce around.

In the 6 games between the two clubs, 4 (2 wins a piece) of them were decided by 1 goal so expect a series filled with low scoring games coming down to the final seconds, and judging by how this season went, that will suit both teams just fine.

I think this series will have a few factors to it, first and foremost, will Gaggan07 & B-Bunny actually start playing seriously since it’s the playoffs and put up numbers closer to their career norms, will LA’s experience with close games keep them from breaking when everything is on the line.

Key Players – Dallas (vs Los Angeles)
B-Bunny – 3-5-8 (1.6 PPG) , +7, 19 Shots, 22 Hits, 1 PP, 2 GWG
Gaggan07 – 3-3-6 (1.2 PPG), +7, 11 Shots, 40 Hits, 1 PP, 1 GWG
CadillacSTS – 2-6-8 (2.0 PPG) +1, 8 Shots, 19 Hits,
Danger Rally – 4-1, 43 Saves, 48 Shots, 0.95 GAA, 95.2 Sv%, 2 SO’s

Rings – StickyGreenDubs – 1, Danger Rally - 1

Key Players – Los Angeles (vs Dallas)
RunLikeHell – 5-2-7, (1.16 PPG), -6, 20 Shots, 20 Hits, 1 GWG
Mawson_99 – 1-2-3 (0.5 PPG) -6, 15 Shots, 9 Hits, 1 PP, 1 GWG
Yucko – 1-3-4 (0.66 PPG) -6, 9 Shots, 16 Hits, 1 PP
SteelCityFan17 – 1-4, 43 Saves, 56 Shots, 2.50 GAA, 76.7 Sv%

Rings – Runlikehell – 2, Mawson99 – 1, Skizzzer – 1, DyDy23 - 1

Prediction – Dallas in 6

The biggest question of all is can the Kings do what the rest of the league hasn’t this season and solve Danger Rally?
I can see them doing it for a game or two, and every game being a close one, but ultimately I do not see LA winning 4 out of a possible 7 games against Dallas, if the Kings do take the series, not only will it be one hell of a win for Runlikehell’s team, but it will also mean Dallas will continue the tradition of the President’s Trophy winner not taking home the cup as the last team to pull off the feat was Season 3’s New Jersey Devils, and who just happened to be a key member of that team???? None other than Runlikehell herself.

2 Calgary Flames (50-20-12) Vs 7 Edmonton Oilers (44-30-Cool
Season Series – 4 – 2 Calgary

The Calgary Flames kick off their quest to be the first team to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions since the S1-S2 New York Islanders against Division rival the Edmonton Oilers in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Championship.

Edmonton returns to Calgary with their Season 7 GM of the Year winner LumpyRutherford with the hopes that he can lead them past the Flames and one step closer to that one thing they all admire on Lumpy’s finger while in the dressing room, a Stanley Cup Championship ring.

Both teams are quite disciplined as they were ranked 3rd (Edm) and 5th (Cgy) in least penalty minutes taken which means this series should see plenty of 5 on 5 and may lead to low scoring games throughout the series which could benefit the Flames as they are more of a Defense first team whereas Edmonton is more of an Offensive team.
Of the 189 Penalties called on the Oilers this season, 15 have come in the 6 games against the Flames, and the flames were able to capitalize on 9 of those chances (60%) while of the 187 Whistles blown on the Flames 12 have come against the Oilers who potted 1 goal on those chances (8%)

The key to this series will likely come down to puck control, Calgary led the league this season in Time On Attack per game clocking in just barely under 8 minutes per game while Edmonton was no slouch with the puck either averaging 6:15 TOA per game, if Calgary imposes their game style of puck possession throughout the series the Oilers than they may struggle to get many quality scoring chances, but if Edmonton can control the flow of the game and put pressure on Flames Goaltender Chrome-(#Igotcarriedallseasonwhilewatchinginactionview)USAF than this series will be a close one.

Key Players – Edmonton (vs Calgary)
Kylej83 – 1-7-8 (1.33 PPG) +1, 8 Shots, 21 Hits
Hemmertime – 0-4-4 (0.66 PPG) -1, 8 Shots, 30 Hits
Zywicki99 – 3-0-0 (1 PPG) -1, 5 Shots, 6 Hits, 1 GWG
Pucku – 0-3-3 (0.75 PPG) Even, 9 Shots, 5 Hits
Nino_Nemisis – 0-3-3 (0.75 PPG), Even, 8 Shots, 8 Hits
DiirtyDangles – 1-1, 17 Shots Against, 22 Saves, 2.50 G.A.A, 77.2 Sv%

Rings – LumpyRutherford – 1, Robieberto - 1

Key Players – Calgary (vs Edmonton)
iPlay2WinDaGame – 10-5-15 (2.5 PPG) -1, 22 Shots, 27 Hits, 6 PPG, 1 GWG
mcfSlayer921 – 3-9-12 (2.0 PPG), Even, 20 Shots, 17 Hits, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
ChuckieNZ – 2-6-8 (1.33 PPG) -1, 16 Shots, 19 Hits
meMack – 1-3-4 ( 0.80 PPG), Even, 8 Shots, 6 Hits, 1 PPG
Jazz134 – 2-2-4 (2.0 PPG), -1, 8 Shots, 3 Hits, 1 PPG
ChRoMe-USAF – 3-0, 13 Saves, 17 Shots Against, 1.33 GAA, 76.4 Sv%

Rings – iPlay2WinDaGame – 3, meMack – 2, mcfSlayer921 – 1, ChuckieNZ – 1, Mach-One21 - 1

Prediction – Calgary in 7

This series will come down to who is able to shut down the other team’s forward line, if the Oilers forwards can work the puck around enough to draw the Flames players out of position and create open space for two of the VGNHL’s highest all time scorers (Kyle & Hemmer) they will have a great chance and this series will be a close one, but I see the Flames ultimately being able to do just enough to take a series filled with close hard fought games.

3 Detroit Red Wings (49-29-4) Vs 6 Colorado Avalanche (46-29-7)
Season Series – 3-2 Detroit

It’s kind of fitting that the teams that kicked off the season would be kicking off the 1st round of the playoffs, The Detroit Red Wings & Colorado Avalanche met in the 1st game of the season with Detroit winning in thrilling fashion as they scored twice in the final minute of the game (tying goal with 20 seconds remaining in the 3rd period) and again 3 minutes into Overtime, the Wings also won the Central Division thanks again to a 3-2 OT win in the last game of the season (with both games coming against a certain opposing Goaltender who will remain nameless….. Damn you Detroit !)
Detroit took the first three meetings between the two teams but Colorado won the most recent two games 10-0 and then a thrilling 3-2 win in Overtime of their own.

The Av’s have made plenty of moves during this season with only Captain Nova1739, D_Sulli16 and Owner Tyrone257 being the only members who started the season, but considering the Av’s were on the outside looking in for the majority of the season and ultimately found themselves taking the 6th seed, the moves that were made built an outstanding team which went 26-18 in the 2nd half and 15-5 over the last 20 games of the season.

Both of these teams have shown that they can score in bunches (Detroit 6th, Av’s 14th) and neither give up much (Av’s 8th fewest, Detroit 12th fewest) they both have shown a good ability at killing off opposing powerplays as they ranked 8th (Det) & 12th (Colo) but where they showed some separation is the ability to score while on the powerplay themselves as Detroit score on 32% of their PP chances while Colorado scored on 26% of their own…but even that number I would expect to be much closer now that Colorado has added Snipe_Snipe420 to the lineup who scored 14 of his 48 goals this season (in only 40 games) on the Power Play (29%)

Key Players – Detroit (vs Colorado)
Peerless – 3-6-9 (1.8 PPG), -4, 8 Shots, 23 Hits, 2 PPG, 1 GWG
Get_On_Ur_Knees – 6-4-10 (3.3 PPG) +5, 13 Shots, 8 Hits, 2 PPG
SoccaPlaya – 1-6-7 (1.4 PPG) -4, 11 Shots, 17 Hits, 1 GWG
Nevernavok – 0-1, 11 Saves, 14 Shots, 2.18 GAA, 78.6 Sv%

Rings - None

Key Players – Colorado (vs Detroit)
Nova1739 – 2-2-4 (1.3 PPG) -5, 11 Shots, 1 PPG
Malkin – 0-2-2 (0.6 PPG) -1, 1 Shot, 6 Hits
D_Sulli16 – 4-6-10 (5.0 PPG) +9, 10 Shots, 2 Hits
Penguins2013 – 2-2, 40 Saves, 51 Shots 2.51 GAA, 78.4 Sv%, 1 SO

Rings - None

Prediction – Colorado in 7

I think this one will go down to the wire and with the addition of Malkin & Snipe, the Av’s should have just enough offense to get through to the 2nd round

4 Phoenix Coyotes (55-22-5) Vs 5 St. Louis Blues (47-28-7)
Season Series – 3-2 Phoenix

Phoenix had the 3rd most points this season but fell to the 4th seed in the west thanks to being in the same division as President’s Trophy winner Dallas in a race that came down to the final game, St. Louis also was also in a race of their own which came down to the final game of the season as they had a chance to take the Central Division.

These two teams come in going in the opposite directions down the stretch as the Blues went 7-3 over their last 10 games while the Coyotes went 3-7 in their last 10 games.

Both teams have plenty of playoff experience although at different levels as the Coyotes Owner PNCPark2k1 won last season’s AHL championship while KoKo is one of 6 players that owns multiple Stanley Cup Championship rings and have 3 players who were part of the Blue’s S5 championship team, to make things even more intriguing about this matchup the Blues have last season’s Calder Trophy winner in CCPiper, while the Coyotes will more than likely have this season’s winner.

Both of these two teams use the same offensive strategy with the “Force & Reward” method, and both do it well as they were 5th (Phx) & 7th (StL) in scoring this season, and neither teams give up too many goals (7th & 14th), don’t let the fact that KillerRampage gave up an all-time NHL record 230 goals this season fool you, he also played the 2nd most games (78) in history trailing only Penguins 82 games played (also set this season), the biggest difference between the two teams was the ability to score on the Power Play, as the Blues scored on 35% of their chances while the Coyotes took advantage on 27% of their chances, if the Yotes can avoid taking penalties then they have a good chance of avoiding the upset as they excel at 5 on 5 play.

Key Players – Phoenix (vs St. Louis)
ix-Rain-iv – 9-7-16 (3.2 PPG) +7, 20 Shots, 2 Hits, 1 PPG, 2 GWG
L9L-Stamkos-L1LC – 2-3-5 (1.66 PPG) +8, 9 Shots, 4 Hits, 1 PPG, 1 SHG, 1 GWG
ReJectz_Reaperz – 6-5-11 (2.2 PPG) +7, 23 Shots, 5 Hits, 2 SHG
Mavcho39 – 0-4-4 (1.0 PPG) +4, 4 Shots, 29 Hits
Couture2Fat2Fly – 0-1-1 (0.33 PPG), +6, 9 Hits

Rings - None

Key Players – St. Louis (vs Phoenix)
R-Mean-IAN – 1-0-1 (0.33 PPG) -6, 9 Shots, 7 Hits
VegaRidge – 3-8-11 (2.2 PPG) -5, 20 Shots, 17 Hits
CCPiper – 6-4-10 (2.0 PPG) -7, 19 Shots, 6 Hits, 2 PPG
Salim919 – 0-2-2 (0.5 PPG) -3, 3 Shots, 4 Hits
GayPhish – 5-2-7 (1.75 PPG) -2, 13 Shots, 13 Hits, 1 PPG, 2 GWG
KillerRampage – 2-3, 41 Saves, 61 Saves, 4.00 GAA, 67.2 Sv%

Rings – R-Mean-IAN – 2, VegaRidge – 1, GayPhish - 1, Natey2k4 - 1

Prediction – Phoenix in 7

I think that while the Blues may be the better team as of late, but the Coyotes will nullify the Blues superior ability with the man advantage by staying disciplined throughout the series, and when it comes down to 5on5 the Yotes should be the better team, but if the Yotes do take a lot of PIMs in the series, I fully expect them to take advantage.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

1 Montreal (50-20-6)  Vs 8 Boston (42-35-5)
Season Series – 4-2 Montreal

The Montreal Canadiens are the quintessential Offensive Powerhouse of the VGNHL scoring a record 371 goals (4.52 per game) this season which obliterated the previous high by 65 goals, the team features two of the VGNHL’s all time highest scorers in Jay6219 (1st – 428) who set the new Single Season record in points (257) and BigYan_ (4th-381), Their 1st round opponent is the Boston Bruins who as everyone who plays in the league and isn’t living under a rock knows by now were near the bottom of the league for a good portion of the season and then stormed back with an amazing 2nd half which saw them climb as high as 6th in the East but ultimately took the 8th seed in the last week and Boston is absolutely no slouch in the Goals department themselves, the team finished the season 3rd in Goals (298) while averaging 3.63 per game, the Bruins offense was paced all season by Greekelite who’s no stranger to the score sheet as he’s the VGNHL’s 3rd highest goal scorer in history (387) and was joined by Ovechkin8jr who put up an incredible 71-83-154 in 43 games after being called up.

With all the scoring going on by these two teams, I honestly feel bad for the goaltenders on both sides, WVU7_Pens87 might be tied for the most Shutouts in VGNHL history (30) but I seriously doubt this series will have any low scoring games let alone a shutout.

All the talk with these teams is about scoring goals, but if you take a look at the other end you’ll see the biggest difference in this series, Montreal finished the season with the 10 fewest goals allowed (227/ 2.77 per game) while Boston finished in 17th (276/3.37 per game), this leaves Boston with two options, either try to outscore the Habs in a shootout all series long, or switch their play style and make a strong commitment to defense.

The good news for the Bruins is that Montreal took a ton of PIMS this season which saw them shorthanded 271 times (2nd most) where the Bruins have excelled this season after scoring on 31% of their Power Play chances, bad news is that Montreal also finished tied for 1st in the league with 27 Shorthanded goals including a VGNHL record 12 this season from Jay6219.

Key Players – Montreal (vs Boston)
BigYan_ - 14-11-25 (6.25 PPG) +14, 22 Shots, 13 Hits, 3 PPG, 2 GWG
RedDevil4202 – 4-11-15 (3.75 PPG) +4, 13 Shots, 1 Hit, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
Jay6219 – 12-16-28 (4.67 PPG), +11, 33 Shots, 5 Hits, 4 PPG, 1 SHG, 2 GWG

Herky321 – 2-3, 57 Saves, 78 Shots, 5.22 GAA, 73.1 Sv%

Rings – Herky321 – 1

Prediction – Montreal in 6

I think the Boston Bruins will be able to keep pace with the Habs in scoring for the most part, but the Habs have an advantage in net between WVU7 & Herky and that will be the biggest difference as I think WVU will be able to make some big saves, expect some high scoring games all series long, hope both teams have a few spare Red Lights in stock at the stadiums cause they are about to be worn the hell out.

2 Tampa Bay (48-24-10)  Vs 7 New Jersey (43-33-6)
Season Series – 3-2 New Jersey

For the 3rd consecutive season, the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the New Jersey Devils in the playoffs, except this year it’s the Lightning who come in with a high seed and are heavily favored as they are the defending Eastern Conference Champions.

These two teams met in the final game of the season where New Jersey not only took the season series, but also jumped up from the 8th seed to the 7th seed to set up this matchup.

Both teams feature goaltenders who are among the best in the NHL, Tampa Bay finished the season 3rd in fewest goals allowed while the Devils were 9th, the Bolts have S7 hero Vito_Corleone in net who looks to continue his playoff success after last year’s 13-6 1.53 GAA 88.1 Sv%, 3 SO performance, the Devils counter with Mesmerize in net who was the Starting Goaltender for the Eastern Conference in this season’s All-Star Game and much like his real life counterpart in Jersey has been carrying the team all season long.

The biggest difference between these two teams is the ability to put the puck in the net, the Lightning finished the season 10th with 257 goals while the Devils finished 18th with 235 goals, the Devils started off the season scoring goals with no problem as evident with the 10 goal blasting of yours truly but goal well seemingly dried up late in the season.

If the Devils are going to have any chance in this series the IICheckmateII and gang will need to find their Offensive mojo in a hurry.

Key Players – Tampa Bay (vs New Jersey)
Enceladus-Strike – 2-5-7 (1.4 PPG) +1, 14 Shots, 12 Hits
JewOfCanada – 2-0-2 (1.0 PPG) Even, 5 Shots, 7 Hits, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
ToSlick – 1-4-5 (1.0 PPG) +2, 7 Shots, 7 Hits
UreatheraFranklin – 0-1-1 (0.5 PPG) +2, 2 Shots, 20 Hits
DJonesWilKilU68 – 0-0-0 (0 PPG) -3, 3 Shots, 1 Hit

Rings – Enceladus-Strike – 1, UrethreaFranklin - 1

Key Players – New Jersey (vs Tampa Bay)
AceFive – 4-3-7 (2.33 PPG) -1, 11 Shots, 7 Hits, 2 PPG, 1 GWG
Mak-10Ten – 1-1-2 (1.0 PPG) +2, 9 Shots, 8 Hits, 1 GWG
IICheckmateII – 0-3-3 (1.0 PPG) -2, 8 Shots, 13 Hits
BidDog3382 – 0-2-2 (1.0 PPG) +2, 1 Shot, 10 Hits
Nemisis97 – 0-0-0 (0 PPG) +2, 3 Shots, 2 Hits

Rings – None

Prediction – New Jersey in 7

I think this series will go exactly the opposite of last season’s matchup and Mesmerize will steal the show in a series filled with low scoring affairs while the Devils get just enough offensive production to squeak by.

3 Philadelphia (48-24-7) Vs 6 Pittsburgh (43-32-7)
Season Series – 6-0 Pittsburgh

Out of all of the series being played in the 1st round, this is the only one which features a season sweep, it’s also the one that I had the hardest time gauging,  4 of the 5 games played were close until the final moments and I expect this series to play out the same way.

The Philadelphia Flyers started off the season having trouble scoring goals but picked it up big time at roughly the quarter mark of the season, they ended in 11th in the league in goals scored after being near the bottom of the league for a good portion of the season and 5th in fewest goals against, The Pittsburgh Penguins are also a fine offensive team in their own right as they ended 8th in scoring, but where the difference in the series could be is the Pens in 11th in fewest goals against, that might not be a big difference, but when it comes to the playoffs any difference could be a series changer.

The Penguins hit their stride at the perfect time as they come in 11-5 over the last 16 games but the Flyers have been 10 -6 over the same stretch, both teams finished with a 29% succession rate on the power play this season and nearly had the same PK rate (Pitt 73% to Philly’s 72%)

Key Players – Philadelphia (vs Pittsburgh)
IronMatt69 – 5-0-5 (1.0 PPG) -9, 14 Shots, 11 Hits, 2 PPG
Fluri37 – 0-7-7 (1.75 PPG) -8, 13 Shots, 2 Hits
Barrys_Snipin – 1-1-2 (0.66 PPG) -9, 4 Shots, 3 Hits
JPH_Venom – 0-2-2 (1.0 PPG) -1, 4 Shots, 4 Hits
SGill19 – 0-1-1 (0.2 PPG) -6, 5 Shots, 17 Hits
VanillahGorilla – 0-5, 77 Saves, 98 Shots, 3.38 GAA, 78.6 Sv%

Rings – Barrys_Snipin - 1

Key Players – Pittsburgh (vs Philadelphia)
Jeff0012 – 8-5-13 (2.17 PPG) +9, 28 Shots, 22 Hits, 2 PPG, 4 GWG
SmokeShowJoe – 3-7-10 (2.0 PPG) +8, 19 Shots, 14 Hits, 1 GWG
Jezuz422 – 1-1-2 (0.4 PPG) +6, 11 Shots, 11 Hits, 1 PPG
FoxPresentation – 1-4-5 (1.25 PPG) +6, 5 Shots, 16 Hits

Rings – Jezuz422 -1

Prediction – Philadelphia in 6

In the regular season the series was all Pittsburgh and one would think that after 6 games it would be easy to pick them against Philly, but for some reason I have this strange feeling that Philly’s Offense will come up big in the series.

4 Ottawa (46-31-5) Vs 5 Carolina (46-33-3)
Season Series – 4 -1 Carolina

The Ottawa Senators come into the playoffs on a huge upswing as they have 1 loss since the Holiday Break and take on the Carolina Hurricanes, it’s quite fitting that these two teams would meet in the playoffs after the highly debated trade that took place between the two earlier this season and now we’ll get a definite answer as to which team won the trade, to add even more history to this battle, both GM’s were former co-workers and led the S6 Ottawa Senators which won the Stanley Cup.

Carolina took the season series between the two including both games after the trade but the teams have not played since Ottawa went on their 14 game tear.

Both teams can light the lamp with ease as Carolina was 2nd in the league in Goals while Ottawa was 4th, problem is they both give up as much as they get with Ottawa finishing in 16th for Goals Allowed and Carolina not far behind in 18th in a season which saw both teams starting Goaltenders put up below league average numbers.

I feel the biggest factor in the series will be Carolina’s discipline, the Hurricanes had the 7th most Penalty minutes in the league this season while the Senators led the league in Power Play Goals, The Canes finished the season in 4th in PPG’s but that was mostly due to Mudd_Flaps who scored 19 of Carolina’s 72 PPG’s (26.3%) this season.

If the Canes give the Sens a lot of time with the man advantage than they won’t have a chance but if they can stay out of the box and keep it 5 on 5 then this one will be close.

Key Players - Ottawa (vs Carolina)
T_27_C – 4-12-16 (3.2 PPG) -1, 12 shots, 11 hits, 1 SHG, 1 GWG
Mudd_Flaps – 3-2-5 (2.5 PPG) -4, 4 shots, 2 hits
Bones955 – 4-10-14 (2.8 PPG) -1, 11 shots, 3 hits
DirtyJoe07 – 1-3, 41 saves, 58 shots against, 4.26 G.A.A, 70.7 Sv%

Rings – DirtyJoe07 – 1, RustyTrombone7 - 1

Key Players – Carolina (vs Ottawa)
XxMadmax94xX – 5-5-10 (5 PPG) +4, 8 shots, 7 hits, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
Karlsson_MVP – 4-5-9 (3 PPG) +4, 18 shots, 9 hits, 1 PPG, 1 GWG
GoodLuckGinger – 2-3-5 (2.5 PPG) +4, 7 shots, 2 hits
TheBigSpoon97 - 0-3-3 (1.5 PPG) +2, 2 Shots, 11 Hits
Believe_Vlady – 3-0, 22 saves, 32 shots against, 3.31 G.A.A, 68.8 Sv%

Rings – Karlsson_MVP – 1, Booger0310 - 1

Prediction – Ottawa in 6

If this series was played earlier in the season I would have picked Carolina, but with the way Ottawa has been playing as of late I feel they will be the stronger of the two teams even with the previous history.
I expect Mudd to have a big series, especially on the Power Play.

(Carolina’s stats are incomplete due to game stats not being reported for the game on November 7th)

Agree with the preview, disagree, wanna tell me I'm a friggin retard for writing this 4200+ word article, feel free at http://vghl.canadian-forum.com/t16885-vgnhl-1st-round-preview#130094

PHL PLAYOFF PREVIEW
BY:Sazer15

EAST

Peterborough Petes (1) vs Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (4)
Last 10 (7-3-0)                       (1-8-1)

The Armada have been on quite the losing streak as of late, the had a change in management and quite a few forfeits. They do have the advantage over the Petes with 4 wins and 3 losses in the regular season. BBA led by LeeMalvo who is averaging 1.77 goals per game and goalie krNfx-32 who was having an outstanding week on a not so outstanding team. While the Petes are led by Juggalotus92 who has 47 points this month and was averaging 3 PPG in the last week. In net for the Petes is  xi-moneyshot-ix or XxBaseball_EHXx, moneyshot has a 1.64 GAA and a .887 SV% followed closely by baseball who has a 3.27 GAA and a .750 SV% last week. Look for the puck to be on Juggalotus’s stick and for him to have an outstanding play offs.

Predictions: Petes win in 4

Mississauga Steelheads (2) vs Halifax Mooseheads (3)
(5-4-1)                                                           (8-2-0)

“They KILLED the last two weeks of the season. No one has given them any credit. No one on their squad has said shit. They quietly took over the conference and stole 3rd place from BBA.”
-Anonymous
The Mooseheads have been on fire for the last 2 weeks they are led by Sazer15 who has 31 points in the last 10 games and Sfic16 who is averaging 4 PPG. Look for Halifax to come out strong and not look back. They continue their hot streak through the playoffs they will be difficult for any team to take down. Looking at the Steelheads,  lead by leafs4life22 averaging 2.17 PPG in the last 6 games. In net they have SVNickNitro and your_anis who will need to step up in a major way to stop the Halifax attack.

Prediction: Mooseheads in 6

WEST

London Knights (1) vs Portland Winterhawks (4)
(8-1-1)                      (3-4-3)

The Knights are solid everywhere right now, at forward they have FreHzeR averaging a whopping 5.18 ppg and ScottyBoy55 averaging 4.78 ppg. Can anyone stop that duo? And to make matters worse for Portland, recently appointed Captain QcFinezt_KnHL is 10-2 in the last 12 games and has a 2.68 GAA. Portland Captain Dieryck218 is going to have to step up his game if he want to get passes the Knights. gobelet_30 also needs to step up his game in net if he wants to stop the knights dynamic duo.

Prediction: Knights in 5

Edmonton Oil Kings (2) vs Prince Albert Raiders (3)
(8-1-1)                                (7-3-0)

Edmontons offence has been coming mostly from Capsrock1 averaging 3.25 ppg and cjsinclair7404 averaging 2.91 ppg. They will need to stay on their 8-1-1 roll to take this series and goalie talint will have to continue his dominance over the league with a 1.96 GAA and .814 SV% to keep the games close, because on the other side of the ice  he will have some major players coming at him. gointodashow71 is averaging 4.57 PPG in the last 7 and  Disturbance420 averaging 2.63 PPG. The raiders need to sure up their goalie position though, with their top Goalie also being one of their top scorers. Will the Raiders find players to step up? Will the pressure get to the Oil Kings? Only time will tell

Prediction: Oil Kings in 7

AHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By:T-MAN-13-RHP

Sunday, January 12th

CHAR. CHECKERS VS ADK. PHANTOMS
Charlotte is coming into this week with one of their key pieces in mesposito12 who got ELC’d. Charlotte is down 8 points of their division lead and are looking at a very tough first round matchup against Albany who has been hot. Adirondack is only 2 points up in their division. This could possibly be a first round matchup based on what happens in the coming week. Adirondack will have to stop the high powered Charlotte offense to win, which is led by deadlykush204 and BossRoss12. A good matchup as this game has play-off implications and should certainly bring a play-off atmosphere.

Monday, January 13th

GR. GRIFFINS VS SPR. FALCONS
Grand Rapids is currently the number one team in the AHL. They are sitting at 108 points and are looking to finish atop the AHL. GRR has the lowest GA in the AHL with 152 over 74 games played, with a GAA of 2.05. Springfield is sitting at 90 points and is looking to move up to the fourth spot in the West. The Falcons bolster a much better offense than GRR with 284 goals for. Can rcgloe lead the offense to beat the top ranked team in GRR, or will the sobo’s just shut them down?

Wednesday, January 15th

NOR. ADMIRALS VS POR. PIRATES
Norfolk and Portland are only separated in their division by 2 points. This game has great implications on the play-off race as with a win Norfolk could tie Portland (based on the week’s events). Mcleve913 looks to keep up the push on offense, just as chitownmenace will lead his Pirates on the score card. Two very even teams who have battled throughout the season. Norfolk is 4-1 against the Pirates and look to win this to put themselves into first in the division. Will chitownmenace rally his troops to win? Or will mcleve913 keep up the dominate play against the Pirates?

Thursday, January 16th

CHI. WOLVES VS OKC. BARONS
The last day of the VGAHL regular season is a rescheduled matchup from January 2nd. Chicago and Oklahoma City is sitting 7th and 8th respectively and only separated by three points. Currently the series between these two is sitting at 2-1 for OKC. OKC is led by sinneront on offense who needs to have a big game to win this one for the Barons to have a chance against the new look Wolves. Chicago has added many pieces from their original roster but with scrapingurice coming down from the NHL this week, expect the blue line to be solidified at least for this week. This game could dictate who ends up playing Grand Rapids in the first round.

PHL GAMES OF THE WEEK

By:Sazer15

Sunday, January 12th

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies vs Halifax Mooseheads
This is a must win game for both teams. Halifax is sitting in the coveted 4th place spot in the west and the Huskies are just behind them in the 5th place position. The Huskies will not only look to their owner night_hawk_89 for not only inspiration but also points. The Mooseheads need star Dman Papa-pilo to lock his game in and goalie G4threepwood to play outstanding if they want to be competitive in this game and throughout the week. This should be a great game on both sides but with the Mooseheads stellar 5-2-1 week and a big win over the Huskies last week i would look for them to pull ahead quickly and not look back.

Monday, January 13th

Halifax mooseheads vs Charlottetown Islanders
Another must win game for both teams with the Islanders also 6 points back from the Mooseheads this one looks to be a nail bitter. The islanders will need their defense to step up. The Mooseheads with the loss of Nick7prea look to find offense from recent pickups PsychicOctopus, LILTIL9 and Sharper8 and look for their vets Sfic16, Ziplack421 and Wendel_Clarckson to step up big and win this game. I foresee a hard fought game but coming off of last weeks 3-4 OT win Halifax should pull this one off and keep control of 4th place.

111 VGNHL Week 12's Power Rankings on Sat Jan 11, 2014 2:26 pm

Every week the VGHL’s news team will bring you a Power Rankings list with a small recap of the preview week’s games, as well as a preview into the next week’s games, with the holiday break this issue will cover the holiday week as well as last week
NHL Power Rankings – Week 8 (December 22nd 2013 – January 9th 2014

1 – Phoenix (52-17-5) (Clinched Playoff Spot)
Since last Ranking: 10-3-1
Last Ranking – 2nd
The Coyotes took the lead in the President’s Trophy race and are 7 points up over Dallas, with only 8 games remaining the Yotes can clinch on Wednesday but it will more than likely come down to the final day of the season,
GM PNCPark2k1 has an excellent chance to take home some hardware come award time.

Games Remaining: Calgary, Colorado, Detroit, Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles, Columbus, St. Louis

2 – Dallas (50-21-3) (Clinched Playoff Spot)
Since last Ranking: 5-6-1
Last Ranked – 1st
Dallas held the lead in the Pacific division for the majority of the season but now find themselves with the 4th seed in the West after going 2-5-1 last week, they will basically have to run the table to get that top seed back.

Games Remaining: Minnesota, Edmonton, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Anaheim, St. Louis, Columbus

3 – Montreal (49-18-6) (Clinched Playoff Spot)
Since last Ranking: 8-2-2
Last Ranking – 3rd
With the top seed in the East all but locked up, the Canadians look to finish out the regular season on a strong note, and will have to do it against with 8 out of the remaining 9 games against teams that are fighting for their playoff lives.

Remaining Games: Boston, NYI, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Boston, Buffalo, Ottawa, Florida, Carolina

4 – Calgary (45-19-10)
Since last Ranking: 8-4-0
Last Ranking – 4th
Calgary finally saw their VGNHL records of 18 game winning streak & 21 consecutive games without a regulation loss snapped at the hands of the LA Kings, after a 4-4 week the Flames have seen their chances of taking the President’s Trophy slip away but can still clinch the Northwest Division and the 2nd seed in the West on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Games Remaining: Phoenix, Columbus, Anaheim, Edmonton, Minnesota, Colorado, Chicago, Detroit

5 – Tampa Bay (43-21-9) (Clinched Playoff Spot)
Since last Ranking: 7-5-0
Last Ranking – 5th

The Lightning pulled out a 5-2 week to keep their lead on the 2nd seed in the East thanks in part to some big games out of Vito Corleone who posted a 4-1, 2.26 / 82.3%, Tampa can clinch the Southeast Division as early as Tuesday.

Remaining Games: Winnipeg, Boston, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Florida, Winnipeg, Carolina, New Jersey, Philadelphia

6 – Philadelphia (43-24-6)
Since last Ranking: 7-4-1
Last Week – 6th
Philly has been on fire during the 2nd half of the season, they produced a 6-2 week and at this point have all but assured themselves the Atlantic Division title as they can clinch as early as Tuesday, with 8 games remaining the Flyers will either take the 2nd or 3rd seed in the playoffs, the seed though might very well be decided in the Regular Season Finale against Tampa Bay.

Remaining Games: Florida, Montreal, Boston, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, NYI, Winnipeg, Tampa Bay

7 – Detroit (43-26-4)
Since last Ranking: 6-5-1
Last Ranking – 7th
The Red Wings had a mini slide this week going 3-4 which included upset losses to Chicago & Columbus, those two games could come back to haunt the Wings if they cannot hold on to their 1 point lead in the division, if they take the Central Division they get the 3 seed, if not they could be as low as the 8th seed in the extremely tight Western Conference.

Remaining Games: Florida, Edmonton, Anaheim, Phoenix, Columbus, Chicago, St. Louis, Minnesota, Calgary

8 – Edmonton (41-26-7)
Since last Ranking: 9-3-1
Last Week – 15th
In a story of two halves, the Oilers have made a big push up the rankings and are now 29-13-4 since KyleJ83 moved from D to Right Wing, he’s posted an outstanding 58-62-120 in the 44 games he’s played in that time, things are going to be very interesting in Edmonton during the last week as they play all three teams they are fighting against for the 5th seed in the west on the last two days of the season.

Remaining Games: Detroit, Dallas, Columbus, Calgary, Colorado, Minnesota, Anaheim, Los Angeles

9 – Los Angeles (40-25-9)
Since last Ranking: 8-4-0
Last Ranking –9th
Considering the Kings were 11-17-4 after the games on November 17th and now they are in top 10 in points, it’s been a pretty outstanding turnaround in LA, if they would have gotten better bounces earlier in the season maybe some of those 10 losses by 1 goal would have been wins and we might have been talking about them fighting for the division title during the final week instead of fighting for the 5th seed.

Remaining Games: Columbus, Chicago, Minnesota, Dallas, Anaheim, Phoenix, Colorado, Edmonton

10 – Ottawa (40-29-5)
Since last Ranking: 11-1-0
Last Week – 19th

After barely hanging on in the past few weeks, the Senators head into the final week of the season after winning their last 10 contests which included 6 games against other playoff hopefuls and another game which was an absolute destruction of Buffalo in a 12-1 victory, with T_27_C & Mudd_Flaps both posting identical 15-16-31 slash lines in 8 games last week the Offense appears to be clicking at the right time, if this keeps up they are going to be a difficult opponent for anyone in the Playoffs.
Remaining Games: Winnipeg, Florida, New Jersey, Buffalo, Boston, Montreal, Pittsburgh, NYI

11 – Carolina (41-31-2)
Since last Ranking: 6-6-0
Last Ranking – 10th
The Hurricanes have a relatively secure spot in the playoffs as it would take a major collapse in the final week to keep them from getting an invite to the dance, but aren’t exactly playing at their best as of late and it could cost them a top 5 seed, they split the eight games last week and have big games against NJD/BOS/NYI & FLA in the final week.

Remaining Games:  New Jersey, Boston, NYI, Winnipeg, Florida, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Montreal

12 – Minnesota (42-29-3)
Since last Ranking: 7-4-1
Last Week – 12th
The Wild had a confusing week after getting big wins against conference foes Dallas, Edmonton, Colorado & Detroit, but ended the week by losing 3 out of their last 4 games, Three_Eleven07 carried the offense by putting up 15-10-25.

Remaining Games: Dallas, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Colorado, Calgary, Edmonton, Detroit, Chicago

13 – St. Louis(41-26-7)
Since last Ranking: 4-5-3
Last Ranking – 8th
The freefall continues after another poor week for the Blues after posting a 4-3-3 record but those 3 points gained in the OTL’s have kept them in the hunt for the Pacific Division title, the good news is they have games remaining against Anaheim, Chicago & Columbus, but the bad news is they face Detroit, Dallas & Phoenix in the final three games

Remaining Games: Anaheim, Minnesota, Colorado, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix

14 – New Jersey (39-30-5)
Since last Ranking: 5-6-1
Last Ranking – 11th
The Devils have had a massive letdown in the 2nd half, after being in prime position in the 1st half they now find themselves fighting to stay in it, they ended the week with a 3 game winning streak and will need to continue it in the final week as they play 6 of the final 8 games against playoff hopeful teams.

Remaining Games: Carolina, Buffalo, Ottawa, NYI, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Winnipeg

15 – Boston (37-31-5)
Since last Ranking: 9-1-1
Last Ranking – 17th
I can’t believe I’m actually typing this, but after a 5-1-1 week the Boston Bruins are currently sitting in the 7 spot in the East thanks to an absolutely amazing turnaround, GreekElite leads the league in points in the 2nd half (54-64-118) and fellow forward Ovechkin8jr is 2nd (50-60-110), if the Bruins continue playing well in the final week then they are in the playoffs if not then things will get really interesting as they close out with 8 of their 9 games against playoff hopefuls including games against Pittsburgh & NYI on the final day of the season.

Games Remaining: Montreal, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Philadelphia, Montreal, Ottawa, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, NYI

16 – Colorado (38-28-7)
Since last Ranking: 7-4-0
Last Ranking – 13th
Colorado’s been hanging on all season long and entering the last week of the season sit just 4 points behind in the race for the 8th seed, the Av’s had a 7 game winning streak snapped and followed it with a crushing 3 game losing streak that saw them lose ground but still have a chance at making the playoffs as they end the season with games against 4 teams that sit directly ahead of them in the West, if there was a case of Win & you’re in this would be it.

Remaining Games:  Florida, Chicago, Phoenix, St. Louis, Minnesota, Edmonton, Calgary, Los Angeles, Anaheim

17 – Pittsburgh (36-30-7)
Since last Ranking: 6-5-0
Last Ranking – 16th
After a 4-3 week the Penguins hold the final spot in the playoffs for the Eastern Conference, It’s certainly been an interesting season in Pittsburgh and the final week will be no exception as they play 7 possible playoff teams.

Remaining Games: Buffalo, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Florida, Philadelphia, NYI, New Jersey, Boston, Ottawa

18 – Florida (34-32-6)
Since last Ranking: 4-7-0
Last Week – 14th
After splitting their six games last week, echoes of Season 7 must be creeping in for Florida as they once again find themselves entering into the final week of the season fighting for the 8th seed after being a top 5 seed in the East for the majority of the season, both Ballachick3 & Coorsi88 put up 10 points in 4 games last week but didn’t get much support from anyone else, if the Offense can pick it up during the last week they still have a chance since they have 2 games in hand, but if that doesn’t happen then it will be another “Just Missed” season.

Remaining Games: Detroit, Colorado, Philadelphia, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Winnipeg, Montreal, Buffalo

19 – New York Islanders (35-35-4)
Since last Ranking: 6-4-3
Last Week – 18th
The Isle’s sit 5 points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference after going 4-2-2 last week thanks to 17 points apiece for My_Glove_Ull_Luv & LayDownFool61, the Islanders have some big games this week and will basically need to win out to make the playoffs but if ChiTownMobstr doesn’t have a better week than his 3.44 / 76.4% performance last week, than I don’t see them making it.

Games Remaining: Montreal, Winnipeg, Carolina, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Ottawa, Boston

20 – Columbus (27-43-4)
Since last Ranking: 4-8-0
Last Week – 20th
A 3-5 week officially saw the Blue Jackets eliminated from playoff contention, Columbus has nothing left to play for other than possibly playing the spoiler role as they have 7 of 8 remaining games against playoff teams, if they steal a few of those games they could seriously affect the seeding in the West.

Games Remaining: Los Angeles, Calgary, Edmonton, Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago, Phoenix, Dallas

21 – Buffalo (23-41-9)
Since last Ranking: 1-9-1
Last Ranking – 21st
After last weeks 12-1 destruction by the Senators which resulted in the suspensions of both SirPaco & Murloc-Death for quitting, I’d say the shoe finally fell on this team.

Remaining Games: Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Boston, Carolina, Florida

22 – Anaheim (17-50-7)
Since last Ranking: 0-12-0
Last Ranking – 22nd
The Ducks come into the final week riding a 13 game losing streak which has included 3 consecutive Forfeits, I think it’s fair to say this team has given up on the season and is ready to move on to S9.

Remaining Games: St. Louis, Detroit, Calgary, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Dallas, Edmonton, Colorado

23 – Chicago (11-54-9)
Since last Ranking: 2-8-2
Last Ranking – 23rd
After a 2-6 week the Blackhawks finally reached the 10 Win mark, with 7 games remaining against playoff teams they have a small chance to play the spoiler role, Chicago needs to average 2.17 goals a game to reach the 150 goals mark as a team over the last 8 games, but considering how amazingly terrible the offense has been all season long (1.79 goals per game) I’m not sure if they will reach it.

Remaining Games: Colorado, Los Angeles, Dallas, St. Louis, Detroit, Columbus, Calgary, Minnesota

24 – Winnipeg (15-49-9)
Since last Ranking: 3-6-1
Last Ranking – 24th
With a 1-6 week, The Jets have shattered the VGNHL record for Most Goals Allowed in a single season with 358 and counting, there has been no commitment to Defense and shoddy goaltending all season long that included 35….yes I said THIRTY FIVE games which they allowed 5 or more goals and 3 games allowing 10 or more which included a league high 13 goals against in a loss to the Bruins on December 2nd.

Remaining Games: Tampa Bay, Ottawa, NYI, Buffalo, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Florida, Philadelphia, New Jersey

Congratulations are in order to the following players for setting new VGNHL records, ironically all of them were broken on the same night !

Danger-Rally - Most Shutouts in a single season.
Jay6219 - Most Goals in a single season.
Gaggan07 - Most Hits in a single season.
Mudd_Flaps - Most Power Play Goals in a single season.

Any time a single season record is broken, it shows how outstanding the individual has played but when you consider that their are still 16 games left in the NHL schedule it just shows how truly amazing Season 8 has been !

Chrome finished the week with a 5-0 mark along with a 1.00 / 85.7%, while throwing up 3 consecutive shutouts (10 period streak without a goal) against the Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues & Anaheim Ducks.

Honorable Mention

AHL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

BY:Bigtizzle

Forward: The AHL forward of the week goes to Rockford's Krypt_Keepa. Playing in all 8 games, Krypt scored 17 goals on only 35 shots (49%). He also added 14 assists, a +16, 6 powerplay goals, and 2 game-winning goals. He has certainly brought some life into the Ice Hogs.

Defense: A first time Dman of the week coming from a not so unfamiliar team; San Antonio's Atreyal. In 7 games played, Atreyal had 2 goals, 1 being a powerplay goal. He assisted on 9 others and posted a nice +7 on the week. The Rampage remain a force on top of the standings.

Goalie: Back for the second time, Albany's AHL_Allstar-3. Making his return to the potw charts since week 1, AHLAllstar went 4-1 on the week. He had a .890 SV% and a 1.60 GAA. Also a shutout versus Syracuse. The Devils have been streaking as of late. Honorable mention goes out to TIBOD68. The Heat's goaltender played all 8 games plus a reschedule in net for them last week. His record was 6-3. His modest 2.18 GAA and .850 SV% helped Abbotsford to one of their very few winning weeks.

PHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
By:xstcopleyx

Forward: gointodashow71 put up outstanding numbers this week making him 26 points in 6 games. It was an even 13 goals and 13 assists he put up this week with 2 of them being game winning goals and another to coming short handed. Honorable mention goes to Juggalotus92 with 21 points in 5 games.

Defense: With a whopping 11 assists and 2 goals in 13 games, Dougie1218 is this weeks defenseman of the week. Only spending 6 pims in the box this week, he kept his +/- at 9 helping his team 7-0-1 this week. And he had an outstanding 34 hits on top of all of that.

Goalie: QcFinezt_KnHL put up a .886 save percentage this week with only a 1.66 GAA and 1 Shutout. Putting up outstanding numbers yet again. He is keeping London well in the playoff push.

AHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By:TMAN

December 22nd

CHARLOTTE VS MANCHESTER
This game contains two teams going in opposites directions late in the season. With 20 games left the Monarchs find themselves 8 points behind another team who has struggled in Chicago. Manchester was 2-7-1 in their last 10 but are surely going to make a run for the eighth play-off spot. Charlotte sits fourth in the Eastern Conference and are 3 points out of first in their division and conference. They recently lost their best dman and one of the main reasons they stuck around besides their explosive offense, which of course is Orion_James. I could see Bree pulling her fellow Monarchs together and upsetting the Checkers.

December 23rd

BINGHAMPTON VS SAN ANTONIO
Binghampton is 6-4-0 in their last 10 and only 2 points out of 8th spot in the East as they go up against the number 1 team in the East in San Antonio Rampage. San Antonio is 8-2-0 in their last 10 and recently picked up the highly explosive oticz to go along with Rich2k8 and DaSn1pa. Which is by far one of the best if not the best line of forwards in the AHL. Binghampton has been hot, and hope to continue their push for a playoff spot in the final 20 games. This could be a possible first round matchup folks, so this may get interesting!

PHL GAMES OF THE WEEK

By:Sazer15

December 23rd

Edmonton Oil Kings vs Portland Winterhawks
After just recently pushing the Winterhawks out of second place and into third the Oil Kings are looking to stay in second and take this win over the Winterhawks. The Winterhawks still led by Dieryck218 who has 138 points in 38 games, it looks like the puck will be on his stick a lot for this one. I predict a close but demanding game in which the Winterhawks come away with a Victory.

December 23rd

Charlottetown Islanders vs Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
This is an important game for both of these teams as the playoff race heats up in the East both of these teams are not only within striking distance of each other but of that coveted 4th place spot. My prediction is a decisive Huskie win that will push them ever closer to the Mooseheads for that 4th place spot. Anything can happen when the playoffs het closer look for both of these teams to  make a run for 4th in the upcoming weeks.

Expect (2-2)

14- Rochester Americans (27-26-9)
Take the 14th spot this week are the Americans, they have 63 points on the season and are 3-6-1 in the last 10. This is what we have seen from the Americans after they had that really hot start in the first part of the season, they lead by HAT_TRICK_LEGEND who has 96 in 44 game. He is in 20th for scoring in the league.
Expect (2-2)

Expect (1-3)

Expect (1-3)

18- Chicago Wolves (29-31-2)
The Wolves have the number 18th spot this week. 2-7-1 in the last 10 makes up the wolves for the past 2 weeks. The broke their losing streak, but need to find something quick. They have 60 points for the season.
Expect (1-3)

19- St. John's Icecaps (22-31-9)
The ice caps have one of the worst last top as they are 1-9. With such a good start to the season the Icecaps really slowed down. With only 53 points for the season does the playoffs look out of reach?
Expect (0-4)

20- Manchester Monarchs (24-34-4)
With the 20th spot this week are the Monarchs, they have been use to being in the bottom half of the rankings the season. With the playoffs coming close, they Monarchs are looking in, and just might be out of reach.
Expect (1-3)

21- Abbotsford Heat (21-31-10)
The Heat have really picked it up in their last 10 they are 7-2-1. Will they hot streak continue, and if so is it enough to get a playoffs stop or will it just be to late for the Heat to get in?
Expect (2-2)

22- Iowa Wild (20-35-7)
The Wild take the 22nd spot this week, with a big trade getting goalie
T-MAN-13-RHP they drop him to waivers and are left without a #1 goalie. Like most teams in the bottom half is it just too late for the Wild to get into the playoffs, they are 2-7-1 in the last 10.
Expect (0-4)

23- Syracuse Crunch (18-40-4)
With the 23rd spot this week are the Crunch, they haven’t really bounce back, and with the playoffs coming close it isn’t looking like they have much hope. They are
4-6 in the last 10, and have one of the worst away records in the league.
Expect (1-3)

24- Texas Stars (13-45-4)
The Stars big story this week as they finally break their over one month losing streak! All jokes aside they starts are 3-6-1 in the last 10, but with the losing streak behind them does a new one dawn or do they win some games?
Expect (1-3)

116 VGNHL Week 9 Power Rankings on Sun Dec 22, 2013 5:20 am

Every week the VGHL’s news team will bring you a Power Rankings list with a small recap of the preview week’s games, as well as a preview into the next week’s games, it’s been a couple of weeks as yours truly has been extremely busy as of late so there’s a lot to catch up on

NHL Power Rankings – Week 8 (December 15th 2013 – December 19th 2013)

1 – Dallas (45-15-2)
Since last Ranking: 24-6-2
Last Ranked – 5th
The Stars went 5-3 last week thanks to some big games by Vezina Trophy shoe-in and possible Hart Trophy candidate Rally 1.29/89.2% 1 SO) again, Dallas put up 22 goals in their eight games (2.75 per game) but 12 of them came in two games against Chicago, the offense struggled to put the puck in the net in the other six games (1.67 per game) and were shutout by Colorado & Calgary.
If the offense doesn’t pick it up over the last 20 games, the Stars just might find themselves looking up in the race for the President’s Trophy and could wind up with a 4 seed in the Western Conference come playoff time

Games Remaining: Philadelphia, NYI, Detroit, St. Louis, St. Louis, Columbus, NYI, Detroit, Minnesota, Anaheim, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Ottawa, Buffalo, Minnesota, Edmonton, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Anaheim

2 – Phoenix (42-14-4)
Since last Ranking: 21-7-1
Last Ranking – 3rd
Phoenix went 5-1 last week with some stellar Defense to right the ship after having a bit of a slide at the start of the 2nd half of the season and have managed to keep pace with the Stars in the President’s Trophy race sitting just 4 points behind with 2 games in hand.
While the Yotes have one of the most difficult schedules to end the season, if they can continue to play at this pace they will have full control over their playoff seeding, as they play 15 out of the remaining 20 games against teams that are in contention for the playoffs

Games Remaining: Edmonton, Detroit, New Jersey, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Columbus, Columbus, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Calgary, Los Angeles, Dallas, Anaheim, Boston, Philadelphia, Calgary, Colorado, Detroit, Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles

3 – Montreal (41-16-4)
Since last Ranking: 17-11-3
Last Ranking – 1st
The Canadians seemed nearly invincible during the 1st half of the season but have been anything but since the start of the 2nd half, while still winning enough games to keep their lead in the Eastern Conference and can clinch their division this week, the Habs have lost more than double the games that they lost in the 1st half already, between a broken hand & a four game suspension, BIGYAN has only played in 15 out of 24 games and it has made a huge difference in the teams play, Jay6219 has continued to put up massive amounts of points but it clearly hasn’t been enough, what may save them is a very weak schedule to close the season

Remaining Games: Florida, St. Louis, Detroit, Winnipeg, Florida, Florida, Carolina, Detroit, Winnipeg, NYI, Ottawa, Boston, Anaheim, Los Angeles, NYI, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Boston, Buffalo, Ottawa

4 – Calgary (37-15-10)
Since last Ranking: 22-5-5
Last Ranking – 13th
The Calgary Flames are the biggest movers since the last power rankings jumping from 13th up to the 4th spot by going on a 16 game Point streak to take a 12 point lead in the North West division after being as low as 11th in the Western Conference earlier in the season, both McSlayer921 & iPlay2WinDaGame have put up 20+ points apiece in 8 games this week, since trading away CraftySnail680 and naming ChRoMe-USAF the starting Goaltender, thanks to a tremendous Defensive effort in front of him by ChuckieNZ meMack and company, he’s gone a perfect 12-0 and is 2nd in the league in G.A.A (1.39) & SO’s (5) in the 2nd half including a 3 game Shutout streak which possibly set a new VGNHL record (unconfirmed but still researching, it’s a lot of damn stats to go through ) this past week.
The Flames close out the season with what appears to be the toughest schedule in the league with 16 out of 20 games coming against teams which are in playoff contention

Games Remaining : Tampa, Carolina, Los Angeles, Chicago, Chicago, Detroit, Carolina, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Colorado, Minnesota, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, NYI, Phoenix, Columbus, Anaheim, Edmonton, Minnesota, Colorado

5 – Tampa Bay (37-16-9)
Since last Ranking: 18-8-6
Last Ranking – 7th
The Lightning went 5-4 last week while playing all eight games against teams who are in the playoff hunt, have opened an 11 point lead in the South East division and are only 3 points behind the Canadians for the 1 seed in the East, if Vito_Corleone can find his playoff magic from last season and close out the season strong they just might finish on top

Remaining Games: Calgary, Phoenix, Buffalo, New Jersey, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Buffalo, Boston, Carolina, Winnipeg, Florida, Columbus, Detroit, Boston, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Florida, Winnipeg, Carolina

6 – Philadelphia (37-20-5)
Since last Ranking: 22-9-1
Last Week – 14th
After a 5-3 week, The Flyers have had a big improvement over the 2nd half of the season and are now 3rd in the conference but are within striking distance of the top spot, thanks in part to owner Fluri37 , Barrys_Snipin and AHL callup Skillszy all averaging over 3 points per game & Captain JPH_Venom putting up 25 goals in the 2nd half the team has turn from a defensive team into an Offense to be reckoned with, if VanillahGorilla can return to his 1st half form, this might be the favorite coming out of the Eastern Conference especially considering what appears to be a soft schedule to close out the season

Remaining Games: Dallas, St. Louis, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Winnipeg, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Ottawa, Florida, NYI, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Phoenix, Florida, Montreal, Boston, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, NYI

7 – Detroit (37-21-3)
Since last Ranking: 19-12-3
Last Ranking – 3rd
Although they are playing under .500 hockey since the start of the 2nd half, The Redwings find themselves 1 point behind the St. Louis for the Central Division lead and close out the season with a very winnable schedule including 5 games against Buffalo / Winnipeg & Chicago which should make them the favorites in the division, if Peerless & Get_On_Ur_Knees can continue their recent production (2+ points per game) while getting more out of the rest of the lineup and Nevernavok can continue his steady 2nd half play (2.27 / 79.4%) than the division will be there’s for the taking

Remaining Games: Colorado, Calgary, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Buffalo, Montreal, Calgary, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Tampa Bay, Florida, Winnipeg, Chicago, St. Louis, New Jersey, Boston, NYI, Winnipeg, Florida, Tampa Bay

8 – St. Louis (37-21-4)
Since last Ranking: 16-15-2
Last Ranking – 2nd
Oh how the mighty have fallen, the Blues are surely feeling their name during the 2nd half of the season and after going a disappointing 2-6 last week, they have watched their one time commanding lead in the Western Conference slip away from them although they still hold a 1 point lead for the 3rd seed in the West, if they don’t turn it around soon they could find themselves in a spot they do not want to be in come playoff time, the Offensive production is drastically down, and Killerrampage has not had much Defensive help while posting a 2.80 / 73.5% (15th out of 25 goalies who have played atleast 10 games during the 2nd half)

Remaining Games: Montreal, Philadelphia, Edmonton, Dallas, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Edmonton, Anaheim, Detroit, Columbus, Chicago, Winnipeg, Carolina, Anaheim, Minnesota, Colorado, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit

9 – Los Angeles (32-21-9)
Since last Ranking: 22-5-5
Last Ranking – 17th
The Kings have had a huge turnaround in the 2nd half and all those bounces that were going against them in all those 1st half games are now going their way, aside from a 4 game losing streak, the Kings have been dominating almost everyone producing a 18-2-2 record (not counting the losing streak) and the biggest reason why in my opinion has been the play of SteelCityFan17 who’s posted 10-5 1.80 (3rd) / 84.7% (2nd) in the 2nd half to this point, everyone knows that when it comes to the playoffs, Defense wins championships and if the Kings keep playing they are at the moment, they will absolutely be a dangerous team to face for anyone

Remaining Games: Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Calgary, Colorado, Colorado, Edmonton, New Jersey, Calgary, Columbus, Phoenix, Anaheim, Dallas, Buffalo, Montreal, Columbus, Chicago, Minnesota, Dallas, Anaheim, Phoenix

10 – Carolina (35-25-2)
Since last Ranking: 15-15-2
Last Ranking – 7th
Since making the highly debated trade and switching from an Offensive team to a Defensive team, the Hurricanes have gone 6-8 and I can’t imagine this was how they saw things playing out at the time but if there is one person who shouldn’t be blamed for the slide, it’s XxMadmax94xX who’s put up 19 goals over 10 games since taking over as Carolina’s “Big Gun” on offense.
If they are to keep pace in the wide open Eastern Conference they are going to need a drastic improvement out of goaltender Believe_Vlady who’s 3.60 GAA is the highest among Goaltenders who’ve played at least 15 games in the 2nd half

Remaining Games:  Colorado, Calgary, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Buffalo, Montreal, Calgary, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Tampa Bay, Florida, Winnipeg, Chicago, St. Louis, New Jersey, Boston, NYI, Winnipeg, Florida, Tampa Bay

11 – New Jersey (34-24-4)
Since last Ranking: 13-17-2
Last Ranking – 4th
The Devils have hit quite a slide since the start of the 2nd half playing under .500 hockey including a poor 2-7 record last week with their only wins coming against the Senators, The offense can’t seem to get it going during the “outage” and has only produced 2.88 goals per game over the last 24 games, and only 2.11 over 9 games last week, the reacquisition of forward Acefive should return a spark upfront, but if things don’t turn around immediately they could find themselves with one of the bottom seeds in the playoffs after leading the Atlantic Division for the majority of the season

Remaining Games: Phoenix, Los Angeles, Boston, Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Boston, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, NYI, Colorado, Minnesota, Buffalo, Ottawa, NYI, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh

12 – Minnesota (35-25-2)
Since last Ranking: 16-16-0
Last Week – 9th
The last Power Rankings in Week 4 for had the Wild listed as a team that does nothing but win, but since that article Minnesota has seen its division lead erased and are now barely hanging on to a playoff spot in the West, the offense has struggled mightily over the 2nd half, they have been shut out 5 times in 24 games which includes 3 consecutive games against Columbus, Calgary & Edmonton (11th – 12th)
If the Stars are going to have any hope of holding onto a playoff spot in the West, Chrono526 & Three_Eleven07 are going to have to get some support from the rest of the lineup as they are the only players averaging over 1.5 points per game (2.05) in the 2nd half, well that or DragonSkull will have to turn into Rally.Jr and throw up basically a shutout every game

Remaining Games: Winnipeg, Ottawa, Anaheim, Detroit, Detroit, Chicago, Ottawa, Anaheim, Dallas, Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado, NYI, New Jersey, Dallas, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Colorado, Calgary, Edmonton

13 – Colorado (31-24-7)
Since last Ranking: 14-14-4
Last Ranking – 12th
At the time of the last Power Rankings, the Avalanche were 3 points behind for the division lead but have since lost a considerable amount of ground being 15 points behind in the Northwest Division, the good news for the Avalanche is they still find themselves only 1 point out of the 8th seed in the West, the Av’s have gone through an entire lineup change during the course of the season and the only holdover aside from Owner Tyrone257 & Captain Nova1739 is D_Sulli16, the Av’s could be an extremely dangerous team if all of the new parts can gel before the playoffs with new editions IIXMalkin_71XII who is up on an ELC contract IIXOSHIE_74XII  oOILLEST_XIII along with newest acquisition Snipe_Snipe_420 waiting in the AHL until his eventual call-up closer to the end of the season which sees Colorado play 13 games against possible playoff teams, including the last 5 games of the season against conference power houses Phoenix (4th) , St. Louis (3rd) , Minnesota (6th) , Edmonton (8th) & Calgary (2nd)

Remaining Games:  Carolina, Buffalo, Columbus, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Buffalo, Columbus, Chicago, Calgary, Edmonton, Minnesota, New Jersey, Florida, Chicago, Phoenix, St. Louis, Minnesota, Edmonton, Calgary

14 – Florida (30-25-6)
Since last Ranking: 17-13-2
Last Week – 13th
The last edition of the power rankings saw the Panthers barely holding on to the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference but have since moved up to 7th while getting within 1 point of passing Pittsburgh as well, it’s seems like BallaChick has figured out what was holding the team back when she retooled the roster during the All Star Break and has the team peaking at the right time after going 5-2 last week including two wins big over then Pens, if Roostaa can continue his above average play as of late and Coorsi88 can continue to carry the load offensively than the Panthers can find themselves in a good spot come playoff time
Oh and btw…. Aggro got a hat trick !

Remaining Games: Montreal, Edmonton, Anaheim, NYI, Montreal, Montreal, Buffalo, Anaheim, NYI, Philadelphia, Winnipeg, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Detroit, Colorado, Philadelphia, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Winnipeg

15 – Edmonton (32-23-6)
Since last Ranking: 19-10-2
Last Week – 16th
The Oilers have come alive during the 2nd half of the season which saw them go 11-1-2 over a 14 game stretch that pulled them back into the playoff race, the key piece to the puzzle was switching KyleJ83 from D to Right Wing where he has put up 30-32-62 in 23 games since, Edmonton holds a 1 point lead over Colorado for the 8th seed in the Western Conference with what may come down to two very important head to head games on Jan 8th & the last day of the season on Jan 15th  and has what appears to be a favorable schedule the rest of the way out

Remaining Games: Phoenix, Florida, Winnipeg, St. Louis, Anaheim, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Winnipeg, St. Louis, Detroit, Minnesota, Colorado, Calgary, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Dallas, Columbus, Calgary, Colorado, Minnesota

16 – Pittsburgh (30-25-7)
Since last Ranking: 13-15-4
Last Ranking – 10th
Things in Pittsburgh seem a bit calmer now that Daf isn’t raging out every 3.6 milliseconds and with the acquisition of Goaltender BMidg2121 the Penguins now actually have someone who can…ya know…actually stop a shot…but ironically now the Pens are having trouble putting the puck in the net as they have averaged 3.21 goals per game in the 2nd half, but a mere 1.76 per game in their 13 2nd half losses, if that doesn’t improve then they might miss out on a playoff spot which sees 5 teams battling for the last 3 seeds

Remaining Games: Los Angeles, Chicago, Carolina, Boston, Boston, Ottawa, Chicago, Buffalo, New Jersey, NYI, Philadelphia, Calgary, Edmonton, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Florida, Philadelphia, NYI, New Jersey

17 – Boston (28-30-4)
Since last Ranking: 23-8-1
Last Ranking – 22nd
Holy $*!% what a difference a few weeks makes, the Bruins went on an outstanding tear pulling themselves within striking distance of a playoff spot, thanks in part to Ovechkin8jr, since his call up to the NHL on November 20th he’s put up 46-54-100 over a 28 game span (3.57) and led the league in all three categories over that stretch which included a season high 12 point game against Winnipeg,
Now that Greekelite has someone to help him on Offense (38-49-87 3.22 per game over that same stretch) if the Bruins can make it into the playoffs, they appear to be one of the most dangerous teams in the East

Games Remaining: Chicago, Columbus, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, NYI, Columbus, New Jersey, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Ottawa, Montreal, Phoenix, Anaheim, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Philadelphia, Montreal, Ottawa, Buffalo

18 – New York Islanders (29-31-2)
Since last Ranking: 16-16-1
Last Week – 19th
At the time of the last power rankings, the Islanders were 3 points behind the 8th seed in the playoff race, and now they sit….3 points behind the 8th seed, at least they can say they are consistent, the Isle  made another change in net going with ChitownMobstr but the move may have backfired as he’s posted a 3.48 / 73.4% since being acquired but did have back to back 1 goal against games in his most recent outings, if the Isle are going to make the playoffs, Chi needs to continue this type of play rather than reverting to the former

Remaining Games: Anaheim, Dallas, Florida, Ottawa, Ottawa, Boston, Dallas, Florida, Montreal, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Minnesota, Calgary, Montreal, Winnipeg, Carolina, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia

19 – Ottawa (29-28-5)
Since last Ranking: 12-17-3
Last Week – 8th
The 2nd half has seen some good and some bad for the Senators as they have had quite a past few weeks, first the good which saw them pull out an omgwtfbbq steal of a trade when they acquired Mudd_Flaps who just happens to lead the VGNHL in All-Time Goals to go along side T_27_Cwhom has been among the league leaders in points all season long, then the bad kicked in when in a shocking move DirtyJoe07 earned the nickname “Dirtbag Joe” (and yes that’s saying it in a nice way compared to what everyone else is saying)  around most circles in the league when he fired former Captain Snipe_Snipe_420 with nine minutes left before the trading deadline ensuring that he could not be signed to an NHL contract for the rest of the season, the problem with all of this is, even though the Sens have two of the top forwards in the game, they are getting absolutely blasted in the Goals Allowed department in the 2nd half including a 10-2 loss to Montreal, a 6-1 loss to Boston, and 9 other games which saw them give up 5 or more goals, Joe’s currently sporting a 1-10 4.01 / 68.7% line in the 2nd half & AHL callup Xx1DR_Swagger1xX hasn’t fared much better in his NHL debut, if things don’t improve defensively in Ottawa quickly, the Sens probably won’t even make the playoffs, and if they do, I can’t imagine a long stay

Remaining Games: Detroit, Minnesota, Philadelphia, NYI, NYI, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Winnipeg, Montreal, Boston, Buffalo, Dallas, Chicago, Winnipeg, Florida, New Jersey, Buffalo, Boston, Montreal

20 – Columbus (23-35-4)
Since last Ranking: 11-19-2
Last Week – 18th
The Blue Jackets have pretty much played themselves out of a chance at the playoffs and would need a miracle to make it at this point after opening the 2nd half with a 2-9-1 record over the first 12 games which has put them 19 points behind the 8th seed as they have gotten virtually no production from the scoring department that has put up the 3rd fewest goals in the league throughout the season, the only thing they really have going for them is that they have 15 games remaining against division foes

Remaining Games: Buffalo, Boston, Colorado, Phoenix, Phoenix, Dallas, Boston, Colorado, Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Calgary, Edmonton, Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago

21 – Buffalo (22-32-8)
Since last Ranking: 12-16-4
Last Ranking – 21st
The Sabres sit just 11 points out of the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference but at this point are a long shot to make it, what has been weird about Buffalo this season is they will win a few games in a row and just when you think they might turn things around they go on a 5 or 6 game losing streak and destroy any progress made, the defense / goaltending over the 2nd half has been terrible at best as Sirpaco13 has a G.A.A near 5 and Postalmic is at 3.65, if one of them doesn’t drastically improve, then the season is over

Remaining Games: Columbus, Colorado, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Carolina, Florida, Colorado, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Boston, Montreal, Ottawa, Los Angeles, Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Boston

22 – Anaheim (17-38-7)
Since last Ranking: 8-20-4
Last Ranking – 20th
Anaheim has seen any chance to climbing back into the playoff race go out with the window in the 2nd half and have only 7 wins so far to this date, things have gotten so far out of hand that WeaselJosh has moved from Goaltender to Defense and has been replaced by Balboa1610 who has posted a 2.02 / 83.0% in limited action, there has been virtually no offense to speak of and have been held to 2 or less goals 13 times so far this half

Remaining Games: NYI, Florida, Minnesota, Edmonton, Edmonton, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, St. Louis, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Montreal, Boston, St. Louis, Detroit, Calgary, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Dallas

23 – Chicago (9-46-7)
Since last Ranking:6-26-1
Last Ranking – 24th
The Blackhawks easily have the worst Offense in the league as they have combined for a TOTAL of 108 goals this season, Jay6219 has 101 goals for Montreal on his own….that’s pathetically bad, season’s over, time to look forward to season 9

Remaining Games: Boston, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Calgary, Calgary, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Colorado, Columbus, Detroit, St. Louis, Carolina, Ottawa, Colorado, Los Angeles, Dallas, St. Louis, Detroit, Columbus

24 – Winnipeg (12-42-8)
Since last Ranking: 9-21-3
Last Ranking – 23rd

Even with a recent 3-6-1 record over their last 10 games, the Jets in my opinion are the worst team in the VHNHL and it started from the top as they, once again in my opinion were the worst ran team in the league which made head scratching moves from the start, they have trouble scoring, so what did they do, cut their best scorer…they can’t keep the puck out of the net, so they go and trade for the goaltender with the highest G.A.A in the league, if there is any franchise in the league that needs the season to end so they can start over it’s this one

Remaining Games: Minnesota, Edmonton, Montreal, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina, St. Louis, Columbus, Ottawa, NYI, Buffalo, Carolina, Tampa bay, Florida

I hope you've enjoyed this nearly 4000 word article, if you agree, disagree, think I'm retarded and should stop doing the rankings, make your opinion heard at http://vghl.canadian-forum.com/t16326-vgnhl-week-9-power-rankings#126353

NHL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Forward: KYLEJ83- 8 gp, 14 goals, 11 assists, 3.13 p/g, +2, only 2 PIMS, 5 powerplay goals, 4 game winning goals, 29 hits

Defense: SOCCAPLAYA11- 8 gp, 2 goals, 12 assists, 1.75 p/g, +5, 1 ppg, 1 shg

Goalie: DANGER_RALLY- 6-1, 1.10 GAA, .873 SV%, 2 Shutouts

AHL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
By:Bigtizzle

Forward: Deadlykush204 ripped apart the competition last week. He posted a season 8 weekly best 6.20 Points per game. Playing just 5 games, kush wrangled 14 goals, 17 assists, +22, 2 ppgs, 2 shgs, 2 gwgs, and 54% shooting. Charlotte is really snapping into form as we come down to the final 25 games left in the season.

Defense: Back to back weeks the honors once again go to Lemieux_Polamalu. The Checkers dman has been a huge part of their success in the defensive zone. Last week Lem played in 8 games. In those games he compiled 15 assists, a +26, and 15 hits. He averaged almost 2 assists per game. Lets see if anyone can solve the defensive pairing of Lem and Orion.

Goalie: One of the few PHL goalies that have graduated thus far, DK_Kassicus is this weeks goaltender of the week. DK, since being signed by the Rampage has been top 5 in goalies. last week he was undefeated, starting every game; 8-0. He averaged barely over a goal per game and had a .880 SV%. Also DK held 3 teams scoreless. IceCaps, IceHogs, and Wolves were all held without a goal vs Kassicus last week. Only a matter of time before he is putting up these numbers in the NHL. Honorable mention goes to nucks420van who was also 8-0 last week. nucks had a 1.83 GAA, a .852 SV%, and 2 shutouts vs Bridgeport and Chicago.

PHL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
By:xstcopleyx

Forward: vvillialvl is this weeks forward of the week boasting 26 points in 8 games, with 2 GWG.  With his 60% faceoffs, he is helping the Raiders go on a huge hot streak out of nowhere this past week.  Honorable mention goes to x0xvictoriousx0x.

Defense: This weeks defender of the week goes to Papa-Pilo.  He only had 5 points in 6 games, but he had an outstanding 38 hits playing as a primarily defensive only player.  Will he be able to help Halifax keep their playoff spot?  We will see in the weeks to come.

Goalie: xxDj_CyBeR_JaYxx posted up a 4-1 record this week with 2 shutouts.  He had an outstanding save percentage .859 and a GAA of only 2.01.  He helped turn the Guelph Storm around this week and give them a chance to compete for a playoff spot.

AHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By: T-MAN-13-RHP

December 15th

Charlotte Checkers VS San Antonio Rampage
Battle of #1 & #2 teams in the East based on points and in their Atlantic Division. San Antonio currently has two points on Charlotte, and San Antonio is on a 10-0-0 streak in their last 10 games. San Antonio is led by Rich2k8 and his assistant DASN1PA who are the top two scorers in the league. While on the other side deadlykush204 and mesposito12 are both in the top ten for scoring. Seems to be lots of firepower coming out in this game. With both teams having similar numbers in the goals against department. So let’s see how this shootout will go!

December 16th

Binghampton Senators VS Albany Devils
A battle between two teams that are on a roll. Albany is 7-1-2, and Binghampton is 7-3-0 all in the last ten games. Binghampton is only 3 points out of 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. They have had a solid few weeks and look to continue this. Their being led by Stellar-D-Man and Mc_Dreamyyyy and are eager to face AhL_Allstar-3 and lll_SENTINEL_lll in the Devils. Expect a much different game then the first four which have Albany up 4-0 and it’s been 23-6 in favor of the Devils.

December 18th

Norfolk Admirals VS Iowa Wild
Norfolk continue to be four points behind their division leaders in Portland, but they look to gain some ground in this matchup. Iowa is down near the bottom of the Western conference but have as of late picked up four players in T-MAN-13-RHP, vittyvito24, Acrobatic_beast, Whyme2003. The Wild are looking to make a push into the playoff race. Iowa is 4-1-1 in since they picked up their new players. Expect this one to be closer than you’d expect.

December 19th

Charlotte Checkers VS Manchester Monarchs
Manchester comes into this week is 2 points out of playoff spot. They have also been playing better as of late. Charlotte of course is one of the best teams in the East. We will see if either of these teams will make a major move to either certify their dominance in Charlotte or get a playoff spot in Manchester. If Manchester can win, they will be able to know they can beat anyone. Expect Bree to rally up her troops and make this at least close. If they don’t it could get ugly. The line of BossRoss, DeadlyKush, and Mesposito is one of if not the deadliest offensive lines in the AHL, if the Monarchs can hold them to a reasonable goal count, they have a shot to win.

PHL GAMES OF THE WEEK

By:Sazer15

December 15th

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies vs London Knights
The Knights look to right the ship and take a win over the huskies after a mediocre 5-3 week last week. Where as the Huskies are looking to capitalize on the Knights loss of ex-captain Elyndil and continue winning big games against big teams. This game will be a nail bitter and a defensive battle, but the Huskies will prevail.

December 16th

Edmonton Oil Kings vs Blainville-Boisbriand Armada
Edmonton is doing well sitting in third place in their division, This is a must win game for them because the Raiders are hot on their tail. I’m predicting an easy win for the Oil Kings because the Armada are on a terrible streak, It shouldn’t matter if the Armada decides to show up, this game will be a huge blowout for the Oil Kings.

AHL Power rankings Dec 8th-12th
(I just want to apologies for no last weeks power rankings. I have no excuse for not writing one up, once again I’m really sorry)
by: Mesposito12

1-Grand Rapid Griffins (38-10-6)
With the “King” spot this week is once again the Griffins who has just been on a tear for the past 3 weeks. With 82 points this season, and 1st in the AHL who will be able to stop them? This week they Griffins went 5-3 their 11 game win streak was ended they end the week off with a win. Also sobo18 is in 3rd in points for D with 54.
Expect (7-1)

2-Lake Erie Monster (36-11-7)
The Monster with the 2nd seed for this week power rankings. With 79 points this season, and only 3 points behind the league leader, what is in store for the Monsters? graham_scott is in 2nd for points and 3rd for goals as D, he has 56 points in 51 games. Last week the Monster went 6-2.
Expect (6-2)

3-San Antonio rampage (35-13-6)
With the number 4 spot is the Rampage, just on a roll there last 10 they are 10-0-0. Who can stop the Rampage on their tear? With the offensive gun firing on all slender we find rich2k8 and DASN1PA on the top for Goals and Points. They have a combined points total of 372. They also lead the league in +/-. With the Rampaged in 1st in the East, what is coming? Will the Rampage be able to hold down the fort or will the fall?
Expect (7-1)

4-Charlotte Checkers (37-15-2)
The Checkers take the 4th spot this week. They have been playing really well of late, not just one player too the whole team has been just rolling. Deadlykush204 and Mesposito12 have a combined points total of 271. Then on D Lemieux_Polamalu and Orion_james have a combined points total of 109 on D, and Orion_James leads the AHL +/- and Lemieum_Polamalu is in 2nd. Last week they went 7-1 due to an illegal roster vs the Crunch and are now 1 game behind of 1st in the East.
Expect (7-1)

5-Portland Pirates (33-13-8)
With the last spot in the top 10 with 74 points this season are the Pirates. With one of the better home records in the league with a record of 21-5-3, they just seem be Monsters at home. Last week the Pirates went 5-3 winning every game at home. Also leading the team is ChiTownMenace who is 5th for goals in the AHL and has 129 points in 49 games.
Expect (6-2)

6-Adirondack Phantoms (34-15-5)
The Phantoms taking the 6th spot this week, with 9-1 in their last 10 games they seemed to be a force through the league. With a big pick up in SNIPESHOW_21 who in 6 games picked up 27 points. Maybe that 6.25m contract is worth every penny. Also Captain xS7LENT_SN7PERSx and xTWINE_THRASHERx has been playing very well of late, and look for them to keep that going. The Phantoms have some new blood and everything seems to be clicking for them, look out for the Phantoms in the upcoming weeks.
Expect (6-2)

7-Norfolk Admirals (31-15-8)
This weeks 7th spot goes to the Admirals, last week they went 4-2-2. With one of the most OT losses in the league that may coast them in the long run if they cant seem to get it done when they have to play an extra period or two. Captain mcleve913 leads the team in points with 116 in 53 games. What is in store for the Admirals in the upcoming weeks, will the OT losses come back to bite them?
Expect (5-3)

8-Hamilton Bulldogs (30-16-8)
With the 8th spot and 68 points this season is the bulldogs. They went 6-2 last week. The big news for this team is llXMalkin_71Xll he was sent down for the NHL, and in his first week back he recorded 15 points in 5 games. He is playing on a line with Myles_Mayfield and usermike4948. With the 3 playing on one line, this could be on of the most deadly lines in the AHL of right now. Keep an eye out for the bulldogs.
Expect (6-2)

9-Providence Bruins (33-19-2)
The Bruins with the number 9th spot this week, they went 3-5 with 2 OT wins. Captain cody275 leading the team with 145 points in 53 games. He has been a all around leader for the bruins this season. The bruins had 1st place going into the week and with those 5 losses has moved them down to the number 3 spot. In the upcoming weeks what will happen, will they go back to that 1st place team or will they keep losing?
Expect (4-4)

10-Springfield Falcons (32-19-3)
With the last spot in the top 10 is the falcons, their last 10 they are 6-4. Rcgloe is leading the team by his even scoring and passing, he has a total of 126 points is 47 games. Also D man djcloudz has 46 points in 39 games as he is in 10th for points. Last week they Falcons went 6-2 and they end the week off in 3 nice wins. Will the falcons keep their win streak up?
Expect (5-3)

11-Albany Devils (30-18-6)
With the 11th spot is the Devils, last week the devils had a record of 6-1-1 with one OT win. Leading the team in goals is WARBC he has 70 points in 26 games. Also the man in the net AhL_Allstar-3 has a record of 29-22 with a SV% of .779 and a GG at 2.87. With the Devils in the next coming week what is in store for them?
Expect (4-4)

12-Bridgeport Sound Tigers (29-23-2)
The Tigers with the 12 spot this week, They have had their ups and downs all season and last week they had a record of 4-3-1. With some tuff games coming up, how will this effect the tigers in the standings, they are 7th in the East and 4 points ahead of the 8th place team. Leading the team on offence is jason_23 who has 76 points in 25 games.
Expect (5-3)

13-Rochester Americans (24-22-8)
The Americans have 56 points as they are 8th in the east, taking the 13th spot this week and having a last week record of 1-6-1. With the golden time behind them what is in store for the Americans? Can they keep their playoffs spot of will they fall under what use to be an amazing top team. Leading the team is
Expect (3-5)

14-Chicago Wolves (27-26-1)
The Wolves have the 14th spot this week as they went 0-7-1. The big story of this team is that they traded away their goalie T-MAN-13-RHP who has been their starting goalie all year. They got goalie Saicri who has not won a game for the wolves yet. But leading the team, and not giving up hope is the captain thevirus15 who has 123 points in 53 games.
Expect (2-6

15-Oklahoma City Barons (25-23-5)
The Barons are in 7th in the West as they have 55 points, and are 4-5-1 in the last 10. Last week the Barons had a record of 4-3 with one reschedule with the Heat. Leading the team on offense is Assistant captain Sinneront who has been their leader all season. He has 112 points in 47 games and has 63 goals putting him in the 8th spot for scoring.
Expect (4-4)

16-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (24-23-7)
With the 16th spot this season is the Penguins, they have 55 points as they are in 9th  place in the East. They are one point behind a playoffs spot. With still a lot of money to spend of PHL players, Captain sglieden19 makes a trade for blckhwk84 who has know to work well with each other.  Will this trade be the trade to start a fire for the penguins? Also Last week the Penguins has a record of 1-6-1. This some tough games coming up the penguins are really going to need to pull something out of the bag to win, and keep on track to be in the playoffs.
Expect (3-5)

17-Binghampton Senators (25-26-3)
Taking the 17th spot this week are the Senators, their play of late consists of wins, as they are 7-3 in their last 10. Last week they went 5-3 ending the week of In a nice 2 wins. Leading the team on offence is the captain Mc_Dreamyyyy who has been great for them all season, he has 124 points in 49 games. Also Stellar-D-Man who is in 18th for scoring for D, he has 6 goals with 31 points in 44 games. Will the Senators keep their win streak up? They are only 3 points out of a playoffs spot.
Expect(5-3)

18-Rockford Ice Hogs (22-25-7)
The 18th spot this week is the Ice Hogs, with a record almost under .500 they are still in a playoffs spot, they are in 8th only leading by one game. Last week with a record of 4-4 and a big upsetting win vs the Griffins should give the Ice Hogs some spark going into next week. Leading the team is Moja111 who has 76 points in 33 games. Will the Ice Hogs be able to keep with playoff spot or will the loses keep up with them.
Expect (3-5)

19-St. John's Icecaps (21-24-9)
The Icecaps have the 19th spot this week, their last week record is 0-6-2 and in their last 10 they are 0-7-3. Leading the team is Captain VIPERMAN29 who has been their leader all season and really has kept them in a decent spot to make the playoffs. He has 130 points in 48 games. Also he is in 7th for scoring with 63 goals. The man in the net is Assistant captain JOKER554 who has a record of 21-31 and has the most SA in the league. The icecaps are in a tuff division and really are going to need to kick start something soon or they can kiss their playoffs hope goodbye.
Expect (4-4)

20-Manchester Monarchs (23-28-3)
The Monarchs take the 20th spot this week in the rankings, they had been hovering around 20th and 13th all season. With a record under .500 and in their last 10 they are 6-4 maybe something is starting to click for them. The name that stands out on the Monarchs is the goalie mikefleury29 his play is one of the few reason for the Monarchs to be were they are. The team really needs to help him out in the long run.
Expect (3-5)

21-Iowa Wild (19-28-7)
The Wild have the 21st spot this week, as the big story is they trade off Saicri for
T-MAN-13-RHP. This has gone in the Wilds favor as Saicri has not won a game for the Wolves and T-MAN-13-RHP 4 games for the Wild. Maybe T-MAN-13-RHP can turn things around for the Wild, and maybe even bring them to a playoffs spot. T-MAN-13-RHP has a record of 30-21 and a SV% of .768 and a GGA of 3.55. what’s to come for the Wild with their new goalie?
Expect (5-3)

22-Abbotsford Heat (15-29-9)
The Heat take the 22nd spot this week. They haven’t done good all year and have one of the worst road record in the AHL. They are 5-18-4 on the road, last week they had a record of 3-4 as they have a rescadual game vs the Barons. A big win this week as they beat the Bruins 4-2, and if you’re trying to take the positive out of last week then that’s a start.
Expect (2-6)

23-Syracuse Crunch (15-35-4)
The Crunch with the 23rd spot as they 2-4-2 as they beat the checkers from an illegal roster. They were on a 3 game losing streak until that game but they end the week off in a loss. They did have a week and a half of playing really well, but now have slowed down.
Expect (2-6)

24-Texas Stars (10-41-3)
The stars have the last spot this week. They have gone 0-10 in their last 10, and it just seems to have nothing going right. The Stars have not won a game in over a month. That’s about 25-29 games without a win. Will the stars win a game?  Or will they lose for the rest of the season.
Expect (0-8)

VGHL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Week of December 1st-5th

NHL POTW

FORWARD: TBD

DEFENSE: TBD

GOALIE: TBD

AHL POTW
By:Bigtizzle

FORWARD:
The Rampage retain their forward of the week streak. DASN1PA takes a back seat this week to linemate, Rich2k8. In 8 games played, Rich managed 13 goals and 16 assists. Averaging 3.63 points per game and a sweet 45% shooting, it's near impossible to stop the Rampage right now. Maybe trying to slow them down is a better option.

DEFENSE:
The dman of the week goes to a guy who has really earned it over the entire season, Lemieux_Polamalu. Starting every game at RD for the checkers, Lem scored 1 goal and 14 assists this week with a modest +3 and only 2 minor penalties. The allstar is really proving his worth to his team and has CHAR in the top half of the AHL.

GOALIE:
lx-J-o-n-e-Z-xl take this weeks netminder award. A very impressive week for Jonez, 5-3, 1.60 GAA, .869 SV%, and 2 shutouts. His 2 shutouts were against the Penguins and Ice Hogs. Jonez is having a great season thus far. You might see him back here again.

PHL POTW
By:xstcopleyx

Forward:
Oticz scored 29 points in just 6 games this week with a +/- of 6.  That’s 4.83 ppg folks!  His 41 shot % makes him one of the most accurate forwards in the PHL.  He shows great discipline with only 4 pims this entire week.  He and this London Knights team really made a statement in the numbers they put up this week in the forward positions.  Honorable mentions go out to Dieryck218 and ryno1354.

Defense:
This week’s defenseman is none other than Lainger1989.  He put 7 points in 5 games helping out the already struggling cougars offense and was +1 this week while laying out 36 hits and only 6 pims.  He is a bright spot for the cougars, and hopefully will help them turn in the right direction in the weeks to come.

Goalie:
It was a close one this week in net, but my choice this week is QcFinezt_KnHL.  He put up astounding numbers consisting of a .886 save percentage and a GAA of only 1.25.  This helped him go 4-0 this week with 1 shutout.  A close second was gobelet_30 who put up a .860 save percentage with a GAA of 2.12 going 3-0.

VGHL GAMES OF THE WEEK

NHL GOTW

Phoenix Coyotes at Dallas Stars (9:30PM)
There are several good matchups on the schedule Sunday night, but none better than Phoenix vs Dallas. Two of the league’s top teams will go head to head yet again, with Danger’s Stars looking to take advantage of home ice. Only one problem – the Coyotes play their best hockey on the road. With an incredible 20-2 road record, it’s probably more likely that home ice won’t play a major factor in this one. Both teams enter Sunday with strong records over their last 10: Phoenix with a 9-1-0 record, Dallas 7-2-1. Looking forward to finding out who wins this one, as well as the obligatory anti-Bunny tweet from the Coyotes twitter if they come out on top!

Monday, December 9, 2013

Detroit Red Wings at Philadelphia Flyers (10:30PM)
The Flyers host the Red Wings in a battle of two interconference teams looking to solidify their positions as playoff contenders. The Red Wings have been slumping the last several games, going just 4-5-1 in their last ten. Once thought as a shoe-in for the Western Finals, Detroit now sits in just 5th place. Meanwhile the Flyers have gone 7-3-0 over the same stretch and have battled their way into third place in the conference. Most likely, both teams are bound for the post-season, but how long either lasts is up in the air.

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Tampa Bay Lightning at Detroit Red Wings (9:30PM)
Speaking of Detroit, they’ll host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday in the first meeting between the two teams this season. The friendly rivalry that has developed between Peerless and Jew will be put to test in this one, although there has been talk that Peerless will not be able to play this one. In any event, the Lightning need the win as they look to get things back on track after a rough patch over the last few weeks. They currently rank second in the Eastern Conference, but depending how things go on Sunday and Monday, could be much lower by the time this matchup rolls around. The good news for Tampa Bay: Detroit is just 12-11 at the Joe.

Thursday, December 12, 2013

Edmonton Oilers at Minnesota Wild (10:30PM)

The Minnesota Wild have surprised a lot of folks this season, surging to the top of their division and therefore third place in the Western Conference. To this point, they’ve proved a lot of doubters wrong and have earned several significant wins, including two over the same Oilers earlier in the season. However, Edmonton is never an easy game, and the spotlight is always extra bright when Hemmertime and Co. come to town. The Oilers have a chip on their own shoulders as well, as they continue to produce mediocre results based on recent standards – is it still fair to call them a powerhouse? Only time will tell, but right the Wild are the hotter team.

Sunday, December 8th

NORFOLK VS PORTLAND
A game of division rivals takes place in this game. Norfolk is a miserable 3-5-2 in their last ten while Portland has stayed on an even keel, if you can say that going 6-2-2. In 8 games played last week polynomc tallied 20 points as Portland’s leading scorer last week. On the other side mcleve913 scored 17 points in 8 games. Chitownmenace was the league’s leading scorer last week (tied with two others) at 13 goals. This will be a tough match for both of these teams and the two points are needed in their division race.

Monday, December 9th

CHARLOTTE VS CHICAGO
Second matchup this season between these two squads. The Checkers are 2 points behind the Eastern Conference leading Providence Bruins. Charlotte has been one of the biggest surprises of the year so far. Chicago is just plain hot right now. 7-3-0 in their last 10 and on a five game winning streak, and went 6-2 last week. They are sneaking up the standings fast, all thanks to the outstanding play of thevirus15 (8 games 19 points last week) and T-MAN-13-RHP (6-2 3.25 GAA). Expect a very close game.

Wednesday, December 11th

BINGHAMPTON VS GRAND RAPIDS
On paper this game doesn’t look close, but showcases the league’s best team and a team that is on the rise. Binghampton is looking to make a late season push to the playoffs, and if they want to have a chance at that they have to stay with the big boys of the league. This is a great matchup for Mc_Dreamyyyy and his crew. Grand Rapids is looking to continue their dominance and continue their pursuit towards a league title. This game will not only be a thrilling high paced game but will show whether Binghampton can hang with the big boys.

Thursday, December 12th

NORFOLK VS PORTLAND
These two teams faced off earlier this week. The reason they were picked again is if Norfolk wins both, they gain four points on Portland and could put them into a possible tie at the end of the week. Captain Mcleve913 said “Personally I think it'll be a tough battle, as always. I believe we're getting it back together after some roster changes, and hey we're 2-0 against them why not make it 4-0. “ We will see how this game plays out but it will definitely be a thriller.

Mississauga Steelheads vs Portland Winterhawks

The Steelheads are looking to get back on track after a disappointing 3-4-1 record last week and what better way to do it than over the dominant Winterhawks. Portland led by there recently appointed captain Dieryck218 are looking to continue their dominance over everyone in the PHL and get this win. i predicting a blow-out for the Winterhawks

Wednesday, December 11th

Halifax Mooseheads vs Prince Albert Raiders
Both of these teams at this time are holding on to a 4th place spot, the Mooseheads are looking to get their first win over the Raiders. whereas the Raiders who will be led by ryno1354 look to continue their dominance over Halifax. I predict this game to be close like all the others that these 2 teams play, but in the end the Raiders will get a close and possibly overtime win.

Now that the turkey is all gobbled up. Let’s get the skates sharpened and get back on the ice!

AHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By:T-MAN-13-RHP

Sunday, December 1

POR VS WBS

First game back from the break and we have an interesting matchup here. Portland has made a few moves over the week off, and look to start a streak and get back in first. Portland is only 3 points back of the West leading Grand Rapid Griffins. On the other hand we have Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins who are sitting 7th with 44 points. Both teams in their last games have compiled a 5-1-4 record. In this game either Acrobatic_beast will win it for WBS or the Portland offense led by ChiTownMenace will make this game not close.

Monday, December 2

BING VS CHAR

Charlotte is coming in to this week with a division lead over San Antonio, and look to continue it. The Checkers are on a tear 9-1-0 in their last 10 and are looking to continue their success. Lemieux_Polamalu has his team rolling on all cylinders and looking to make it another successful week. Binghampton has been struggling for the most part over the season. Currently sitting 10 points out of a playoff spot. This is a game they need to show they can hang with and win against the big boys of the East. If BING can shut down the high powered Charlotte offense, they will win. If not, it could get ugly and fast.

Wednesday, December 4

NOR VS GRR

A battle of two top teams in the West. Norfolk comes into the week one point behind their division leaders in Portland. Norfolk is on the road and are an amazing 15-4-1 away from home. But then you scroll up to see that Grand Rapids is sitting at a 16-3-1 record on home ice. Intriguing to say the least. Grand Rapids had three players on the line one West team and six players voted in, in total. This game could go down to the wire, Norfolk will have to beat the sobo’s and Xx1DR_SWAGGER1xX, otherwise GRR will just cycle them to death.

POR VS CHI

Portland and Chicago have met twice this season, the first game being a 5-0 blowout and the second seeing Chicago win 5-3. Both teams had rather similar lines in both games. With Portland making a few deals the line may be different, but expect a similar game. Chicago has been skidding over the last few weeks but went 5-3 last week and look to continue their success. Does Portland just have to much firepower for Chicago? Or does Chicago really have Portland’s number now?

Thursday, December 5

PRO VS ROCH

Providence is the number one team in the Eastern Conference, they take on the sixth seed in Rochester. Rochester was once the number one team in the AHL, as they went on a tear early in the season but have cooled off as of late. Rochester is 2-6-2 in the last 10 games, while Providence is 8-1-1. Cody275 is tearing up the AHL with almost three points per game and tends to put the Bruins on his back. Expect similar in this game.

PHL GAMES OF THE WEEK
By:Sazer15

Sunday, December 1st

Prince Albert Raiders vs Edmonton Oil Kings

This is an big game for both of these teams, the Oil Kings need to win this game to prove their dominance over the Raiders and to stay in third place. But if the Raiders can come away with a win not only will it boost their confidence for the rest of the week it will also get them 2 point closer to taking over the 3rd place spot in the Western Conference.

Wednesday, December 04

London Knights vs Blainville-Boisbriand Armada

Both of these teams are dominating their respective conference. This should be as close as we can get to an all star game without having another all star game. This will be a hard fought matchup, I presume it will turn into a shootout. The winner will prove who the best team in the league really is. Could this be Championship Finals foreshadowing?

Player Of The Week-Week of Nov. 17th-21st

NHL POTW
By:Chrome_USAF

FORWARD:
KyleJ83 - In his first week after switching from Defense to Forward, Kyle put up 15-9-24 in 7 games while totaling 30 hits and adding a +13

DEFENSE:
Nino_Nemasis - Nino who was recently acquired in a trade from Dallas, put up  2-11-13 (1.86 per game) this week for the Oilers while adding in 26 hits and +14 in 7 games

GOALIE:
PNCPark2k1 - The All-Star put up another big week this past week going 5-0 with a 1.25 GAA & 88.6 Sv % and than added in 2 SO's against Chicago & Columbus for good measure

AHL POTW

By:Bigtizzle

FORWARD:
While DASN1PA takes the award in back to back weeks, he shares it this week with his teammate Rich2k8. Hard to seperate these two stat wise. Last week, Rich2k8 and DASN1PA each played 8 games averaging 3.88 points per. Rich's statline was 12-19-31, Snipa's, 15-16-31. Dasnipa had a slightly better shooting percentage, 39% to Rich's 29%. Teams better do their homework before taking on these titans next week.

DEFENSE:
Another close battle with the edge going to Dynasty1989. In 6 games played at RD, he had 9 assists, +5, 34 hits and only 1 penalty. Portland remains a top team in the AHL partially due to Dynasty's great defense.

GOALIE:
Finally getting recongnition for his fine goaltending all season, Acrobatic_beast. Record alone is not whats impressive (3-2) its the .899 Save percent and the 1.57 GAA. ACRO tacked on 2 shutouts vs Iowa and Lake Erie in the same night, stopping 29 shots total. He allowed just one goal in a win vs a top team in Charlotte. ACRO played great in the allstar game as well. giving up just 2 goals and getting the win for the East. Look for him to continue his success.

PHL POTW
By: xstcopleyx

FORWARD:
This week’s PHL forward of the week goes to the newly recruited x0xVictoriousx0x.  In his first 4 games of his career he averaged 4ppg in the form of 7 goals and 9 assists, against 3 of the toughest teams in the PHL.  If other players stay down with him and his 55% faceoff percentage, this could turn into a formable Halifax Offense.  Honorable mention goes to swiftdefeat with 22 points in only 6 games.

DEFENSE:
Dougie1218 scored 6 points in the form of 3 goals and 3 assists with an outstanding 75 shot percentage in only 2 games played.  This outstanding performance with his +/- of 3 earns him Defenseman of the week.

GOALIE:
With a 5-1 record this week, S_3TH-98 stood out as the best performing goalie.  His save percentage reaching .823 with a GAA of only 2.24 makes him this week’s best performer.  Let’s see if this can continue for him to help the London Nights take #1 in their conference.

Every week the VGHL’s news team will bring you a Power Rankings list with a small recap of the preview week’s games, as well as a preview into the next week’s games.

NHL Power Rankings – Week 4 (November 10th  2013 – November 14th  2013)

1 –Montreal (24-5-1)
Last Week – 1st
With Yan out of action with a RL injury, the Canadians picked up Malkin to help the offense after looking quite vulnerable while splitting the 6 games played since, Expect Malkin to be back on the block once Yan returns to the lineup
Next week: Chicago, Dallas, Winnipeg, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Florida, Carolina

2 – St. Louis (21-6-2)
Last Week – 2nd
The Blues were upset in a big way this week dropping games to NYI, Columbus & Florida and will need to rebound in a big way this week in what appears to be a tough schedule
Next Week: Detroit (Reschedule), Buffalo, Ottawa, Edmonton, Colorado, Minnesota, Los Angeles, Dallas, Phoenix

3 – Phoenix (21-6-3)
Last Week – 4th
After another big week, the Coyotes find themselves on top of the Western Conference leading StL by 1 point.
I absolutely expect the Calder Memorial Trophy winner to come from someone on this team as they have a 4 first time NHL’ers leading this team
Next Week: NYI, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Detroit, Colorado, Minnesota, Columbus, St. Louis

4 – New Jersey (21-7-2)
Last Week – 6th
The Devils currently boast a VGNHL leading 15-1-1 home record and find themselves holding the 2 seed in the East as we approach the All-Star Break, Mesmerize continues to stand on his head for Jersey after posting a 5-1 1.52 / 82.8 this week
Next Week: Edmonton, Calgary, Boston, Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida, Tampa Bay, Winnipeg

5 – Dallas (21-9-0)
Last Week – 5th
Another week of VGNHL, another week of Rally putting up redonkulus numbers, 6-2 1.43 / 88.8% including a 35 save performance in a 2-1 4OT victory over the Devils, the Stars also picked up Sticky in an effort to bolster the underperforming offense
Next Week: Boston, Montreal, Detroit, Chicago, Edmonton, Calgary, St. Louis, Columbus

6 – Carolina (20-10-0)
Last Week – 7th
The VGHL’s all-time leading Goal scorer Mudd_Flaps (342) put up another monster week with his 20-10-30 performance in 7 games, what will be interesting to see is if Mudd can continue to carry the offensive load now that Malkin is off to Montreal
Next Week: Detroit, Columbus, Pittsburgh, NYI, Boston, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Montreal

7 – Tampa Bay (19-8-3)
Last Week – 11th
Uh oh, The Bolts are starting to find some of that S7 magic again and currently ride a 6 games winning streak, they now sit on top of the South East Division, they now lead the league in Shots per game as well as fewest Shots Against per game
Next Week: Minnesota, Colorado, Buffalo, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Ottawa, New Jersey, Philadelphia

8 – Detroit (18-9-0)
Last Week – 3rd
Detroit has a major chance to pick up points in the West with an 11 game week ahead of them before the All-Star Break
Next Week: St. Louis (Reschedule) NYI (Reschedule) Chicago (Reschedule) Carolina, Winnipeg, Dallas, Phoenix, Anaheim, Colorado, Minnesota, Calgary

9 – Minnesota (19-9-2)
Last Week – 9th
All this team seems to do is win, they don’t have a dominating Offense, they don’t have a big “name” goalie, but they just find ways to win and in the end that’s all that really matters
Next Week: Tampa Bay, Florida, Anaheim, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Phoenix, Detroit, Chicago

10 – Colorado (17-10-3)
Last Week – 12th
The Av’s were 6-2 this week and now sit only 3 points behind the Wild for the lead in the North West Division after a big week from Nova (13-9-22)
Next Week: Winnipeg, Tampa Bay, Columbus, St. Louis, Phoenix, Detroit, Los Angeles, Anaheim

11 – Pittsburgh (17-10-3)
Last Week – 10th
The Penguins seem to like the number 2 as this week they alternated 2 wins/2 losses in a 8 game split.
Next Week: Anaheim, Phoenix, Carolina, Florida, Tampa Bay, Montreal, Boston, Ottawa

12 – Ottawa (17-11-2)
Last Week – 8th
The Sens had a surprising week, they split at 4-4 but lost to the NYI, Penguins & Ducks in what I thought appeared to be games they should have won, those 6 points could come back to haunt them later
Next Week: Columbus, St. Louis, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Florida, Tampa Bay, NYI, Pittsburgh

13 – Calgary (15-10-5)
Last Week – 15th
The Flames had a big week taking 6 of 8 games with the 2 losses coming in heartbreaking fashion against Colorado & Minnesota and are 13-4-3 since the Penguins - Ghost Chrome trade
Next Week: Florida, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Columbus, Dallas, Chicago, Detroit

14 – Philadelphia (15-11-4)
Last Week – 14th
So much for the Flyers offensive struggles, they put up 30 goals this week (3.75 per game) after averaging only 2 per game prior.
Next Week: Los Angeles, Anaheim, Ottawa, Boston, Montreal, Carolina, Winnipeg, Tampa Bay

15 – Florida (13-12-4)
Last Week – 13th
The Panthers are starting to remind me of the S7 Avalanche where they look like a playoff team on paper but can’t seem to come away with W’s, maybe a big win over the Blues to end the week will get them going as they have seen their hold on the 8th seed drop to a 3 point lead
Next Week: Winnipeg (Reschedule) Calgary, Minnesota, NYI, Pittsburgh, Ottawa, New Jersey, Montreal, Buffalo

16 – Edmonton (13-13-4)
Last Week – 16th
After starting the week with a 3 game winning streak, the Oilers turned around and dropped 5 of their last 6 games but still have a 4 point lead for the 8th seed in the West
Next Week: New Jersey, NYI, St. Louis, Columbus, Dallas, Chicago, Anaheim, Los Angeles

17 – New York Islanders (13-15-1)
Last Week – 19th
The Isle’s showed that sometimes making a change early can make a big difference and are now only 3 points out of the 8th seed in the East
Next Week: Detroit (Reschedule) Phoenix, Edmonton, Florida, Carolina, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Ottawa, Boston

18 – Columbus (12-16-2)
Last Week – 18th
The Blue Jackets snapped a 5 game losing streak and then put up big upsets in wins over Detroit & St. Louis, they might not be dead just yet
Next Week: Ottawa, Carolina, Colorado, Edmonton, Calgary, Anaheim, Phoenix, Dallas

19 – Los Angeles (10-16-4)
Last Week – 17th
The Kings are starting to fall behind in the race for the 8th seed as they have dropped 8 of their last 10 games, including 4 one goal games this week
Next Week: Philadelphia, Boston, Calgary, Minnesota, Chicago, St. Louis, Colorado, Edmonton

20 – Buffalo (10-16-4)
Last Week – 21st
The Sabres made some big moves this week acquiring Oshie & CulDeSacc, I have a feeling this team will be a major player in the trade market during the break in a search for a new G
Next Week: St. Louis, Chicago, Tampa Bay, Winnipeg, New Jersey, NYI, Carolina, Florida

21 – Anaheim (9-18-3)
Last Week – 20th
The Ducks lost their leading scorer when they released ToSlick to Free Agency which makes you wonder just what really is going on in Anaheim this season
Next Week: Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Calgary, Detroit, Columbus, Edmonton, Colorado

22 – Boston (5-22-3)
Last Week – 22nd
The secret to success against the Bruins appears to be to take penalties as they lead the league in SHG Against (12)
Next Week: Dallas, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Carolina, Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, NYI

23 – Chicago (3-20-6)
Last Week – 24th
The Blackhawks scored a team high 5 goals in a game this week thanks to a hatty from Castro maybe this could be a sign of life for the Hawks offense
Next Week: Detroit (Reschedule) Montreal, Buffalo, Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, Edmonton, Calgary, Minnesota

24 – Winnipeg [/b ](3-21-5)
Last Week – 23rd
The Jets have lost 13 straight games and made a head scratching move in acquiring imavan who gave up a VHNHL season high 12 goals to the Hurricanes this week in what is his 3rd 10+ Goals Allowed game of the season, on a good note however they were able to take the Stars to overtime as part of their 2 points gained in a very dismal week
Next Week: Florida (Reschedule), Colorado, Detroit, Montreal, Buffalo, NYI, Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey

NHL Games Of The Week
By:Jewofcanada

Sunday, November 17th, 2013

Montreal Canadiens at Dallas Stars (10:30PM)

Both the league-leading Montreal Canadiens and the “star-studded” Dallas Stars made waves this week as they each pulled off a blockbuster trade. The Stars exchanged defenseman Nino Nemisis for long time Edmonton Oiler stickygreendubs in an attempt to jumpstart their so-far underwhelming offense. Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens have elected to take a chance on the enigmatic Malkin, dealing CulDeSac to the Buffalo Sabres for the disgruntled forward. If nothing else, Malkin is a capable replacement while Yan heals up. Whether these new acquisitions play in Sunday’s match up is yet to be decided, but it will be interesting to see which direction these teams head in after making such bold moves.

Phoenix Coyotes at Detroit Red Wings (10:30PM)

The Phoenix Coyotes are quickly establishing themselves as one of the elite teams in the league, especially since acquiring star forward Stamkos a few weeks back. On Monday, they take on a reigning western powerhouse in Peerless’s Red Wings. It will be a struggle for the Red Wings to contain the high flying offense of the Coyotes, but if they get the right matchups and some solid goaltending, Detroit could make a statement with a victory over the West’s highest scoring team.

Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars (9:30PM)

The Edmonton Oilers will visit the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night in one of the more interesting games of the week. While the intrigue was always present in a matchup between two great teams, the aforementioned Nino-for-Sticky swap makes it all the more dramatic. Nino will have an immediate chance to make an impact against his former team in a familiar arena, while StickyGreenDubs may very well play his first game against Edmonton…ever? As far as we know, the schedule makers don’t have a crystal ball – but this match up could not have come at a more appropriate time.

Carolina Hurricanes @ Montreal Canadiens (10:30PM)

Once again, I would like to reference a trade we discussed earlier: The Montreal Canadiens acquiring star forward Malkin from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for CulDeSac. Some would consider that a unbalanced offer, but rumors have swirled that Malkin was unhappy after being dealt to the Sabres and refused to play there. Who traded him to Buffalo in the first place? The Carolina Hurricanes. After a pretty successful start to the season, the Hurricanes chose to go in a different direction and dealt Malkin and Oshie to the Sabres for Madmax94, GoodLuckGinger and a first round pick. Perhaps now we know why. If Malkin’s character issues become a problem in Montreal, altered_beasst will quickly rectify the problem, but if not, the Canadiens may have gotten a steal. He’ll have his first chance to stick it to his former team on Thursday.

AHL Games of the Week
By:T-MAN-13-RHP

Sunday, November 17th

Hamilton Bulldogs vs. Grand Rapid Griffins 10:30PM EST

Grand Rapids is now the number one team in the AHL, and are taking on a team who started out strong but has cooled off as of late in Hamilton. The Sobo brothers are just schooling everyone in defense and it reflects in their GAA. Hamilton is 4-5-1 in their last ten and there have not been any bright spots on their team. Expect a rough game for Hamilton as GRR should continue their dominance.

Monday November 18th

Portland Pirates vs. Chicago Wolves 9:30PM EST

In this matchup both teams have slipped as of late. Portland was the number one team in the AHL and now sits third in both the conference and AHL. Chicago has had its struggles as of late (4-6-0), they have the fire power but have troubled putting the puck in the back of the net. This week is crucial for the Wolves, if there is another disappointing week expect changes to be made. Portland won the last matchup 5-0, and expect much of the same.

San Antonio Rampage vs. Rochester Americans 10:30PM EST

The number one and number two teams in the Eastern Conference. These teams are separated by 2 points and this game should be an entertaining one. Both teams are very strong defensively, as well both teams have made some moves as of late to change their roster. The decisive part in this matchup, is Rochester is 3-6-1 in their last ten, while San Antonio is 6-2-2.

Wednesday November 20th

Portland Pirates vs. Lake Erie Monsters 10:30PM EST

Two of the top three teams in the Western Conference. These teams are separated by one point and a win could make them the best in the conference based on what GRR does. Similar offenses and similar defenses indicates it’ll be a close game. I expect Portland’s Moja to score a bunch, and see this game go to OT. Unfortunately Portland will falter in OT and Graham_Scott will lead his boys to victory.

Thursday November 21st

Oklahoma City Barons vs. Chicago Wolves 9:30PM EST

The first matchup between these two lived up to the hype. Virus and Jay and the rest of the Wolves offense still make them dangerous, even though the team has been spinning its tires as of late. Sinneront in the last meeting between these two teams scored 3 goals and is most important one with 00:09 seconds left in the game, he is still a lethal weapon at LW for OKC and continues to lead their offense. OKC has also found their #1 G and have been playing better as of late. Expect another close game.

PHL Games Of The Week

Monday November 18th, 2013

Blainville-Boisbriand Armada vs.Mississauga Steelheads 10:40pm EST

This match-up includes some of the best players in the PHL. With Desveaux_x_19 on an outrageous scoring streak averaging 3.83 ppg and having 46 points, the Steelheads should watch out for him. On the other hand the Steelheads led by SNIPESHOW_21 with 36 point will be looking to pull ahead quickly. This could be foreshadowing for the Eastern Conference Finals due to these teams being the 2 best in the league. I'm predicting a great game, but in the end the Armada will pull through to get this big win out.

Thursday November 21st, 2013

Edmonton Oil Kings vs. Rouyn-Noranda Huskies  9:40pm EST
This will be an interesting game on both sides of the ice. The Oil Kings are looking to take first place over in the Western Conference, where as the Huskies are looking to get on track and become a presence in the Eastern Conference. All in all, it will be a very intense game to watch. I think if the Huskies can shut down jor2good, they have a great chance to win.
